seldom casting her gaze over towards the water when a fisherman or their son manage to snag the next big catch of the day, petra sports her ranger's cap while patrolling the area. with a fully mature manectric at her side, she felt it unlikely that anything would approach with hostility to spare. not unless they suffered from the toxic affliction plaguing the region like some hot trend. who knew when that would end...

of course, the wild was never silent. and at the sound of distress, petra is forced to delve within the thick foliage in order to investigate properly. whatever it was, it certainly didn't sound good for the wildlife... or herself.

there was a saying that 'boys will be boys'. well, in this moment... it loosely applied.

the manectric at her side looks between it's trainer and the durant harassing the other native bug species with great discomfort. their gnashing pincers and the disgusting sound of their flapping wings going bzzz really made the hound uneasy. "yeah, i know boy... bugs will be bugs." she didn't much care for them either.

which was why this next decision was so easy for her to make! "light them up with your thunder." like two braincells in sync with one another, petra's manectric didn't hesitate to channel it's electric power, which plunged down from the sky in the form of lightning. because of the durant's metallic body, there was seemingly no chance it could miss, as the bolt practically 180'd right for the nasty little bugger with pinpoint accuracy.

this gave an opening for the bug types it was fighting with to escape, and even the two of them as well. "keep moving." there was more ground they had to cover, and plenty of time left before petra's shift was over.

steady is the pace that brings petra and her manectric full circle, arriving in time to find a pesky venonat interfering with the local fisherman. while she wasn't able to prevent the first victim from falling to it's sleep powder, they would certainly be the last.

demonstrating great zeal in it's pursuit of the little bug, the manectric's flaming maw clenched down onto the venonat's foot with sublte mercy. while it still had a foot to speak of, the poor creature was unable to run. even more unexpected than that, the creature fainted from the sheer fright of it's encounter. or perhaps the burn wounds were a little more severe than petra would've thought. it was hard to tell from this distance.

using a vial of smelling salts to wake the fisherman, petra apologizes before moving to the venonat. realizing her concern for the severity of it's wound was warranted, she assumes responsibility by offering a vacant pokeball to their unconscious friend. "...sorry for hurting you." the words do more to comfort petra than the pokemon itself.

at the very least, she can consider her 'work' here done for today. a prompt visit to the pokemon center was in order.
