02 fall victim to a massive carnivine, weepinbell, or victreebel.

31 discover that kartana can speak and repeat random fragments of a english (common) phrase albeit in reverse. the phrase is as follows: "ONCE AGAIN, I HAVE CUT A WORTHLESS OBJECT"

33 allow a celesteela or kartana that you own to guide you safely through the realm, or have them encounter previous members of their kind that believe it to have betrayed them.

34 encounter a CELESTIAL STORM of emerald steel, metal, and bamboo in ultra crater's realm or on the moon. these storms raze the terrain and tear apart anything caught within it. however, should you get to the storm's core, one can find a GRASSIUM Z-CRYSTAL that becomes permanently defunct once the storm ends.

"okay, this time we are definitely more prepared," he insisted, definitely not just to calm his nerves. but he had a digital recorder with him and word that a huge environmental storm was kicking up, and he wanted to learn about it.[break][break]

he looked to sasky to see a sharp-edged little guy on her shoulder. "um," he said quietly, "don't freak out but there's a kartana right on your shoulder." what if it tried to cut her neck? it seemed docile, but perhaps it was waiting for the right time to strike. he saw how easily they had cut at her last time, and he had no interest in witnessing it again.[break][break]

she does not worry about the kartana on her neck because it is her kartana. it's just a wittle baby and besides, taking it out of the rifts seemed to make it way less crazy than it normally is. its speech is garbled and shrieking and oleg is already in love with it. the two have started workshopping new tracks for their debut album.

which is how she learned that playing the sound on repeat makes it speak in common tongue. crazy!

saskia plays the voice recording again. and again. and again. the kartana keeps on with its backwards gibberish until sasky shoos it off her shoulder and asks it very nicely to lead them through its once-home.

"i think it kinda likes being back, but i hope it doesn't get all crazy again. they're kinda nice, when you get used to 'em. like with most pokemon. but don't worry about it. hims a good boy now."

haoyu, frankly, wasn't so convinced about the good boy status of the kartana.[break][break]

he chose not to voice his doubts. "well, it's nice to have someone so familiar with the realm to guide us. who knows the land better than one of its inhabitants?" he'd used nature guides frequently in alola.[break][break]

of course, then a vine tore through the earth and wrapped around haoyu's ankle as it continued forward. he found himself up about two stories high, having grown towards the sun alongside the large carnivine. vertigo threatened haoyu as his blood rushed to his head. he groaned as a pokeball fell from his loop and released his cramorant, who squawked in utter surprise at the sight of him upside and then looked to saskia as if saying 'are you seeing this' - all without rushing into action to protect his trainer.[break][break]

honestly, smart move, haoyu. the kartana on saskia's shoulder may be a good boy now, but there's no telling what horrible intentions he might have in store for the happy-go-lucky girl and her sidekick.

it, at the very least, decides not to warn them of the carnivine vines snaking along the ground, content to crane its little origami head and watch him get pulled up, up, up into the sky.

saskia panics and pinches one of its arms, exclaiming, "cut him down this instant! oh, mr tso, what the heck?" his cramorant is decidedly useless, which, same, but kartana springs into action, leaping to cut the branch holding him aloft.

"wait, wait, WAIT!" she shouts uselessly as the last bit of vine snaps. she fumbles with her pokeballs. oleg rolls out of one, looks up, and outstretches a hand in alarm, beeping like a siren. psychic energy surrounds their falling companion and his falling turns to a slow and gentle floating to the ground.

cramorant preys on his downfall, really, but he does lock-in for combat, he's a superstar. of course, this isn't one of those moments, so he's eternally grateful for saskia's partner oleg.[break][break]

he sighs with relief on the ground, though the carnivine is filled with fury at the kartana's assault. haoyu scrambles to his feet and groups up with saskia again as a storm kicks up around the carnivine. "can he do that?"[break][break]

cramorant squawks indignantly and flusters. he steps back unhurriedly, though, and catches a straw bamboo chunk to the head for it. "get distance!" he cries out. cramorant thrashes, which does nothing against the natural disaster. the storm summons his absol to action, who uses detect to determine the carnivine is inside with some sort of crystal. her worried cry is all haoyu needs to translate: "we're in trouble."[break][break]

saskia doesn't need anyone to tell her they're in trouble, but when are they not in trouble while they're in the crater? now that haoyu is safely on the ground, oleg can focus elsewhere, and with her kartana at their side, they should be damn near unstoppable.

saskia raises a hand, eyes watering at the force of the winds, and searches the storm. oleg looks too while hopping from foot to foot. the wind, unfortunately, seems a bit too strong for kartana and the little guy tucks itself into the fold of her ranger jacket.

"do you see it?" she calls over the wind to oleg. he beeps and she gives a thumbs up. "good. now get in there and show 'em what we're made of!"

one moment oleg is there, the next he's not. lights flicker within the storm and then, all of a sudden, a spiral-like rainbow blasts out from the eye of the storm. the psybeam rattles the carnivine from the base of its roots, all the way to the top of its head, and it stops, stunned.

a bright green emerald rolls out from it and saskia dives to grab it.

"gotcha!"

"good oleg!" he asserts. "assist, crammy," he requests more sternly. the cramorant launches a hurricane at the torn-up carnivine, though the aggressive move is not what haoyu had in mind. "don't hit oleg," he hissed.[break][break]

he needed better pokemon. all the lessons with josh devlin wouldn't save him if his pokemon were rattata-brained fools. "sorry," he offered to saskia as he straightened himself out. "what's that that you found?"[break][break]

oleg is blasted by the hurricane too and his little body goes tumbling over itself, but cramorant and haoyu are in the clear. he assumes it comes from the carnivine. it does make him fire off another frustrated psybeam at the creature, pummeling it into submission with cramorant's help.

saskia holds up the glowing green crystal with a big grin on her face, but the energy wanes as soon as she does. all the debris swirling around them crashes to the ground and the carnivine, sensing its advantage gone, slinks away back into the undergrowth.

"aw, i thought maybe i got it in time. these things are all over, but they always turn gray after a bit."

haoyu stepped closer to inspect the crystal. it indeed looked powerless.[break][break]

"maybe next time," he said optimistically. "i saw a celsteela just land in the crater in the distance. i think its the same baby celsteela we saw the first time we were here. might be friendly enough to let us take a ride." he returned cramorant to his pokeball, not trusting the silly bird to handle a celsteela with grace. "after, i definitely owe you and oleg a rewardo f some sorts. i've learned a lot from the environment here." he wasn't sure how to even begin his report on the area.[break][break]
