"Yeaup. 4 of 'em— the weather's actually pretty close to Hoenn. Bit hotter, I think?" That was, of course, if one didn't count Hoenn's bouts of supernatural weather. "Ha, yeah. Yeah..."

The fact one could find alolan variants in Hoenn, and in abundance, just about told them everything they needed to know of how messed up the local ecosystem had become.

He snapped to attention next, pointing at her.

"So you admit it!" He accused, his words not at all helped by his smug smile, his finger staying pointed at her for a moment longer before he began to slowly lean closer, poking her cheek.

"Hmm? Just for a bit." He said simply, flicking at her plump cheek before turning his gaze to the sky, thoughtful. "I did a couple of Pro battles over there back in 2022."

His success at the HsT had helped him gather a large number of willing sponsors at the time.

"Didn't really get to explore much; just in and outta their new stadiums." He said, smiling. "The league system had only arrived recently to the islands, so the people were still pretty excited about watching professional battles on their own soil."

Daikenki's paws hit sand beneath the now shallow waves, and he chuffed gaining Yuina's attention as she listened to Doug regale his time in Alola. She swung her leg over and slid off from Daikenki's back, feet splashing into the shallow waters beneath them as she started up onto the island. They might hang around for a little bit, let Daikenki and Kira take some more time in the waves before heading out to the next.[break]
She needed to get in some cardio too after all, that was the main point of coming out for the group of them.[break][break]
Yuina hummed though, a smile as Doug spoke about how new a league system was to the Alola region for a time, glancing to him after a moment.[break]
"Hmm, doctor, lieutenant colonel, battle professional, avatar, is there anything you can't do," she mused, and while her tone was coy, with a wry smile, she was genuine in her words. Doug had a lot of merits going for himself, and he deserved to be reminded of how extraordinary he was.

The normal person would blush and try to deflect such praise.

Doug puffed his chest and raised his nose in the air like a child, stumbling off his Golisopod's back to follow after his lady.

"No." He answered bluntly and smugly, holding the position for a full 10 seconds of silence before deflating with a chuckle.

"Awright, alright, I'll be honest. I'm cheating a lil' there." He said simply, winking her way. "Three o' those are just 'bout being good Pokemon battling. The other... well, I had 20 years of time... and no internet."

No distractions, and no excuses.

He reached over to gently elbow her sides, leaning his shoulder against hers.

"Meanwhile, I happen to know of an amnesiac historian that's already gettin' her very own exhibit in a big museum." He dew his arm around Yuina's shoulders, pulling her for a half hug.

"She's great. You should meet her." He said. "Let me know whenever ya wanna arrange for it, I've got a mirror."

True to form, he showboated all the way onto the shore and well after he left the Golisopod's back. Maybe she was feeding into his ego a bit, she could compensate him for his premature loss earlier.[break]
"Cheating? How could you," she laughed a bit, but she did lean into his shoulder as he drew nearer.[break][break]
"You should give yourself some credit. None of that came easy to you I'm sure," she returned, genuine again, refuting his attempt to contest the merit of his efforts.[break][break]
He went on for a spell about someone he knew, and as he pulled her in with an arm around her shoulders, Yuina blinked down with a soft smile.[break]
"An amnesiac who likes history? What a contradiction. She sounds like a handful," Yuina offered, half joking, she knew she was... And as if in the brief hold of that train of thought, bringing thoughts of her recent revelations to the forefront of her consciousness, Yuina felt something shift around her. The feeling was already recognizeable, she had become intimately familiar with it over the consistent course of a week.[break][break]
Daikenki barked in the near distance behind them, and Yuina turned within Doug's frame to find the small green sprite flitting through the air now above the shallow waves. She knew it was there, in the back of her mind, watching... She just wasn't quite used to its presence still.

His gaze was drawn away by Daikenki's barking, his body half turning towards the sound as he lightly cocked his head, giving their newly joined sprite a lazy look.

"Well, he looks like he's having fun." He mused, arms moving to his pockets. "Have you two chatted recently?"

Looking out to the small sprite that trilled in delight at being out over the ocean waves, Yuina leaned a bit more into Doug's shoulder at his musing question.[break]
"You know just about as much as I do," she sighed.[break][break]
Celebi flitted through the air just above the water, his small hands splashing in the water a bit before skirting out further over the water. A school of Luvdisc swam just beneath the surface, and the sprite followed along in their swimming, taking in the surroundings and enjoying being out in the abundant sunlight.[break][break]
He was having fun, Yuina could see the joy on the little prince's face, but she didn't mirror it...[break]
"Not really, no... I half expected him to be gone already, to go back to the forest...," Yuina murmered quietly, eyes cast out to the distance where the sprite splashed in the water. She didn't wish ill will against him... She knew what it did to help them on that ship, and maybe for a time she might have thought it would stick around to rest and heal, but then he should have been on his way, right?[break][break]
"I'm not sure why he's still here... He already did his job as a messenger," she spoke.... So maybe she still had some resentment towards the Celebi...

He turned and kissed the crown of her head as she leaned on his shoulder, snickering. "So we both agree she's great, yeah?"

Unfortunately, the topic of Celebi brought out punished Yuina, as it often did— his girlfriend's moods could switch on a dime depending on which topic he tripped over.

He decided not to flick her this time— this one was on him. He leaned his head against hers, watching over Celebi together.

"Maybe he wasn't a messenger." He offered simply, reaching down to grab and squeeze her hand.

The alternative to such was obvious; though he couldn't fault her for avoiding the conclusion. Not everyone desired power, nor wanted to be involved with legendary pokemon.

Still—

"Maybe he's interested in ya."

Exceptional people attracted exceptional pokemon, and Yuina was exceptional by any estimation.

Intertwining her fingers with his, Yuina continued to look out to the sprite that splashed in the water, twirling about in the air before flitting around Kira and Daikenki. He seemed so harmless... If she hadn't known any better he was just another Pokemon... But he wasn't, and that concerned her too.[break][break]
"Why? Because I'm a time traveler too," Yuina returned, using Doug's own terminology for what he had called her once, when she regaled what she found of herself within a time space distortion.[break]
That didn't make the weight any less impacting, stuck between a past she still couldn't remember and a future she never asked for. It was interested in her, sure, but why? And how was she supposed to harbor a legendary Pokemon when she expended so much effort in trying to hide from everything else? Including herself... She didn't want another target on her back...[break][break]
"I don't know what to do Doug... shouldn't I be afraid of keeping him close? Wouldn't that just put another target on my back from anyone who saw him? There were so many people on that ship, so many rockets... I'm already hiding from so much," she breathed, seeking his advice. Was he afraid in the beginning, being so closely tied to lele? Does he have to worry about being targeted by anyone else who sought her power?

He shrugged his shoulder, linking his digits with hers and smiling. "Maybe. Maybe he just liked your style."

It probably had something to do with her relationship to time, but that alone wasn't a reason to stick around. Cait Alfric had no experiences with time travel prior becoming the full avatar of Celebi (that he knew).

Whatever caught Celebi's interest about Yuina, it wasn't just because of her mishap with time.

But... her worries were very valid, and very concerning. He had grown used to being a target by now— desensitized. He was rarely ever a priority for anyone.

But Yuina was already in the ninja's sights. Would she be in Rocket's as well?

His hand squeezed hers, brows furrowing thoughtfully.

He stopped walking, before pulling her close for a hug.

"I can't tell ya what to do or how to feel." Anymore than he already tended to try, really. "But I'll protect you from whoever, whenever, wherever. No matter what."

That was the only thing he could do. No one, not a triad, not a witch, not a rocket, would touch lay a hand on her if he could help it.

He pressed his lips to her forehead gently, lingering there for a moment.

Surely there was a reason, something more profound than happenstance or convenience... She wasn't the only one there, out of many others that were present on the ship... Many more capable, and more stable than she was. It was one thing to consider that she did have a 'connection to time', but it was likely that in one way or another she wasn't the only one with everything that was taking place. Out of everyone that it could have encountered, and the many more that it could have sought out, why her...?[break][break]
But just the question alone was daunting. Why? Why, like everything else in her life? And she knew she was likely never to find out... the forces beyond her weren't good at giving her any answers.[break][break]
Standing within Doug's embrace, arms around his torso and hands clutching behind his shoulders, Yuina drew in a heavy breath, taking in his words... The soft kiss...[break]
He shouldn't have to protect her, not when he expended so much of his effort, so much of his very being in protecting everyone. He did it without question, selflessly... And Yuina knew that was why he would keep her safe, with everything that he had. She just hoped that when she couldn't tell him to let her go if something happened, that he wouldn't get hurt.[break][break]
"Doctor, lieutenant colonel, battle professional, avatar... And wonderful boyfriend," Yuina offered after a quiet moment, looking up at him. The darkness was hard to keep away most times, but with him.... the darkness didn't stick around for too long.[break]
"You really can do it all," she smiled, leaning in and up for a soft kiss, more thankful for him than he could ever know, more than she ever deserved.[break][break]
"So, I should try to make friends with him...? I guess the vision, my future... Isn't exactly his fault," Yuina wondered after, looking out to the Celebi that trilled in delight and flitted above the ocean waves. If he was going to stay, she couldn't very well spend that time disgruntled every time he emerged...

He paused, giving an exaggerated, suspicious squint as he raised a brow her way.

"... Are you coming on to me?" He said jokingly, before humming as she pressed her lips to his, his arms growing more firm around her waist.

As they broke off, their attention returning to the little pixie, he grinned her way.

"We can at least try, yeah?"

He wasn't sure if he would call himself and Tapu Lele friends, but Yuina and Celebi were starting from a much more equal position than an matron and avatar duo.

"Why don't ya try gettin' to know him now?" He suggested, leaning his head atop hers as they looked out at the pixie fleeting over the waves. "He's havin' fun— we came to have fun. Maybe we should follow his lead."

Truly Yuina felt that she could stay in that moment forever. It was a beautiful day out, the ocean was calming, warm sand on her feet, Doug's arms around her waist... If ever she felt lucky about something in this life, fortunate even, this was well up the list.[break][break]
"We can try, yeah... If I didn't know any better he would be just another little pokemon... I've fought off wild alpha Pokemon before, I shouldn't be afraid of him," Yuina tried to reason, rationalize, mostly just for herself. It seemed silly in hindsight that she would rather face the red eyed Luxray that stalked and hunted her for hours until she could finally escape rather than deal with the sprite that beamed in delight at a flock of wingull gliding by.[break][break]
"What? You didn't have fun on your swim earlier? I thought we were already having fun," she snickered. She certainly had fun on the trip out to the island.

Then, he unceremoniously picked her up and raised her over his head before sprinting towards the water, leaping inside with a loud splash.

He burst out of the water a moment later, smirking the moment he saw her.

"Now we're both having fun."

Ever so amused by her own quips, Yuina giggled at her slight against him. His pursed lips, his terse tone, she was getting pretty good at this, she thought, and it was such fun. Until she was made to reap the consequences of her words. There was no hope for being able to remedy the situation, she was already there within his embrace, it was all too easy for Doug to pick her up off of the ground.[break][break]
"DOUG!!" she shrieked, the surprise and the shock took over as he sprinted towards the water in the near distance. The hold he had on her was nigh inescapable even as she pushed against him, but even if she had been able to do anything, it was far too late as they both ended up in the water with a hefty splash.[break][break]
The cool ocean water was a stark contrast to how warm and sunny she had been walking along the sand of the beach, Yuina gasped as soon as she was able to surface, clutching her arms around herself at the sudden cold, hair dripping around her shoulders.[break]
And there he was, that insufferable smirk, the absolute gall of how pleased he was...[break][break]
Yet she couldn't hide the smile on her lips, how much fun she was having, she truly was her own worst enemy.[break][break]
"You're an absolute menace, you know that? That was entirely uncalled for," she feigned victim, teasing, she had done nothing wrong, what was a few words at his expense? She reached up to draw her hair back and around one shoulder to start wringing it out, smiling all the while.
