the nature of grunt work requires him to always be available, so acclimating has proven difficult with how erratic his schedule has been. he could be needed in rustboro one day only to be moved to sootopolis the next. hoenn's transportation infrastructure is impressive, to say the least.[break][break]

but, finally, he finds time to look at apartments with his cousin. their third viewing so far is a small but cozy corner room on the sixth floor of mauville hills.[break][break]

despite DANE FAIRCHILD 's reservations about this place, annalise likes it. a corner apartment means more windows, more light, and a sizeable-yet-kinda-awkwardly-placed balcony overlooking the city center.[break][break]"yeah, it is," she says distractedly, scrutinizing the small details like her parents taught her to when she was looking for somewhere to live. at the mention of the decor, she looks around as though she's seeing it for the first time. DANE FAIRCHILD's confession doesn't strike annalise as unusual. maybe staying at home is par the course in johto, but most people she knows don't come home every night. two of her roommates are gone in stretches of time. even she is kept away from home when work demands it. his follow-up piques her interest. they don't talk about it much as he doesn't share unless asked, but the fairchilds were responsible for tending to the cemeteries in mahogany as well as the one at the lake of rage up north. for that reason, dane has always been comfortable around death.[break][break]

the mood may have taken a slight dip but there is still fun to be had. it will rise again after this needed conversation.[break][break]
