blaziken's heel connects with the flat of the samurott's blade. the fighting-type growls and pushes off its seamitar, feeling the RETALIATE cut up through its leg feathers as it goes. it lands at a distance, adrenaline thrumming through its veins as blood wells up in its wound. [break][break]"heh ... you got the first blow," aaron observes, arms folded against his chest. "but we're not done yet."[break][break]muscles tensed, blaziken explodes towards the samurott with a fist crackling with electricity. it feints left, then swings a hook with its right.[break][break]

aaron is none the wiser to Greyson Connors's laugh, nor the relationship between noah faber and kyle lopez. he nods somberly, remembering how upbeat and cool the gym leader had been in the chasm. it's hard to imagine him not like that.[break][break] aaron wonders if he should buy noah something — or maybe invite him to run rounds with him and CIAN MAHER to take his mind off everything. [break][break]"shit. i guess."[break][break]less than me is an obvious yet disappointing answer, but a less than me salary is higher paying than the donuts he's been making. [break][break]to his SPEEDBOOSTED blaziken, everything is slow. the shifted stance, the forward momentum, the glitter of the samurott's blade — all of it is almost frustratingly sluggish to the fighting-type. it BOUNCES over the samurott, coming back down with a drop kick.

a couple weeks ago, aaron had gone in for his elite four interview. at the time, he and Greyson Connors had agreed that kyle lopez is never giving up his top champion spot. aaron wears a stony expression as Greyson Connors decides he won't delay this because he doesn't know what this means. he hopes it's his approval for him to take on the elite four, but it could just as easily be his roommate laughing him out of the room. [break][break]clarity comes slowly and then all at once when greyson tells him plainly that he's endorsing him. aaron goes from sitting stiffly on the edge of his chair to jumping to his feet, sending his pikachu flying. [break][break]"LET'S GOOOOOO!" [break][break]like a broken dam, his boyish excitement pours into the elite four member's office. he cheers like he already won champion rank — until he remembers greyson is here.[break][break]"er ... " he clears his throat and holds his hands out. his well-dressed rat lands in his arms. there's an awkward beat of silence as he rearranges his expression to look cooler. "thanks for the endorsement, bro. i'm gonna head out now and return these clothes — only rented 'em for two hours." [break][break]he inches backwards towards the door, half-expecting the other man to rescind his endorsement. he reaches the door, opens it, and retreats until only his face is poking out. [break][break]"thanks again, bro," he says, cheeks pillowed between the door frame and the door itself. "seeya at home."[break][break]he pulls his face back and closes the door. more muffled cheers are heard from the hall.

"yeah. fuck it, go ahead."[break][break]aaron only goes as far as the doorway, repelled at the threshold by a leasing agreement. he tilts his head and watches him go through the elite four member's stuff, putting his hands on everything. a smirk slowly appears on his face as noel plants himself in a freshly-laundered bed, narrowly avoiding squashing the shaymin sleeping there.[break][break]"no problem, bud, you can sleep in here, yeah. i'll, uh, go clean up and you can chill."[break][break]he reaches for the door and shuts it, creating a surprise for his roommate once he comes home.
