Though his injuries had long since healed, Nikita could not forget the injury to his shoulder. The last thing he saw before he blacked out was the desaturated totem of Alola. Its beak staring down at him between two bulky arms. But worse than that was the Rocket who’d been with him. To a master strategist like Nikita, a loss was difficult to swallow. It burned like bile and sulfur.

Failure was not something he could tolerate. Not again.

During his hospital stay, the detective spent hours retracing his steps. What could he have done differently in the battle? Now that he was more aware of the creature’s abilities what would he have done? As he uncovered its name, the man threw himself Then, he began to research the apparent avatar. The battlefields they had been seen at and associated injury reports.

Now, he was putting in work to prepare for their next encounter. Standing beside him was a small Nidoking with hulking arms. “I am relieved we could reach an agreement, Dorian.” On its deadly muzzle, a small pair of glasses rested. The poison-type turned from its book to face its associate. White claws plucked the pieces of glass off as he grunted—his book was A Clockwork Orange. A purple glow temporarily enveloped the poison-type’s horn as its eyes narrowed.

Bullshit. Those beady eyes seemed to say. Winters might be his soulmate, but Dorian knew his mind.

After his family’s death, Nikita abandoned the few Pokemon he had left. If not for a quick-thinking officer, Nikita likely would have left his grandson to rot as well. To him, this scholarly Nidoking was just another bad memory—his real starter. And, while he had enjoyed sitting at his godson’s bedside—he had felt it time to reunite with them.

Now, they wound their way through Mount Pyre in search of opponents to test their stratagems against.

And once again he ran away.

Romero was already visibly tired of having to put up with a cowardly Pokémon with him. It doesn't even look like that Maschiff was the puppy of one of the bravest Mabosstiff he's ever seen. He remembers that she was his master's faithful Pokémon. Although the master used to use the dog's sharp teeth as a threat and sometimes tortured his pupils, these were golden times. Romero was one of those who partially experienced that strong bite, he still carries the scar on his left forearm.

"Fuck. Where did he go this time?"

In the rustling of the bushes, the search for the cub continues impatiently. The priest curses that the previous opponent didn't even seem that strong, so why did the canine simply hesitate and run away? Since arriving, Maschiff has only chosen who he will fight, ignoring any sense of obedience towards his trainer. And the worst thing is that the little rascal has his tricks... his excellent skill with well-planned escapes wasn't enough, he can even scare away targets with a roar - PS: he THINKS he's scary, but I guarantee that his bark is very hoarse and funny.

When suddenly in the midst of search and exhaustion. A bark.

"Gotcha!" now he knew exactly where Maschiff was.

With some haste he crossed the bush that surrounded one of the roads on route 123. With his fists clenched, muttering as he removed all the grass from his dark clothes (quite modern, but symbolically clerical) he finally found his fugitive but he didn't seem to be alone.

"FUC--" he stopped as he noticed a Nidoking and his possible trainer that Maschiff was barking at. "...F--FOR GOD'S SAKE, BUDDY!!! Don't run away like that..."

Romero sighed in relief. Could he really relax? The person in front of him was a complete stranger, perhaps it was better to keep up appearances for now.

"I'm sorry about that. This little one is very hyperactive, you know." Then he held out his hand for a greeting. "Rum-hum. My name is Romero, Father Romero Vega. And you are...?"

As the puppy burst through the treeline, Nikita’s hand slipped to the waistband of his trousers. For a moment, yellow, too-thin fingers wrapped around the butt of the gun. After many years chasing down ne’er-do-wells, he did not often see intrusion as friendly. Dorian, meanwhile, seemed only slightly irritated. His muscular body tensed as he stared down the little dog.

Fortunately, Nikita stayed his hand. The pup does not strike him as particularly dangerous, merely loud. “Do be quiet,” Nikita murmured. “Tantrums do not work on me.” A large human soon followed. It did not take long for him to spot the signs of the cloth, along with the incongruities. A religious madman, lovely. Dark eyes flickered down to the dark type. While he normally might have quipped about having something of his, the famous detective did not get a chance.

After a brief pause, he returned the handshake. “Children often are.” It did not matter what species they were. The hesitation giving him enough time to observe the arm offered his way: the bite upon it, the color, the wear, and the muscles. A sigh pushed past his lips. With his name often came recognition and useless niceties.

“Nikita Sokolov.” There was an almost curious glint in his eyes. Movement from nearby caught his attention A Morelull had been spooked from its hiding place by the little dog. The detective ignored it, for now. Dorian, meanwhile, offered a nod of greeting to the large man.

“You are a long way from your congregation, father.”
