Today felt like a nightmare.

From annalise henderson "borrowing" the cute top she was going to wear to spilling her water bottle while running to catch the bus, everything was going the worse way possible. And now, after barely arriving 14 minutes before the agreed time, she'd found herself sitting alone, at her favorite cafe, for every regular to point and laugh at.

Realization didn't settle in at first. Rory had just figured he was running late - the guy seemed like the busy type, always jumping onto the next big venture. It was why they clicked so fast. He reminded her of her first crush from High school, just older and blonder.

But then he didn't respond to her texts, and when she looked at her clock she realized it'd already been 30 minutes.

'It's okay, Rory, he's just...running late,' she told herself. It was an easy lie to persuade another 10 minutes worth of strength. 'And...his phone probably died.'

It was only enough to keep her seated, though. Her eyes were another story entirely; lost to the emotion that made her heart wane, they glistened ever-so-softly. Because, deep down, she knew he wasn't showing. She just couldn't do anything about it yet.

The voice was as familiar as a shudder. Cold, distant. A figure teetering off the edge of stranger-status, upheld by some estranged connection linking them together.

It was hard enough to keep herself together, much less do so in front of her brother's old friend. Still, she made effort. She maintained her smile and greeted Greyson warmly, "H-hey!"
