she is a master of one. aeris and sypha's affinities for their respective elements - electric and ice - are second to their draconic typing. she doesn't realize her mistake quickly enough, confusion knitting her brows as the thundering attacks are sucked over to the marowak's side of the field. 

melody's taunts make her gaze harden and she rips free aeris' ball from her side. 

"alright," she murmurs as her fingers go to the ball at the center of her choker. the static field under raging bolt's feet peters out as another snap of draconic leaves freya's mouth; the pokemon spurs to action, head down, another ancient power aimed towards the marowak.

DRAGON'S FURY

SALAMENCE Z-MOVE

salamence empowers itself to its maximum potential. primal fury overtakes it as it razes the battlefield and opponents before it, eliminating all terrain effects.

"wiivai," she snarls as she lets the hand-painted ball fly. the z-crystal sputters to life in her braids as he emerges in a burst of light, muscles shuddering as strength pours through every inch of his body. a shockwave expels from him as all four paws hit the ground. the aurora veil is obliterated and the rest of the misty terrain burns with draconic fire.

let's show her how we held off two legendaries and their avatars.

an earthquake shakes the entire arena.

the fragments fall and her hair slips over her shoulder, a lock tickles her cheek. the arena shudders and sparks shower, skittering over the pool under one of her waterfalls. raging bolt throws its tantrum, thrashing as it keeps on with an intense rage, emboldened by the strength of the dragon beside it. 

this is what she is made for. a hunger snaps through her, fingers curling, sharpening to points in her mind's eye, connection to her salamence humming by the fire in her veins.

from above, melody falters.

raging bolt snaps one of the dark bones from the air, snarling as it splinters in its fangs. blood drips down its furred throat. 

lyune is hit head on by the sparkling aria, but after surviving an alolan deity's light of ruin bearing down on him, he merely flinches through the pain. faerie fire licks at his scales, crawling into his flesh, and he bellows as he comes upon the primarina without mercy, the full brunt of his fly made with talons bigger than freya's fist.

the only song in freya's ears is that of her blood in her ears, adrenal glands squeezing adrenaline, the incessant tap-tapping of her fingertips against her sides. the human of battle, of draconic snarls, the might of her people's language crawling over her tongue and guiding the slashing and gnashing of her beasts. 

primarina goes down and lyune stretches his wings to full, spitting flames in his victory, and freya's grin is catlike. pride and joy swells through her. 

a sprite-like creature, one freya doesn't know all too well, enters the battlefield, spinning out from a shard at melody's side. ah. the legendary. lyune stares down at the new opponent; wind blows back attendees in the stands as he wheels around the arena. 

though a herald of lightning, the flare blitz finds no purchase to burn on the dragon's thick mane of fur. it groans in pain, gangly neck twisting down as bright purple light gathers in its maw, a dragon pulse spraying at the creature that struck it.

freya tries to wrack her brain. 

this one isn't a fae. 

"lyune, draushum quaaltak." green fire snicks down lyune's sides and his scales shine like emeralds as he's engulfed, but as he turns to surge towards the meloetta, he is blasted sideways by a visage of his make, a draconic roar of equal force that snuffs the flame before he can even near the creature.

patience, she had said to alexander, is something i am still quite bad at. fire roars through her, loud and primal; all of the tera stones adorning lyune's scales glow at once and his scales shimmer. stars spin out over his hide and though she yearns to call for violence, clarity smothers the fire. 

a blanket of air, a hum of a higher being. 

lyune's wings snap in front of him and a hexagonal barrier rises before him. the hyper voice shudders around him at all sides and he snarls, the slit in his eyes narrowing as stars and diamonds radiate off him in waves. 

her raging bolt is not as lucky. the hex and the noise battering it brings it to its knees. freya has its ball out before its head can hit the ground. 

she reaches for aeris ball again, but her hand falters. lyune's minute shield fades and freya runs her tongue along her teeth. we can do this. 

he brought her this far. 

the dust swirls where her raging bolt had fallen and through it, lyune barrels through, claws outstretched and tipped with draconic fire to take out the marowak.

another one falls. embers spark as lyune's claws continue across the ground. he fans his wings and they fill like sails, lifting him back up, claws grasping at the air. his chest heaves with exertion, eye trained on the meloetta, not understanding why with every move to strike, freya snaps him back off. 

until finally he can stand it no longer. he is finally at home in his body, made whole and healed, and this is his own testament of will. 

fire snicks, green shimmering over the glassy, cosmic sheen of his hide. freya snarls a warning that twists, catching fire alongside him, urging him onward to deal another devastating blow. 

melody looks at her in a frenzy; the battle meets its fever pitch and though freya cannot hear the music, she can see it in melody's warped face, in the unraveling of this mystery of a pokemon in front of them. it transforms. 

a soundwave races towards them, but lyune meets the creature with fangs bared, unflinching to the bitter end.

lyune's tail whips, a cosmic glint in the aftermath. freya squints and then with a powerful fwip of lyune's wings, the dragon clears the dust cloud surrounding them. he exhales smoke and ash, legs shaking as he struggles to stay standing with pride. 

the stellar energy fades as freya's heart slows and his tongue forks out of his maw. 

melody's crowd goes absolutely wild at the impressive display and freya flinches, looking from the downed creature and to the disheveled trainer at the other end of the room. she withdraws lyune and crosses the pitch, bypassing the pokemon on the ground, to offer her hand to melody.

"we did it, mel. you did it."

freya's still breathing hard. flyaway hairs stick to her forehead from her sweat. what a damn first match it was for melody.
