Really, he could be doing anything else. He could be arranging his next meeting with the Fortree branch manager to discuss marketing opportunities. He could be perusing that boutique he'd noticed in Slateport, because he really could use a new pair of shoes, especially with that gala coming up. Hell, he could be determining who it would be amusing to fire, just to see if he could tweak productivity up just that much more. Fear was a good motivator.

A slight hubbub caused him to turn his attention from the verdant path, Lisette issuing an ATTACK ORDER as a swarm of small Combee accosted a gray Yamask that had simply been minding her own business. The Ghost-type fell with a cry, and out of an automatic reaction as much as sympathy, Colin tossed a Safari Ball toward the fallen creature, catching it neatly when it rebounded with its new cargo.

Still, he could perhaps fit one or two of those in after this trip. Coming back might 'delay' him, which would be perfectly reasonable to suppose.

He had to admit, as he rounded the path around a small, placid lake, that there might be worse ways to waste his time. Colin glanced over to Lisette, buzzing happily at the treeline, and smiled a little. His pokemon didn't often get time to really stretch their legs, so to speak, and he supposed that this was as good an opportunity as any. Certainly, he at least reaped some fringe benefits from it.

As though to underline his claim, a small Nickit darted out from the brush, dashing up his leg and scurring around his torso. He yelped, swatting at the fox, but managed to miss her completely as she darted back to the ground and began making a beeline for the trees. He peered after the thing in consternation, then did a double-take: the thing had his wristwatch.

"Lisette!" he snarled, pointing at the fleeing Nickit. "Get my watch!"

With a droning buzz, the Vespiquen dove gracefully through the air, surging downward to land, hovering just above the ground, in the path of the vulpine with her prize. As Lisette's wings grew in volume, she unleashed an AIR SLASH that sent the fox tumbling head over foot. Colin strode easily over and crouched to retrieve his watch, examining it for any scratches or scuffs.

There - a series of small scratches where the Nickit's teeth had pockmarked the metal. Sighing in frustration, he threw the expensive watch over his shoulder and listened with little remorse to the bloop as it landed in the lake. He'd have to get a new one, now, and how tiresome would that be?

Almost as an afterthought, he threw an empty pokeball - perhaps a little harder than necessary - at the fallen Nickit before straightening his lapels and continuing on. Surely this trip couldn't get much worse.

Colin's progress down the path was arrested by a rustling thatch of tall grass just off the walkway. He paused, tensing, recalling what had happened to his watch the last time he'd let his guard down. The threat soon emerged from the underbrush, presenting itself as something that...well, might look like a Pikachu, if he squinted, but seemed a little altogether too haphazard for that.

The little creature toddled out and turned to face him, leaning back. Colin found himself staring at the little pokemon, enraptured by its BABY-DOLL EYES. "That's adorable," he murmured.

Then it whacked him with the stick that formed its tail, a painful WOOD HAMMER directly on his shin.

Swearing profusely, he hopped backward on one foot, perilously keeping his balance, and without having to be directed, Lisette and her swarm of tiny Combee delivered an ATTACK ORDER that stung the little not-Pikachu all over, sending it huddling for safety on the ground.

Smoothing out his trouser leg over his shin, Colin eyed the little beast cautiously. "I like you," he pronounced. "You're like me, I think. You'll do." He tossed his last Safari Ball, capturing the menace in a spray of red light and nodding in satisfaction.
