a chuckle quickly bubbles at the sight of someone so familiar; it's like he had only just seen them yesterday, less than twenty-four hours ago, though here in this bar, he supposes the circumstances are far different.[break][break]

boldened by alcohol, though it's not like he needed it to begin with, he slides into the spot next to her, announcing his presence with a question.[break][break]

"still chasing after a catch?"[break][break]

he raises his drink to sip.[break][break]

"you know, i'm starting to think you're following me. you could just ask me for my number, but where's the fun in that, right?"

She’s already a couple drinks in when he sidles up alongside her.
A slow smile spreads across a cherry-painted mouth. Toothy and saccharine, eyes crinkling at the corners as she recognizes him.[break][break]
“What a sight for sore eyes,” she answers instead.[break][break]
Absently, she pushes the thin straw around in her glass with the tip of her finger.[break][break]
“You found me, so I would say maybe it’s the other way around.” Her nose wrinkles. “You’re right, the chase is much more fun.”

Sid preens under the remark, rather than find some way to be annoyed about it. She could hem and haw about how there is more to her than her looks (there is, of course,) but she is also perfectly confident in using said looks in a favorable situation.[break][break]
She would, in fact, deem this such a case.[break][break]
“Alright then, keep up the pace, if ya think ya can.”[break][break]
Her grin is amused as she leans forward, an elbow leveraging her weight as it props against the bar. Blue eyes fix on him as she studies his face through her lashes.[break][break]
“Would you now?” Voice a curling tease. “Could think of a few ways to spend some time with you.” Sidney pauses, a snicker creeping loose, “No ghosts to startle you this time.”[break][break]
Another pause, this time to knock back a swig of her whisky. “Could try your hand at the styler again, though, if you’re feeling particularly bold.” Or some similar equivalent. Not that she thinks he could actually wrangle her if he tried.

“Sure it doesn’t.” She snorts out a laugh, then downs the rest of her drink.[break][break]
It burns on the way down, but her throat is already somewhat numbed by the first round. “Oh yeah? And what do you have in mind?”[break][break]
She watches him, expectantly so, only for another laugh to follow.[break][break]
“I hadn’t thought of that.” Well, not right then, anyway. It hadn’t been lost on her before. “Can’t say I know yours, either.”[break][break]
Her head tilts. “Suzume.” She stops short, blinking a few times as it sinks in that she’s handed him her real name. The one she hasn’t gone by at least since she left Johto.[break][break]
Must be the liquor. Well, she can roll with it, she supposes. As far as she’s aware, he’s not in Rocket, so it shouldn’t cause some sort of ripple effect.[break][break]
It can stay right there. Between them.

the tilt of his head along with the grin that follows is all that needs to be said to convey what both of them have in their minds.[break][break]

she confesses to him with "suzume" but all he hears is her name, no backstory or secrets that may accompany it. those may be revealed at another time but for now, her name is all he needs to exchange his in return.[break][break]

"lance," he says before turning fully to face her, the side of his body leaning against the bar. after a pause, his finger uncurls from the glass he holds to point at her.[break][break]

Normally, it might make her a bit antsy to have divulged her true, given name. But she doesn’t feel that way now. At least not yet. There is only their little back and forth game here, though, and that lulls her indo a sense of security. Hopefully, not a false one.[break][break]
She watches him grin until one of her own mirrors the expression. Lance. She lets the name roll around in her mind, lets herself get familiar with it.[break][break]
A laugh follows the guess. “Not quite.” Sidney tucks loose hair behind her ear, letting her glass rest on the bar top. “Johto, actually.”[break][break]
She parrots his confident guess right back at him– “And you? Sinnoh?”
