Appearance: For someone who doesn’t like standing out he does. If it isn’t his height it’s his eyes or hair color. It doesn’t help matters that he’s quite attractive so he’s been known to draw the attention of people who wants to ask him out. His hair is white and is long enough to touch the nape of his neck. Match that with eyes that are different colors with his left eye being yellow and his right eye being blue he’s bound to stand out.
[break][break]
His sense of style consist of long-sleeved t-shirts, that are a few sizes to big, over jeans. He will never wear shorts and always wears long sleeves no matter the weather. When it comes to shoes he sticks mostly sneakers but will wear boots on occasion. The only accessories he might wear is his reading glasses or a pair sunglasses. Other than that he isn’t an accessory kind of person. The fact he wears long sleeves even in summer is another thing that tends to draw attention to him.
[break][break]
His sense of style stems from the fact he has a multitude of scars over his body. Most are along his torso and back but he does have a few along his arms and legs that he doesn’t wish anyone to see.[break]
Height: 5’10”[break]
Weight: 130 lbs[break]
Complexion: Fair

Personality:
[break]
Beck can basically be described in three words: sweet, gentle, and shy. Due to these traits, he is very soft-spoken and tries not to draw attention to himself. It is these traits that also make him a very forgiving person. Despite the hardships he has faced, he holds no ill will for anyone, seeing life as too short to hold a grudge. There's also the fact that he believes in second chances and always tries to see the good in everyone, believing that no one is inherently evil. Instead, they are more likely to question why someone ended up the way they did and help the people who have gone down a dark path.
[break][break]
While being gentle and kind is good, it also has its drawbacks. For instance, he refuses to stand up for himself. Part of it is his general dislike for confrontation, and the other part is the fact that he doesn't like to make people angry. He would rather fade away in the background and avoid conflict if he can, really just not liking violence.
[break][break]
Being shy, gentle, and sweet aren't the only traits that make him though. He's also extremely loyal to those he considers his friends, more than willing to drop everything to be there for a friend. He's the type to put others' needs before his own. His loyalty also extends to his actions and what he says. Basically, if he promises to do something, he'll do it. He hates breaking promises.
[break][break]
One of his worse traits is his forgetfulness. He’ll never forget to go to work but will often forget to take care of himself. Often forgetting to eat after getting caught up doing something. But he’ll never forget to tend to his Pokémon’s needs. It drives his friend crazy how he can forget some of his most basic needs but will have fed his Pokémon. His friend often has to remind him to eat.

History:
[break]
TW: mentions of child slavery and torture
[break][break]
Life isn't fair.
[break][break]
He knows that. Knows that better than most.
[break][break]
His life starts out like most people's and yet not at the same time. Like most, he was born to two loving parents who cherished him. Unlike most, he wasn't born with the gender he currently identifies as. That's right, Beckett was born a girl under the name Rebecca Carlson.
[break][break]
His parents thought his aversion to dresses was just a phase.
[break][break]
Then again, wasn't the same thing said about his father's gambling problem?
[break][break]
A problem he acquired during his college days.
[break][break]
Turns out, when you're not good at gambling, it's hard to have any money. And when you don't pay those you owe, well, they're bound to be angry.
[break][break]
When Beck was six years old, his parents, not having the life they needed, would have to make the hardest decision any parents have ever had to make. Give their son up to a known slave owner or forfeit their lives.
[break][break]
They were afraid. They didn't want to die, so they chose the former. It's interesting what fear will do to a person.
[break][break]
At six years old, he found himself owned by a man named Val. He wasn't expected to do much. Being quite young, the most he was expected to do was help the servants with the kitchen work and help with the shopping. And as long as he did as he was told, there wouldn't be any problems.
[break][break]
However, despite that, he longed for freedom. He was sure he could slip away in the night, never to be seen again.
[break][break]
However, Val always had eyes on him. His business associates always watched him when he couldn't. Even at night, there were guards. Not to mention, he was always looked into his rooms at night.
[break][break]
He took to watching them whenever he could. Trying to memorize any pattern in the way things were done.
[break][break]
Finally, when he was ten, his chance came. Someone forgot to lock his room, and he took the opportunity to try and escape.
[break][break]
Unfortunately, it ended in failure.
[break][break]
As punishment, he was whipped. Val carried around a whip, mostly for show, but when a servant or worker stepped out of line, he would use it to discipline them. Afterward, he would be locked back in his room and given even less food than usual, which, considering they didn't receive much to begin with, was barely enough to sustain him.
[break][break]
Typically, anyone employed under Val would only receive enough food and water to prevent them from collapsing, but nothing more. It was clear that Val was a very paranoid person who believed that if those who worked for him were well-fed, they would run away.
[break][break]
Despite the punishment he had received, Beck wasn't ready to give up. He decided that he would try again.
[break][break]
It wouldn't be until he was fifteen that he would make another attempt. And just like the last time, he didn't get very far before being caught and brought back to Val. And, as before, he didn't try to fight back. Deep down, Beck was a gentle person and couldn't bring himself to harm someone, so the moment he was caught, he allowed himself to be taken back to Val without putting up a struggle.
[break][break]
Val wasn't as forgiving this time and instead of his usual form of punishment, he used a knife to torture Beck for a while before deeming him sufficiently punished.
[break][break]
After that, Val tried a different approach. He attempted to strike a deal with Beck, knowing that Beck didn't identify as a girl and never had. Val offered to provide the surgeries Beck needed if he would stop trying to run away.
[break][break]
It was a tempting offer, and in the end, Beck agreed.
[break][break]
Around that time, he would meet someone who would ultimately save him from Val.
[break][break]
He met this person while on a shopping trip for Val. The person's interest in talking to him almost made him late in returning to Val.
[break][break]
Unbeknownst to Beck, the other boy followed him one day. He followed Beck back to Val's mansion, where he witnessed the true nature of Val.
[break][break]
The other tried to get him to run, but he refused. After all, he had promised he wouldn't try to run anymore. And what kind of man would he be if he broke a promise?
[break][break]
Realizing Beck wouldn't leave, his friend decided to try another tactic. If he wouldn't leave on his own, he would just have to force him to run away with him, even if it meant abducting him from a known slave owner.
[break][break]
It would be a little after that that rocket would invade and his friend would use that to his advantage. His friend figured out the ins and outs of Val's security and decided to put his plan in motion. Surprisingly enough, his friend would succeed where he failed and get him out of Val's clutches.
[break][break]
After that, they would lay low, but knew they couldn’t stay in Kanto. Realizing they couldn't risk getting noticed by Rocket or Val, they would sneak onto a ship and leave. It was hard to get Beck to leave since he was worried about the other people that made Kanto their home, but eventually his friend would be able to get him to come with him.
[break][break]
Upon leaving Kanto, they settled for a bit in Hoenn, only for it to seem like Team Rocket and Val chased them there. It was clear Val had joined up with Team Rocket, probably in the hopes of finding Beck.
[break][break]
Realizing this, his friend would make him stay home while he went out to make sure neither Rocket nor Val were close to finding out where they were residing. It was the forced house arrest by his friend that would spark his interest in writing. In the house he shared with his friend, there wasn't much else to do but read, and it would be with his love of reading that he would decide he wanted to be an author.
[break][break]
For a while, they lived in fear of Val finding him.
[break][break]
But Val never did.
[break][break]
Not even after Val had joined the new Team Rocket after the old one had disbanded. Instead, it would only be a bit after the resurgence of Team Rocket that Val would meet his end. It is suspected that his former master somehow got injured enough to die during the takeover of Sootopolis.
[break][break]
With him gone, he and his friend could breathe easier.
[break][break]
Except, he wasn't happy.
[break][break]
Val might not have been the nicest, but he hadn't wanted him to die. He didn't like the idea of anyone dying, even if he knows in the end it's inevitable.
[break][break]
A few years have passed since then, and he has gotten better. He's become a fairly well-known author and has even picked up work as a sanctuary worker. Life may not be great, but he's living life the best way he can.
[break][break]
Well, he would be if he could just work up the courage to tell his friend how he really feels about him.
