EVERY SUCCESSFUL HEIST requires a nimble-fingered hacker. Thanks to Neffatari Nzingha and Naomi Sato's distractions, Mark Cunningham is able to infiltrate Mossdeep Space Center's computer room, perhaps after disposing of one or two guards and their Pokemon. As he attempts to break into the security system, he's interrupted by a former thief and Rocket: giada morgan.[break][break]

As the past catches up to her in the eleventh hour of war, giada morgan must contend with her guilt while Mark Cunningham struggles to keep the entire operation afloat at the risk of his own life.

[attr="class","missingno-content"]It wasn't easy getting in here. Every fiber of Mark's technical prowess was pushed to the limit as he navigated the battlefield to reach this room. The two guards who stood in his way were swiftly taken down, but the effort left him drained. Mark was better suited for the digital arena, and now he was exactly where he needed to be.

He slung the bag from his shoulder, extracting a sleek, custom-built laptop from its depths. Setting it on the desk in front of a row of monitors, he began to pull out an array of cables. His porygon-z hovered over his shoulder, its oversized eyes reflecting the glow of the screens. With subtle haste, Mark connected his laptop to the space center's network, the monitors flickering to life with camera feeds and facility layouts.

A few keystrokes later, the central monitor displayed a progress bar that detailed the advancement of his virus onto Satellite Cozmo's inner storage. This was his primary objective, but there was more to be done. He needed to ensure Team Rocket's successful breach of the facility. Mark’s fingers danced over the keyboard as his rotom possessed the laptop, accelerating his password-cracking software to extraordinary speeds. The porygon-z dissolved into streams of data, entering the laptop through a side port to dismantle the firewalls standing in their way.

The first breakthrough came swiftly. Certain high-security clearance floors were now accessible. Using the monitor's layout as a guide, Mark keyed in commands, unlocking doors for Alba Evovae. The monitors in the area flash MissingNo's digital signature, displaying a clear message that he was in control.

Mark's peculiar-colored Morpeko also roamed the room; its curiosity leading it to explore various desk items and nibble on papers. It was the first to notice that Mark was no longer alone.

anxiety rolls through the body in waves, nothing more than a tumultuous sensation to match the uneasy ocean surrounding mossdeep.

high stakes surround the entirety of this operation, regardless of her newbie status with the rangers or her tentative standing of hoped goodness with the league. team rocket crawls like roaches across the island. each one's presence - higher up or otherwise - is another nail in her already made coffin.

and even as she slips through shadows a few paces behind Mark Cunningham , trailing him as if she never left the life of crime, she feels dread creeping up like nauseating bile in the throat. do they know she's here? will they take more than just her eye this time?

fear wants to cripple her and she's quickly finding it more and more difficult to ignore.

it's only when the guards fall, when he slips into the room and she slinks in behind him, that she finds some semblance of resolve. an odd logo - his? - flashes across the screen while his morpeko wanders about the room. the small mouse gets too close to her hiding place, to the shadows she's tried to camouflage within, and she reaches slowly for the whip dangling from her hips. it's unfurled quietly, eyes darting quickly between the man and his pokemon.

and with little else to do except prove her new alignment, she tries to strike Mark Cunningham 's hands away from the keys with the whip and a snarled lip.

[attr="class","missingno-content"]In one swift motion, Mark released his hands from the laptop and scrambled for cover. The sudden attack caught him off guard. The two pokemon connected to the device were momentarily disoriented by the abrupt shift, but one of their levitation abilities activated just in time to save the laptop from crashing to the floor.

"You have a whip?" Mark shouted, his voice tinged with disbelief and pain as he darted behind a row of desks. Once behind cover, he took a moment to glance at his trembling hand. As he peeled off his glove, a deep gash from his wrist to his index finger came into view, the sting of the open wound sharp in the cool air.

"Dammit," he muttered, shoving his hand back into the glove. The fabric quickly absorbed the blood as he secured it around his wrist. For a moment, Mark paused, reflecting on why he was fighting in the first place. He wasn’t here to brawl; he was here to make a name for himself. But to do that, he had to see this through. Clenching the fist of his bloodied hand, he solidified his determination.

"It's about time you start pulling your weight around here," Mark called out to his morpeko, which had been idly perched on another desk, seemingly unfazed by the chaos. In many ways, the morpeko mirrored Mark's reluctance toward combat. However, when push came to shove, both were willing to fight when absolutely necessary. At his command, the morpeko's demeanor shifted instantly. It transformed into its hangry mode, eyes narrowing with a determination similar to Mark's.

A wheel of dark energy began to form beneath Morpeko's feet as it revved up, scattering papers and small items in a whirlwind of power. The room erupted into chaos as the attack launched from the desk, turning the electric-type into a spinning blade of dark energy that sliced through the air towards the source of the whip.

despite his surprise, and slight retreat, she doesn't quite leave the shadows. there's a comfort in them, in the way they conceal the worst parts of her to leave only the desperate attempts to be good.

fear continues to bubble up despite her seemingly reluctant opponent. he had been hacking into the mainframe when she struck... it leaves room to question what else he could do, what else he could find.

dirt on her? those around her? or, worse, dangerous and sealed documents in the league database?

"yeah, what about it?"

her eyes narrow.

"you brought a laptop to the fight so."

not really, but she can barely breathe around the expansion of anxious fear, let alone form snappy one-liners.

and while she'd like to stay in the safety of shadows forever, his morpeko all but drags her out as it launches itself toward her with aura wheel. she hisses and leaps out from the darkness, red bodysuit flashing in the florescent lighting. it's familiar, etched into the files of her former life... a signature she has never been able to bring herself to give up. even now, it'll be the noose tightening further and further around her fragile neck.

a flash distracts as her persian joins the fray, striking back at the morpeko with play rough and allowing her just enough time to scramble into another shadow. there, she feels like she can breathe - just barely, but it's enough to try and quell the nerves.

her mind becomes a jumbled mess of overwhelming fear, half-hearted pep talks, and memories all crashing into each other. her missing eye begins to throb behind its eyepatch, a festering wound left behind by the price THEO BECKETT extracted when she escaped. has he told the organization? does this man know? will he take her back? will it be dead or alive?

a shaky breath escapes. she tries to calm herself, tries to console herself... but it's only when she thinks of ollie morales or CIAN MAHER fighting somewhere in hoenn, fighting for good, that she feels her anxieties and fear slightly weaken. she wants to be good like them. she wants to fight for something that matters, that will help people be free and smile and feel the wind in their hair.

[attr="class","missingno-content"]Mark took a brief glimpse from behind his cover to examine his opponent as she stepped into the dim light. Though he couldn't see much of her face, her silhouette and certain features seemed oddly familiar. It was as if he had seen her before, possibly in the records he skimmed at headquarters. Even if he couldn't identify her at first glance, he sensed she carried significant value, purely from the faint recognition he felt.

Meanwhile, Morpeko’s Aura Wheel missed its target, and the rodent was quickly pounced upon by an oversized cat. In the ensuing struggle, Morpeko reverted to its more peaceful mode but quickly returned to its feet. Despite the size disadvantage, the morpeko had a few tricks up its sleeve. With a fierce bite, it latched onto the feline’s paw, a subtle jolt of electricity coursing through with thunder Fang, attempting to paralyze the persian.

"You're right," Mark admitted, a subtle grin hinted in his tone. "I did."

As Giada prepared to strike again with her whip, the porygon-z, connected to the computer’s interface, materialized into the physical plane. Its hovering limbs deftly maneuvered around the whip as it extended, and within seconds, it prepared a devastating counterattack. Relying on the webcam to track its opponent, the porygon-z had been thwarted by the shadows, but now, with Giada’s whip pointing directly to her position, it was the perfect time to strike.

Empowered by the porygon-z's adaptability, a charged up Hyper Beam unleashed from its snout. The powerful blast was aimed straight at the source of the whip, and would slowly track her movements across the room, burning lines into the walls if she tried to evade. This mission was meant to be stealthy, but Mark was willing to resort to anything necessary to achieve his goals.

Taking advantage of the distraction, Mark bolted from his cover and sprinted towards the laptop. He grabbed it from its hovering position on the floor and hid behind the same desk he was using before. During the exchange, the rotom attempted to avoid the whip, but it wasn't so lucky, sustaining a significant slash to the monitor's frame. Despite the damage, relief washed over Mark as the screen flickered to life, displaying the rotom's reassuring face.

Immediately, Mark began typing furiously on the keyboard to complete his objectives, with every keystroke bringing him closer to their overall goal. His ally Neffatari Nzingha’s well-placed USB drive set the stage for him, enabling him to continue his efforts. Within seconds, he unlocked the door for both Neffatari Nzingha and Naomi Sato, granting them access to the next part of their mission. Like before, Mark's signature symbol infects all of the monitors near the door, animating like some sort of screensaver. Now, all that was left was ensuring the virus made it to the satellite and launched successfully.

her efforts seem to be in vain as the laptop reacts as if it's alive - and, as she stares at it in expressive surprise, it actually is. a porygon-z materializes from the computer's mainframe and the sinking sensation of having made a mistake slams into her like a train.

"fuck," comes tumbling out, muttered under her breath.

the porygon-z traces her even through shadows, following the whip to the source. shit shit shit. heavy regret surfaces in a grimace just before the hyper beam strikes. she tries to lurch out of the way, tries to avoid the inevitable pain, but it simply follows her movement...

and each tumble and turn she makes is the wrong one.

a split-second decision of trying to scramble forward causes her to meet the beam's heat head on. she shrieks, a shrill, grating sound, and her body erupts with pain. the hyper beam singes the ends of her hair, melting through the left shoulder and arm of her suit, burning it into her skin. her arm crumples, burned almost down to the muscle, and nausea bubbles up immediately when she glances down to confirm her arm - her whip arm, even - is, in fact, limp and out of commission.

she stumbles forward, vision shuddering in and out through searing pain, and a spittle of rage-filled promise spills out of her throat.

is she really so different now? or can changing her allegiance to the rangers and losing an eye not really extract the violence she had been raised on?

another stumble forward and she locks her eye on the various launch buttons laying between her and him. could she...?

and it comes in the form of her persian trying to swat the morpeko off its paw, trying to swing the annoying mouse around and around as if it'll launch the mouse toward the porygon-z if it tries hard enough. once it's paw is relatively free and before paralysis sets in, before it can succumb to the inevitable, the persian seeks blood with sharp claws coming out to play rough once more.

The repeated attacks, bolstered by its type advantage, proved too much for the electric-type. Morpeko was thrown back, its body hitting the solid floor with a meaty thud that followed every bounce. It finally came to a halt at the base of the porygon-z.

But Mark was too engrossed in his task to notice. The virus was ready, but the satellite still needed to launch. He didn’t have the capability to initiate the launch from his current location. He needed to reach the other side of the desk, but the pain in his bloodied hand suddenly overwhelmed him. For a moment, it was all he could think about. Fear had taken its toll. He couldn’t see past the desk, only knowing his morpeko had fallen and his porygon-z needed time to recharge after its attack. Critical thinking eluded him, replaced by his darkest fears festering inside.

Mark raised his hand to his face, briefly examining it before balling it into a fist. He was reminded of his encounter with God General Zev Harcourt and the display of power in the interrogation room. For a moment, he imagined black crystals forming on his own hand. This brief daydream inspired him, reminding him that such power could only be his if he was willing to take it. This was his chance to fulfill Team Rocket's goals, and he was ready to see it through.

Ignoring the fallen morpeko and the victim of the hyper beam, Mark swiftly crawled around the desk, using its corner as leverage to pull himself up. A few keystrokes initiated the launch of Satellite Cozmo, sending a fierce rumble throughout the facility.

"It's done," Mark announced, pressing the communication device in his ear.

his morpeko thuds against the ground like a sack of potatoes, knocked out and left to exist in unconscious stupor on the floor. she only follows its path briefly, a tinge of regret rising at the sight of its slackened face.

and somehow, he doesn't focus on eliminating her. instead, he scrambles for a screen and keys and the entire facility rumbles with the beginning of an ill-timed launch. color drains from her face a moment later when recognition dawns.

both woman and feline hiss in tandem, perfect mirrors of each other's anger and frustration, as the rumbling grows louder, the foundation trembling.

she lunges, then, for a neat line of giant red buttons between them. with her remaining good arm, she swings and smashes as many of them as she can. soon, the rumbling becomes excessive as multiple satellites begin to launch thanks to the quick pressing of any and all buttons within arms reach.

The hacker's gaze shifted to the ranger, his stomach sinking at the sight of his fainted morpeko on the floor. Once she reaches the console, she seemingly presses random keys, initiating the launch of other satellites in the process. Her Persian stood ready at her side, poised to strike if Mark made a move. The facility began to tremble once more, announcing the launch of the additional satellites.

"Dammit," Mark muttered under his breath.

There was nothing more he could do. Mark knew that getting too close would be dangerous as the oversized feline could take him out with a single pounce.

He quickly stuffed his laptop and cables into his bag, slinging it over his shoulder. Now it was time to act.

"Now!" he ordered, charging toward his fallen morpeko. The normal-type unleashed a new beam, generating three streams of energy that maneuvered around Mark, but converged on the persian, forcing it down as it tried to lash out at the hacker.

With a swift motion, Mark scooped up the unconscious rodent, cradling it in his arms. He cast one last glance at the woman before making a break for one of the fire exit doors on the other side of the room, his porygon-z levitating closely behind him. As Mark moves through the exit, he hears a loud boom echoing far off from the island, towards Sootopolis.
