Once they've both left the room, it shimmers with the pink fey energy of a FAIRY LOCK; a little extra protection against would-be intruders.[break][break]

"On the contrary, I take the well-being of this organization quite seriously, Dr. Wright." He's no longer smiling, but it remains in his voice. "I set aside a decent chunk of time for this interview, and I wouldn't see it go to any waste. Follow me!"

"And might I ask how is it taking care of the organization when you're making and old man pushing his 50's into such training, unless of course this is just a simple pokemon battle evaluation surely? [Break][break]

A way to show you where I am at that at least," or rather where he wasn't as he knew their skills couldn't be compared in any capacity. Anything to avoid a fist fight with the crazy underboss.

And while he's never had cause to fight declan walsh, he knows the Rocket Boss could hold his own. He's heard of his exploits in Kanto. Age was no excuse for weakness.[break][break]

"Should you train your Pokemon to protect you, your physical condition should be of no issue. Did you think I was going to challenge you to a fist fight?" He laughs as though the idea were ridiculous. "I prefer an opponent who can fight back, thank you."[break][break]

They reach the training room, and Cillian pivots.[break][break]

"Send out your best."

"Yeah? Well respectfully, there is a reason why he's Hoenn's Rocket Boss, while I'm just science nerd," Yuan counters back, respectfully of course because the conditions, "As he's a brick, and I'm a noodle." There was no way he could keep up with the likes of declan walsh. [break][break]

Though there is a bit of a relief to him when he mentions that this was indeed a pokemon battle. The scientist huffing out said relief, "And here I was expecting you making this a reason to punch me again," he comments with slight humor as they arrive at the training room. [break][break]

Wright pauses as he tries to overthink things he could bring out his strongest sure but then he'd be expected to improve upon it. Though if he sends out something weak and claims it as his strongest, the next time the Underboss tries to test him and he puts out the stronger mon then.... Then hello fake improvement. "Hmmmmm okay then I think..... this guy," with that he calls out his Golurk.[break][break]

The automation pokemon looking slightly taller with it's rock clearly very sturdy. Wright's talents in being able to pick out the best out of certain pokemon, and when he picked this guy out he knew it was the bulky take almost any hit defender. Though unlike his actual strongest he hadn't paid to have it trained just yet. Hopefully there was no way for the underboss to know this just yet of course.

If Wright had dedicated hours in the training room as Cillian had, he'd sport the same corded muscle and strength of physique. The underboss had been a scientist, too.[break][break]

A soft scoff of laughter escapes him at the quip.[break][break]

"No. I'm hoping you learned your lesson."[break][break]

Wright sends out a Golurk, which Cillian sizes up under a critical eye. It seemed sturdy enough, but looks could be deceiving. As deceiving as the relatively innocuous Breloom Cillian sends out.[break][break]

It sucks TOXIC drool into its mouth, its spongy body shimmering as POISON HEAL takes effect.[break][break]

"We'll allow you the first move."

"Well EXCUUUUSE MEEEE," he leaves out the 'princess' part because Wright is 98% sure of two things. One Cillian has no sense of humor, and two the other the man hasn't touched a video game in his life and feels the other wouldn't appreciate his joke. "That my sponsor in Kanto allowed me to just stay in the lab and contribute there, not every lab rat did both," from his experience at least it was because they weren't deemed good enough to waste their time training them. [break][break]

Yuan watched the pokemon that got sent out and already picked up as something being wrong. Why would the POISON HEAL ability activate if it had not been poisoned? "This one of your Shadowmon?" he can't help but question as Golurk does nothing seeming to wait for any kind of order. Wright just making a shoo motion, "Just do the thing," because that's specific. [break][break]

Though the Golurk has been with the doctor long enough to know that it basically meant 'do what you want' in which it raises a fist and sends it flying at the other with SHADOW PUNCH.

Tone alone is enough to rankle Cillian, but he maintains his composure in the face of Wright's belligerence.

His tone has cooled from its earlier amusement, suggesting a shift in his mood. He was not entirely devoid of humour, but clearly it was not a sense they shared.

Psellia had in fact used TOXIC on herself, CORROSION ensuring it would poison despite her tertiary Poison-typing.

"Naturally."

SHADOW PUNCH impacts ACID ARMOUR, dampening the blow. POISON HEAL restores a portion of the damage that had been done, leaving her in near-peak condition.

"Not by choice I bet, but if it were up to you you'd have been within the labs and get to work on not only what Rocket wanted but a little of your own side projects right?" Wright questions curious of the other, but he has seen plenty of different kinds players in the labs, but very rare who could hold their own without having been taken out to train for the fields. [break][break]

Though he rolls his eyes when the other confirms his suspicions. "Now how is this suppose to be fair? I barely have a mon that can handle others and you're expecting me to roll up against you with a shadow one!?" the underboss was a cheat. Though its not like Yuan expected to win even if the other had been using a regular pokemon, but he at least would feel there would be more of a chance. [break][break]

Golurk doesn't expect a another order this time around. So it decides to continue it's offensives as it goes in closer and tries to use HEAVY SLAM on the other as its it'll see if it couldn't use it's heavier weight against the shadow pokemon.

His smile is thin. "Not by choice, no."[break][break]

Rocket did not offer choice. They gave orders and consequences to orders that were not followed. Cillian had learned the hard way that compliance was the only way forward.[break][break]

But when Wright nudges him toward his way of thinking, the underboss shakes his head.[break][break]

"If I performed well enough, I could do as I pleased with the free time they afforded me. How do you think I studied for my PhD?" It was a rhetorical question, and he gives no space for an answer. "I will offer you that same grace. But you have to earn it."[break][break]

Which he would not do with his incessant whining.[break][break]

"Who said anything about fair? Do you think war will be fair? Do you think the League will give you any space to breathe on the battlefield?"[break][break]

READING the MIND of her opponent, Psellia dances gracefully out of the HEAVY SLAM'S path. She was ordinarily a more offensive combatant, but Cillian's hand signals have instructed her to play defensive. For now.

"Same grace?" he questions as if the other man were crazy, "I already got the doctorate thank you very much, don't need the spare time for that," he clearly by passes the point, whether intentionally or perhaps just to play dumb for the other. "So what just earn it by this whole 'training saga' of yours or is there more to it than just that?" he decides to question as he feels he should get it as clear as possible if he at all wanted to find any loopholes around it. [break][break]

"Of course I don't expect that, I'm not stupid, however a straight up battle like this isn't my forte," he is more that accidental ally that things just seem to keep going wrong around. Like that time when he fought with the kid Deedee and the league was being a problem with the Melmetal they were trying to study. [break][break]

Seemingly frustrated that the shadow pokemon kept evading them this time Golurk goes for the NIGHT SHADE as it was up so close to the other to try and finally give it pain.

Cillian scowls at Wright, unimpressed. Either he was playing stupid or he was stupid. Neither option was appealing. So he turns it on Wright with a cutting smile.[break][break]

"Well, if you don't need the spare time, then I'm sure I can find more work for you."[break][break]

There's distinct irony in Wright defending his intelligence in the next moment, though Cillian doesn't bother to point it out.[break][break]

"You'll earn it by doing as you're told. Like any of us."[break][break]

NIGHT SHADE strikes the Breloom, but POISON HEAL mitigates some of the damage done. She takes advantage of the golem's proximity to spit a TOXIC ooze toward it.

Wright just gives an exasperated sigh as he deal with the Underboss. Clearly there was no clicking with the man, not as he was and while he could technically adjust himself he already knew it wasn't going to be enough. So fine let the underboss hate him just enough to let him stay, he could follow a few silly rules. [break][break]

"Fine fine," he gives in because he is sure that is what the other is looking for, obedience. Though he could be wrong as reading people wasn't as easy as reading pokemon for him. Sure he was fine with them so long as he could find some common ground to click with but at this point Cillian might be a lost cause in that. He examines the battle before him and it clear the shit show it was going to be. [break][break]

"No offense but must this continue? Golurk isn't causing enough damage that the POISON HEAL isn't creeping up on, and now with it becoming poison itself the victor in this is clear," he comments if nothing else showing a small hint that he is understaning of these mechanics, his clear problem was the knowledge itself doesn't seem to apply in battle for him.

Wright throws in the towel quicker than even Cillian expects.[break][break]

"Would you put up a similarly pathetic display for the League?" Cillian shakes his head, disappointed. "Clearly you understand battling mechanics. Switch out, send out something that Psellia will have more trouble against. Put up a fight, for Arceus' sake."[break][break]

He clicks his tongue, and Psellia boosts her defenses with ACID ARMOUR as the POISON HEAL continues to mend her wounds.

Wright just clenches a fist and bites a knuckle. Wishing he could say something against the other and their backward way of thinking. This was a battle between 'comrades' not some death battle. "Forgive me you asked for my strongest and you got it, clearly I'm in the wrong for thinking this was meant to be a one on one and not just me throwing tools at you until something stuck," he mock apologies. Well it wasn't his strongest but it was convincing enough to be so when he would fight with his actual strongest later with the underboss it would seem like he has improved. [break][break]

"But fine sine you want me to switch it up," he grumbles as he recalls his Golurk before calling out another, the Runiclus taking the field. Looking about confused as this was not the labs it was used to helping in, looking to Wright for guideness, "This thing keeps healing itself and being a pain, fix it," he simply orders, the multiplying pokemon doing as told as it uses HEAL BLOCK. Let the damn thing poisoning itself become a problem than a benifit.
