nuisance pokemon are a top complaint the rangers hear about. it's almost always a wild pokemon who got too close to a town in a bid for food. this task is no different than the one she did yesterday, the day before, the month before.[break][break]"wow," she breathes out as altaria circles to land some distance away from the gardens. "look at the size of that thing."

annalise approaches slowly, cautiously, feeling a thrill of anxiety as the walrein turns its head towards a berry bush and she catches the glimpse of long tusks. she hopes that it's friendly — her entrails and the farmlands would greatly prefer a peaceful conclusion to this. she stops out of goring reach and fishes a few berries out of her pocket. sticky-sweet juice runs purple, staining rivers through the crevices in her palm. well, shit. here goes nothing.

"hi, buddy," annalise coos in the sweetest voice anyone could probably muster. the walrein turns its head and regards her. "you want some berries?"

as she extends her hand out, the ice-type starts to heft itself her way. a year ago, she probably would have sprinted in the opposite direction if a tank made of thick blubber and tusks started rumbling towards her — but nowadays she has the lack of self-preservation or stupidity or mental fortitude to stand there and unfurl her fingers so the pokemon can get a better look at her offering. the walrein stops short of mowing her down, nares flaring and hissing out cold air as it takes an appraising sniff.

"pretty good, huh?" she asks as it begins to eat from her palm. it's cool, but in a scary sort of way. "much better than the stuff you'd get around here."[break][break]
the walrein must've been abandoned — otherwise it has walked far as fuck to get here from the ocean. annalise needs to get it out of here, one way or another. she grabs another handful of berries in one hand and a pokeball in the other. as it eats its second serving, she presses the ball against its hide and watches it disappear in a flash of light.

"come here, cotton. we're all set now." she clips the ball to her belt as the altaria floats over. with a scrunch of her nose and a disgusted sound in the back of her throat, she flicks the excess berry juice off with a snap of her wrist before mounting her bird.
