Long has she suspected the DRK Triad of tampering with the RKS Machine: perhaps even having something to do with this most recent evolution of its capabilities. The data that can be gathered from virtual simulations seems to be a key component of their machinations...which only increases Nomi's sense of urgency. She must cut off the Triad's access to their world.[break][break]
"Investigate the area and report back to me what you find. Alert me immediately if Holo or any of her colleagues appear."[break][break]
Kallistatus hovers above the machine, and though it is silent, it seems to be taunting it somehow - challenging its former masters to face them.[break][break]

When he sees parker jones, Alba instinctively massages the back of his head, as the ghost of the S.P.E.C.T.R.A. Gauntlet haunts him again. It turned out that making your Pokémon let out an ungodly loud screech, then immediately tripping over and eating shit on a rock, was an incredibly efficient way of giving yourself a migraine sent up from the depths of hell.[break][break]

That migraine is long gone, of course, but the weather (what a weak word that was to describe this) caused by super-ancient gods wasn’t any better. The heat haze meets rolling clouds, feeding off each other until the humidity makes the air feel more like water.[break][break]

If he thinks about it a little too much, it reminds him of the suffocating feeling of being imprisoned in the Penitentiary. So he doesn’t.[break][break]

“You good to go?” The grunt just tries to power on instead, the sweat making him look like some kind of bedraggled animal.

war is coming. not pog. preparations for war are happening. not pog. preparations for war in a simulated universe where no one really dies and she can't fuck shit up are happening. very pog.

it had taken about five times of Naomi Sato patiently explaining what the hell this whole thing is and she still doesn't really understand it, but it's not like she's ever understood the rks machine to begin with. except that it's the thing that made the unown go all bananas and juice up nomi.

and also how one of the drk triad consequently found her blue-haired belle (pink at the time, though, she remembers) and tried to 'eradicate her from this timeline' or something.

she sees alba and she grins, saying, "no hard feelings, yeah?" with a laugh. and then when asked if she's good to go, she checks her belt. only amulius' ball sits, nice and shiny. her skin is hot. she jogs in place, feels her muscles squeeze, thinks, damn, this ain't that vr shit, and then nods.

"'kay, let's go. guess we can start at the base of the mountain? ask around for lil' miss bitch 'n see what else we oughta do?"

(Alba absolutely wasn’t going to push Parker down a mountain, as funny as it might have been, because her girlfriend was his boss, was the commander of reality-altering alien letters, and was the one controlling the incredibly lifelike simulation they were exploring that very second.)[break][break]

“Let’s keep away from Lilycove, though. They’ve got their walls, but I’d rather not be nearby if they decide to crumble.” Given the turbulent chaos the region was falling into, it wouldn’t surprise him if the sea coming to crash against the city had been superheated by the desolate sun. Or some other horrible way to make a flash flood even worse than it already was.[break][break]

“Hey, do you think you could we could drag jayden cross in here? Or just a copy or something, anything to cool—” And that’s when Alba suddenly trips starts to topple like a cypress tree.

"i'm graceful as a gogoat," she promises. she went on a mountain hike kinda like this once with another rocket grunt, Marza Volchitsa , and as far as she remembers, their little mission went swimmingly. they slaughtered a few bouncing pigs and then went their separate ways.

amulius had enjoyed his time that day.

"'kay, we avoid lilycove. 'mul probably don't wanna go near all that water anyway. wanna keep it spicy by the mountain."

both of them don't seem the best strategists, though, because their casual trek down the mountainside keeps them in plain site. amulius points and chirps and parker stutters to a stop, blinking, reaching out to grab alba by his shirt to yank him down.

"oop, watch out." a blast of fire sails past them, exploding against the ground. parker looks backward and then bounces on the balls of her feet. "let's go fuck 'em up. we can't die, right? it's all vr shit. that's what nomes said. let's FUCKING GO!"

and she takes off running, amulius at her side.

“Be nice if we actually had a Gogoat…” Or something like the horse Hideo Kino had used to gallop across Galar. Instead, they were stuck trudging across the apocalypse on their own two aching feet.[break][break]

Though perhaps it’s a blessing in disguise that they weren’t trotting around like cowboys (...goatboys? Wait Parker wasnt a boy— ), from the way their poor mounts would have burst into flames from that attack they’d barely dodged. Or, well, the attack that Parker had dragged Alba out of.[break][break]

“I mean probably not? But it’s still gonna suck.” And this whole thing was an unknown; maybe they would die, maybe they’d respawn but too late to fix the impending doom…[break][break]

“To your left!” Alba calls out to Parker, his Musharna’s Forewarn pinging off a Rock Throw sailing towards the pair of them. Across the way is someone and their Magcargo, wearing the kind of get-up you’d expect from someone thoughtlessly trying to alter the world’s ecosystem.

hey, amulius is way better than some laundry-eating goat. he's a laundry-eating chicken. but okay, yeah, a floating baby made elephant with a rattail made out of cotton candy and a flaming hot bird don't exactly make traversing the side of a godsdamned mountain any easier.

or nice on their feet.

"yo, nomes, can ya hear us? aren't there, like, settings y'can turn off? my feet're killin' me!"

she dodges instinctively away thanks to alba's call, sore feet forgotten in favor of the scratches on her hands from slipping on some loose gravel and eating shit. a string of curses leaves her.

and her celebrity crush rises like some crappy hero from an rpg. parker's proud of herself though. she recognizes the pokemon next to her. "yo, me 'n real Melody Miro saw one o' those things in mecha kingdom. made my doll." where did i put that thing...?

she turns out her pockets. "uhh, do you have this thingy? did we get items with us? shit, can i get a sword? nomi, I WANT A SWO - NO, I WANT A LIGHT SABER!"

“Huh, really? Never been to the Kingdom before, but I could go grab a souvenir.” God, his brain is switching to awkward small talk mode, as if there weren’t a pair of cultists trying to take… uh…[break][break]

What the hell were they talking about, actually? Something they wanted, and if both of these people were part of the guys destroying the world, then what they wanted had to be something powerful.[break][break]

“You think we’d just be carrying around something as important as the Prison Bottle? We hid it at Mount Chimney.” If there was anything Head Scientist Sato could do, better to stall for the time she needed. Both Kyle and Melody had been Top Champions in their version of Hoenn; would that kind of battle prowess transfer into this simulation?
