Large trees stretched up into the sky, ripe fruits dangling from branches and glimmering with dew.

"Bryan!" Howard raised a hand from the lawn chair and umbrella unceremoniously placed in the middle of a vast orchard. His hands were tinted with dirt, his fingernails were caked in dirt and sand from gardenwork. "Long time no see!"

Next to the admin was an ice chest filled with beer and an empty chair. Howard gestured towards it with gusto.

"Sit! Sit!" Howard laughed as he wiggled his bottle of beer in his hand. "I've needed your expertise for a few days! Couldn't reach you for some reason."

His eye danced around Bryan, as if looking for something.

"Where's Xerneas, man?" Howard raised an eyebrow. "Wanted some advice for growing Pinap berries."

He knew how to entice bryan into arriving, a beer in hand was all bryan needed to see to continue to remain loyal to helping his cause. "Pinap berries?" he says as Bryan sighs and plops into his chair. He couldn't tell if the sweat on his brow was because of his lack of energy flowing through his body or the heat that permeated this place. [break][break]

he drinks the beer, too fast and he coughs for a moment forgetting that his body didn't metabolize it as quickly as it used to. He collects himself and wipes his mouth with his shirt and the back of his hand as he tries to compose himself. "Take the pinap berry and plant the crown of it an inch from the soil." [break][break]

He places the beer into it's cup holder as the conversation shifts towards Xerneas. A pit forms in his stomach, he chooses silence instead of answering. Focusing on the condensation forming on the glass.

"That's how you do it? Huh." Howard frowned as he tucked his head to his chest. "The book I bought said leave half of the body exposed..."

Given that he had bought it from the checkout aisle where he had met with Laurence Whateley, that should've been expected. Luckily he had Bryan here to make up for the slack. The idea of a Rocket Beast being a gardener was one that Howard struggled with. How could someone capable of nurturing such life be so capable of ending it?

Blood enriched the soil, he supposed.

"I thought the berries were just dead, and Xerneas would need to revitalize them." Howard quaffed his beer. "Glad I'm just a fool. Idiocy can be rectified. Death cannot."

He was silent for a spell, before watching Bryan peer at the grass as water condensed on its blades.

"Bryan?" Howard frowned as the beast became unresponsive. "What's up?"

However as Howard presses him on the subject he tries to remain stalwart. "Nothing. I didn't say anything." he replies but with the tone of the voice he slung back at howard it was obvious he was lying. [break][break]

His anxiety manifests as a slight finger twitch before he stands up and starts to work immediately on rectifying things he sees wrong. [break][break]

He stands up suddenly and plunges his hands into the ground as he starts to dig a pit in the ground. "We can plant more here. Land is fertile"

Man. Bryan was a terrible liar. Howard wondered if that was just who Bryan was, or if it was a transitionary process from the man he had once been. Hadn't he mentioned a time where it had been easier to punch things than to scheme?

Beating things up was likely far more black and white than thinking. Whenever Howard thought about the circumstances in Rocket, his thoughts led him down dark paths. Sometimes, it was best to simply keep one's head down and do the assigned tasks. That was how Rocket functioned.

Cogs in the machine.

"Land is nice. It's thanks to you, you know." Trees rustled in the wind and grass crunched beneath their feet. "Me and oscar clayton might've set this up, the logistics and all that... but you did this. You and Xerneas."

Xerneas.

The admin stopped in his tracks.

"No?" He asked with a raised eyebrow. "Elaborate."

The admin didn't seem as confused as he should've been. Instead, it was more akin to a teacher waiting for a student to explain their process, how the path they chose resulted in the answer they put forth.

A destination without a path was a meaningless one. A path without a destination was a tree allowed to grow without discrimination. The former was a senseless march, the latter was the bane of any gardener. A plant needed light to grow, but where was Bryan going to get it from now?

"Where's Xerneas, Bryan?"

It would have been better if the flower known as Bryan delarosa had been killed and removed from Rocket's garden before he began to wilt. It would have been a more dignified end to the life bringer than this pitiful existence now that plagued this garden. [break][break]

Bryan's flower should have been plucked when it had begun to wilt, but its excision had been delayed. There was still more for Bryan Delarosa to do. Namely, secure victory for the group that had promised him a home.

Glory to Rocket.

"Oh." Howard's voice became as dry as the desert that surrounded this verdant utopia. "So that's what that tree was..."

The admin's gaze had been turned west towards the small town of Dewford and the colossal dragon that coiled underneath. He had been deaf and blind to Bryan's silent war with his patron, and Rocket suffered for it. The admin groaned and wandered towards his lawn chair.

"Sit. That's an order." He took a gamble on the idea that Bryan respected the hierarchy of the organization that saved him over his own tumulus emotions. "Drink."

He was quiet for a spell.

Howard gave Bryan a look, as if appraising the man. He looked him over once, before frowning.

"Nah," he returned to his drink. "You'd kick my ass."

It didn't get much more complex than that. Howard suspected that if he railed into Bryan, the Rocket Beast would thrash him. Even if he didn't, souring his relations with the man didn't seem particularly wise. Half of high command already hated Howard, there was no need to add another to the pile.

"Eternal life is pretty nice. I could sit around and write about everything that happened in a great book. Forget studying history, I'd be living it." A lighter flicked as the admin lit a cigarette and put it in his mouth. His eye watched smoke curl into the air. "You fucked up. Nobody will let you forget it. I certainly won't."

It was his job after all. The lighter disappeared into a pocket.

"Look on the bright side. I assume you can actually get drunk now, right?" The admin raised his glass and smiled. "Cheers."

He frowns. One because howard had a point, well he had multiple. [break][break]

People would never let him forget how he fumbled such an amazing thing, but the more important thing he reminded bryan of. [break][break]

He could get drunk again, for longer. But he couldn't drink enough to forget everything. "It isn't that simple Howard. That type of ability changes people, it changed me into someone I didn't and still don't recognize." he says as he reaches for Howard's cigarette to share.

His rank was the greatest shield within the organization. It was the only thing stopping the Rocket Beast and his colleagues from ripping the admin apart like an insect infesting one of the plants in his beloved garden.

It was frustrating to be so helpless—to rely on the umbrella of an organization he despised—while being incapable of changing his own fate. Still, there was little to be done about the quandary.

"Maybe so. Maybe you changed when you were blessed with power. A lot of great people do. Promising princes become wretched kings, slovenly wastrels rise to their rank, and so on." Howard shared the cigarette with Bryan before looking up at the sky. "Hell, I've changed a bit. Not like you. I was no avatar, but I did change."

Howard looked up at the sweltering sun above, filtering through the branches.

"That's life. That's growth. You changed with Xerneas, but you can also change without it." Howard shrugged as he leaned back in his seat. "Isn't that so, Lifebringer?"

"That title doesn't belong to me anymore. Xerneas made that blatantly clear." [break][break]

However there was a problem with howard's perspective, Bryan didn't agree with it. "The problem is I didn't see the issue with it. We're TERRORIST howard. My job is to literally kill people, prove I'm stronger, an enforcer." [break][break]

That's what was so confusing to him, Xerneas used to be enamored with Bryan and then he was no longer. Calling him an addicted, how was that fair when that creature had enabled the drugs that lead to his downfall? "He gave me those powers and then called me an addict. That's not fair, how else am I supposed to use them?"
