Brick threw more and more debris on. When he ran out of objects, he created them from the very walls. What did it matter if he tore wood and iron from the skeleton, if said skeleton was moments away from being reduced to dust and debris? Nothing spared. Nothing wasted. Soon, he had a modest load built upon the ever-yellowing spheres.

This was not a tale of heroes or noble causes. But this would not necessarily be a tale of sacrifice. None of them could know it at the time, but Brick would not die here. Even if his bones ached and limbs protested, his draconic blood was strong. Potent. Yet he would be unable to help his trainer for the battle to come. The war to ensue.

He could only hope, in the final moments of detonation, that he would not fall back down the dark path. Dewford could not be cyclic occurence. But it was up to Grigori to ensure it. Thus, he lumbered up the stairs as fast as his massive limbs could manage. There was one last barricade he could conjure up to protect the people.

Correction: person.

They had to escape the ship. Already did all the lifeboats plummet down the side of the ship. If not the white vessels, then their hopeful passengers were on the backs of various Pokémon. Most flew or swam away to safety.

But not him. Not yet. He had to ensure Caleb’s safety. Forget Rocket, forget League. It was cruel to leave anyone to such a grizzly fate. Even if potent, invisible thorns dug into his flesh and tugged with every step across the deck. If his mind screamed at him to push him down and stomp his neck through the soaked planks.

“You’ve…”

Many things happened at once. First, the voice left his throat. Faded into obscurity by the sight before them all. Kyogre, high in the air and with torrents and drizzles and monsoons at its call. Water gathered in front of it, a horrific Origin Pulse ready to tear the city asunder. No survivors.

At the same time, something erupted from below. Electrode and Voltorb were only so patient. They’d had their fill of time and caused a deadly chain reaction. One set off another, and it did not take long for a faint rumble to exponentially increase to a catastrophic boom. The world erupted with wooden splinters and white light.

But the last thing Grigori could remember before he joined his foe in the pitch-black nothingness was a massive force on his back. Moments before the living payload could blow him to bits, Brick launched him high into the sky. Inertia carried him far away. But to where?

Who knew but the vast sea, uncaring and cold against his skin.
