The blizzard came, turning the arena into a frozen skatepark and leaving a sheen of ice over the Revavroom's surface.

The Gym Leader nodded at the challenger's choice.

"Taking control of the terrain is never a bad idea." He said approvingly.

Yet, an electric charge surged around the motor pokemon's steel body as its engine roared to life, pistons pumping rapidly as its body began to heat up.

"But one can't control for the inherent variability in their opponents." He said. "Thus, when manipulating terrain, utilizing it to enhance your pokemon, rather than to impair the opponent's, is most consistently reliable."

It rose in the air, hovering just above the now icy ground before it launched forth, careening towards the Snorlax like a bullet.

"Oh?" The Gym Leader uttered, raising a brow. "Did you forget why you attempted to seize the terrain in the first place?"

As if on cue, a boom rang out from the living engine, pistons supercharging as its entire body rattled mid-charge, flying straight towards the Snorlax's hammer arm—

Suddenly it exploded forward and into a sharp turn, drifting around the incoming hammer arm while gyrating around the Snorlax, its body crashing along the rotund pokemon's side.

"Revavroom possesses excellent mobility, as well as the capacity for bursts of acceleration. It isn't too fast, all things considered— but the average Revavroom is still much, much faster than the average Snorlax." The gym leader said as the Revavroom spun around and grind to a halt, its engine roaring in a cadence akin to laughter as its tongue flopped out of its motor maw.

The gym leader folded his arms behind his back.

"Still— choosing a move because it is super effective is not a bad call." He said. "But if I may ask— did you plan for what came next?"

Did she have her next move planned? Should the hammer-arm land? Should it miss? Was she taking action with a plan, a tactic in mind, or was choosing the individual moves as if each alone would end the battle, or inevitably leave her in a better position than before?

Suddenly, the Revavroom brought its wheels crashing against the icy soil, the steel digging into dirt as they revolved faster and faster, its engine roaring and its pistons kicking into high gear as the muffler began to pump out CO²— No.

Toxic Gas...? No. Toxic Waste—

Almost too quickly, the gas gained both speed and mass, an exhaust of toxic garbage blasting towards the charging Snorlax, lathering it and its path into a thick layer of poisonous trash—

Before the Revavroom finally removed its proverbial foot off the breaks, zooming away from the incoming Snorlax.

"Leaning into your strengths is never a bad thing— but it must be done within the circumstances of battle, Ms. Coello." The Gym leader said.

Gwyar cupped his chin thoughtfully. At this rate, the challenger stood no chance— that wasn't a rarity in his gym, but it wouldn't be much of a gym if he just trashed them while teaching them nothing.

Hopefully, the challenger would pick up on hints.

"Revavroom's speed and mobility is most useful on flat, even terrain." He tapped the icy floors she had created earlier. "You were not wrong to try and take that away before— the method you chose, however, was iffy."

The Gym leader smiled.

Good— they weren't too proud to learn.

The earthquake tore through the battlefield— and though the levitating Revavroom was able of dodging damage, it was not able of stopping the upheaval of the earth as rock and soil tore, raising and to create a maze of uneven terrain.

A moment later, a horrid, screeching noise rose through the air, drowning out the roar of Revavroom's engine as it moved through the maze of rock and dirt, stopping and starting as it found its path blocked or impeded— yet, not quite out of the battle just yet.

"Well done." The gym leader said. "Now, you need to seize the opportunity you've created for yourself."

If she and Snorlax were able.

The noise from the revavroom kept getting louder, and louder—

But it wasn't... sharp. It was shrill.

It was booming. Heavy. Like a hammer of sound, smashing through you—

The very earth seemed crack and distend as the sound suddenly blasted outwards, shattering one of the floodlights shining down on the stadium!

The Gym Leader's ever present smile twitched at that, the corner of his lip turning upside down.

"Tch."

He hated breaking equipment...

It was an unfortunate match up. Not an insurmountable one, in Gwyar's opinion, but perhaps a bit much for anyone who wasn't fairly advanced as a trainer.

But while his gym was intended to guide along such rookies— it was not meant to be challenged by them.

One final roar of the engine boomed across the field as the sluggish arm came. At the last moment, the Revavroom had accelerated, past the arm's trajectory, and straight into the Snorlax, seeking to end it with one final crash.
