kasper had survived the trip down without much of an issue, somehow, but this was a whooole other thing. it takes one look at whatever they’re facing for them to wince and turn away just as quickly. It’s pulsing like a heart or something, and beyond that the area around it seems to twist and distort in a way that makes it painful to look at. awful.

The only reason that Tempest came down here so much was because he was lucky enough to have a Sygna Suit. Speaking of, he flexed his hand and the suit hissed to life. The core of it glowed faintly for a moment before dimming to a steady hum.[break][break]

"We're inside a monster. I'll take the brunt of the effects since I can block it out better. Just focus on digging."[break][break]

It's an order, but friendlier than most. Tempest gives a toothy smile as he calls out Compass and Skipper. The Firagarif stands guard around her trainer while the Lucario shuffles over to help kasper thaler work.

"you've got a point." it doesn't mean it's any less disappointing, though. internet clout forgotten for now (because they don't want to deal with getting a new phone), they nod and focus on digging. they're...pretty sure temp can handle it. they doubt he'd be so confident about it- or that he would have apparently come down here so much- if he weren't.

on the other hand, they're not sure if they can handle the anxiety that keeps getting stronger the longer they stay there. it's just a reminder that they're new to this whole thing, and it isn't exactly fun. they make a little disgusted noise at the pulsing walls, and then that's it.

like the pokemon had caught their voice (maybe they had?), a mutated poipole eases closer, unsteadily and awkwardly. kasper looks up, barely long enough to spot it- and reaches for their hatterene. they're not sure if the poipole can- or even wants to- fight, but having something that can protect them is the first thing they think of.

Even with the Sygna Suit blazing full protection, the feelings of this place start to wear down on Tempest. He frowns, feeling the unease creep into his mind and deep into his bones. He tries to shake it off but is unable to answer kasper thaler properly because of it.[break][break]

Sweat starts beading on his forehead. The pulsing of this place makes him feel dizzy and nauseous.[break][break]

He doesn't see the Poipole, but thankfully Kasper does. It gives his Lucario time to touch with healing paws to help ease the feelings.[break][break]

the fact that tempest- someone who has been down here more- seems just as impacted as kasper doesn't do much to help their nerves. by the time the core expels enough energy to make them more nervous, they're trying to hold onto the last shreds of their willpower and not make a break for it.

which means, in turn, that they don't really look up and don't really acknowledge temp. if they can get this job done, then it's fine. they don't have to come back down here for a while, they're sure-

something moves, and kasper looks up, despite themself. their mind fills in the blanks- an anomaly of a creature, worse than the poipole, moving like some horrible creator had shoddily put it together. they start to speak up, to ask temp if this whole thing was normal, but it comes out as a nervous sort of laugh.

good job, rocket. you fucked up a perfectly normal nineteen year old. you gave them (worse) anxiety.

"you don't have to tell me twice." it's punctuated with another nervous laugh, and they start to gather what they've managed to get.

it's so tempting to leave some of it behind and just make a break for it, but kasper forces themself to stay- just for a second longer- and make sure they have everything. just so they don't mess up by charging out of this hell-space before they should.
