When Tempest reaches out, she can't help but think that this is when she faces the music. She spent countless hours in June perfecting her notes on the sleep study and its results despite the unorthodox testing conditions, but she couldn't yet contribute it to the Rocket library. She wanted to, desperately. She wanted to share what she'd learned and even offer some comfort to those involved, but that would require acknowledging their involvement. [break][break]

Something about, 'my porygon's beta test code initiated an actual study instead of testing the parameters for pulling potential volunteers because of one line code - I swear it was only ever meant to test its usage of census data,' strikes her as an unacceptable excuse. [break][break]

Running is not an option. Fighting is less of an option. She doesn't know Temp well enough to predict his actions, but she hopes sitting at her desk, unarmed, with neither of her pokemon out, is a good enough show of faith to let them having a conversation about things without torture or murder or whatever other punishment Rocket dishes out for internal catastrophes.

Tempest strolls into ameena abadi's office when he's allowed entrance, a yawn cracking his jaws. Sharp teeth snap closed, barely concealed behind his hand in politeness. This is just Tempest, not Beast Quinn. The relaxed way he flops more than sits in the chair across from Ameena paints part of that picture. The dressed down, casual T-Shirt and shorts combo speaks another. (The shirt is printed with some pun about blood and a cacnea. It's clearly labeled from a blood drive last summer in Slateport.)[break][break]

Other than a little tired, Tempest just gives the woman a wide-cracked smile and nods.[break][break]

"Hey-o! Thanks for meetin' up. I wanted to yap with ya' about somethin'." His voice is thick with his accent today; it probably has something to do with the slight bags that hang under his eyes.

His casual outfit and demeanor are simultaneously a relief and a concern. She can't help but wonder if he would lull her into a false sense of security to subdue her more easily. She would be flattered if he went through the effort of strategizing such against the likes of her, but obviously, she didn't want any strategy at all. She wonders, looking at him splayed in the chair, if he liked to play with his food. [break][break]

Really, was he fucking with her? Was he more sadistic than she had initially pegged him for? It was hard to tell. She couldn't afford the outward panic. She had to be normal. Very normal. If he wanted to talk things out before deciding her fate, she had to play her part. [break][break]

"What concern brings you to my humble office?" She speaks as evenly as possible. He opted for no phone call, though he might just be a face-to-face type of communicator anyways. She isn't sure how long she should feign ignorance, how he wants this conversation to play out before he decides what grave to put her in. What kind of game is he playing? It could be worthwhile to start the groveling now.

"Well, I have a 'lil problem and I thought you could help."[break][break]

Tempest continues to give ameena abadi nothing, his smile only widening for a moment. Then it diminishes slightly, Temp scratching a few whiskers he had missed while shaving that morning.[break][break]

"You're like a sumo... soma... sauna... uh... sleep doctor, right?" The actual medical term for it escapes him, which causes some frustration, but the emotion quickly passes over his face. When Temp focuses back in on Ameena he seems to relax a bit again.[break][break]

"I've been havin' trouble sleepin' and like, nightmares and stuff... I asked the Boss (declan walsh) if Darkrai had anything to do with it, but he said 'no'. It feels weird, so I was hopin' you could look into it."

He taunts her. She can't help but wonder if she had been looking at him wrong this whole time. He was sick for playing with her this much, playing so innocent and worried about his state of being when all he really wanted to do was dissect her for the (unintended!) betrayal. [break][break]

But she has to play. She lets him speak. "What feels weird about these nightmares?" Gods, how much did he tell to Walsh? What if he had brought Lulu in on it? She knew terrible things happened to those who fucked with the organization and she was the prime target, and to have done it right in the middle of war preparation, to hinder Rocket's most powerful soldiers and leaders just before they struck...[break][break]

"Are you asking me to get into your head?" Had he figured out how to weaponize the dream realm? Did he know how to kill someone in the dreamscape? It would have been poetic to kill her where her interests and heart lied.

"They're just weird. I feel like I'm forgetting something really important."[break][break]

Tempest sits up some, leaning forward in his seat. His brows knit as he tries to mull over the feeling. Put it into some sort of words he can explain.[break][break]

"I think it started a few nights ago. I woke up from a dream and it was... um... I don't actually know. I think I was at my house? But I can't remember. I've felt off ever since." Tempest deflates some. His elbow finds her desk, cheek balanced in his hand. "It reminds me of... hmm...."[break][break]

Now, Tempest frowns.[break][break]

"It reminds me kind of how, like, I can't remember my daughter's face anymore."[break][break]

It's said much more casually than many people would. Temp does, briefly, seem a bit sad before he forces another smile on his face, focuses back on ameena abadi.[break][break]

"Would that help?"

He leans in closer, and she fights every instinct to run. [break][break]

She holds her breath as he describes dreaming about his house, but it isn't until he mentions not remembering his daughter's face that she realizes this isn't some game. He doesn't know. [break][break]

Desperately, she wants to lie. She has to save her own skin, right? But lying to him means lying to every admin that comes her way, and she's not so sure Cillian Quinn or Elisabeth Fiorelli will even approach her kindly about disturbed dreams if they're suffering from similar symptoms. She realizes, now, that any of them could suspect Lulu Flint for meddling with their sleep, and Ameena can't cause her any pain. No one would ever be as brilliant nor as valuable to the field of study. [break][break]

She sighs. She presses a pager to summon her Porgyon from the basement. Before she can set the scene, she needs to buy a little time. She wants Porygon there to show before she tells. "You know Cresselia, yes?"

"Cresselia?" The sudden question surprises him. It almost sounds like he might not know what ameena abadi means. Then, he continues.[break][break]

"Yeah, I've met it a few times. Kind of hot and cold, though."[break][break]

The first time it had used a special dance and saved his life (or at least saved him from a few broken bones). The second time it had tried to blow himself, kepler brueshaber, Lulu Flint, and oscar clayton into stardust. With no warning, too! How rude.[break][break]

"It's it like a 'good dream' thing, though? Why would it make me have nightmares?" Tempest wasn't the most studied when it came to foreign religions but he thought that was the gist.

She was very surprised to hear about the stardust incident. She'd have to follow-up on that later. If there was a later, for her. [break][break]

She played with her hands as he spoke, uncharacteristically unsure of herself. "I believe your interaction with Cresselia is what granted you awareness during that night in June. You- well, you do not remember it. You will. I believe Cresselia is also the reason the event is processed so deeply in your subconscious. Your brain activity indicated a deep capacity for internalization. I cannot speak to it being a quality of yours innately or something specific to dreams that has come from Cresselia. There are too many factors to even figure it out because so few people have interacted with Cresselia that a control group would. Um. Nevermind."[break][break]

She was getting caught up in it. She had so much research ahead of her, and she didn't... she didn't have the opportunity to pursue any of it further. Lulu would have to pick up the pieces. [break][break]

Porygon floated in. "I can show you." She pulled an HDMI from her laptop and let Porygon's light magnetism pull the other end to contact its surface, allowing a transfer of data. "In June," she started as she clicked around to open Porygon's data sheets, "you were... taken. No, let me back up further. Porygon here has a program that operates off of Census data to pull possible subjects for a sleep study. Those are what I perform in my lab beneath AbCon."[break][break]

Deep breaths. "Are you with me, still?"

Ameena rambled about a lot of stuff that kind of went over Temp's head, but he think he got enough of it to put two and two together.[break][break]

Tempest frowned, though, and shook his head lightly as music was faced for one of them. What ameena abadi was implying couldn't just be looked over. A clear sort of pity was in his face but no aggression.[break][break]

It is unbelievably easy to hide behind Porgyon's flawed but powerful code running and the capacity of her laboratory to operate so seamlessly without human oversight. Both are testaments to her strengths: ambition and perseverance. Both, however, failed to serve her needs. It is far too easy to point out every factor that aligned in the most unfortunate mishap of her scientific career, that this was mathematically infinitesmal and therefore unworthy of safety protocols or contingency. [break][break]

But easy has never been rewarded. [break][break]

That, and he does her the favor of not hopping over her desk to strangle her, so she feels incentivized to give him the whole truth. "I have been preparing a thorough recounting of events for you, Cillian, Elisabeth. I intend to hand it over. I just need more time to untangle the corrupted data to give the most accurate information." Some of it will never be rescued, for no fault of her own. [break][break]

"The shortest version: Porygon's census data was incorrect. He pulled people from the 'do not select' category. He pulled you and several admins from Rocket, and known Leaguers with notable prowess. All. Bad. Choices." She was unsure if naming anyone further was a good idea. Matias and Josh were problems if they knew. [break][break]

"It did not stop at running the data; it initiated the experiment. My pokemon and a team of non-Rocket fixers abducted twelve people. You were all brought to my lab. You were fed a dream mist concoction of my own creation. All candidates were paired up to learn more about shared dream spaces. You were paired with Cillian Quinn ."[break][break]

She might be pushing things in asking, but. "Do you... remember? The initial dream?"

Tempest sucks in a sharp breath when Cillian Quinn was mentioned. Elisabeth Fiorelli was also a rough one, but he didn't know her as well as he did his very paranoid husband.[break][break]

"Do not be alone in a room with them if you do, Ameena." Is warned, serious. Tempest knew what dark things the drain in Cillian's office had washed down. Admitting you kidnapped you bosses, accidental or not, was probably really bad.[break][break]

Tempest appreciated that ameena abadi had been honest with him. Despite being invasive and creepy, at the end of the day other than some jumbled up dream... nothing had actually happened. It was just unfortunate all around.[break][break]

"And would you give me the data on how your Porygon got into our house? There's clearly some safety breach we need to seal, between that and those fuckers from the Prison Incident." Tempest and Cillian had been paranoid for ages after that.[break][break]

At her own question, Tempest shook his head 'no'.[break][break]

"I don't remember anything. Just a weird empty space, I guess? Did you experience the Galar Memory? It feels a bit like trying to recall that. I know something's there, but I don't really know what."

The warning resonates with her fear, but she feels warm at the advice. For Temp to look after her well-being after the unintentional betrayal speaks volumes to his character. "Consider the data yours." It was a mix of psychic abuse, and a bunch of nobody goons, and a face cream with an odd side-effect of throwing off facial recognition - something her tech team had struggled with due to the interdisciplinary nature of the project. If it didn't cause severe hives after use, she'd have already donated it to the cause. [break][break]

"I did not experience the Galar Memory," she says regretfully. howard slayte had referenced it when she visited him in his post-Dewford hospital bed. "I believe dream retrieval is possible, based on what I have seen from Lulu Flint 's technology and my experience with interdream mist's ability to reform-"[break][break]

Her head perks up at the epiphany. "Musharna. She's recently developed an ability to project the subconscious to physical form." The floating dream pokemon makes an echoing sound. "I could put you in it, but I suspect, due to the nature of your forgetfulness and the nature of the study's duality, we might not get a complete picture. You remain conscious, but also in a semi-dreaming state. And I am unsure either of us could control what it pulls from your subconscious. It is deeply experimental." More than the study, but it at least hadn't hurt anyone.[break][break]

Her office was a safe enough space to experience Musharna's z-move, but that didn't change the fact she had not earned the privilege of Temp's mind. She never had. "Tapu Lele's interference has corrupted much of my data, but Porygon can offer you the incomplete snippets he's stored. Gardevoir oversaw you and Cillian Quinn , so it's her transcription he's stored." She could not blame him for preferring to read about what was salvaged rather than try to reform it in his current mind.

Tempest pulls out his phone while ameena abadi speaks; the Rotom inside blinks to life when activated. Temp uses his nose to point at the Porygon, so it can interface for the data transfer. He doesn't keep much on his personal device so he doesn't care if the Porygon gives it a scan. All Ameena would find in the data is him arguing on fan forums about some trashy daytime soap opera, his high score in some ping pong game, and nudes.[break][break]

"I've helped Lulu Flint with a lot of her stuff before. If you ever need any bodies to slap in a machine or juice up, feel free to reach out." Glancing back up at her, Tempest grinned lightly. Then a thoughtful look took over his expression.[break][break]

"Actually, you said that you had Cil, Elisabeth, and some other people in there, right? I'll let you put me under right now if you let me see some of the raw data for them? Nothing private, just vitals and the like. I'm curious about something." Tempest's own eyes shone with a certain manic glee when he suggested it, a wide smile slowly forming over his face.

Her eyebrows shoot up at his offer. He still trusted her? Enough for that? It was an unusual feeling. Not that she had endless lists of enemies or anything, but she hadn't had this kind of trust put in her since she was leading battalions in Galar. She hadn't bled enough to earn Temp's. [break][break]

"Um, I can do that." She's feeling thrown off by his receptiveness, and by his interest in vitals, of all things. Porygon offers a transfer, though the zip file is poorly organized. The experiment showed promise, but Ameena had lost her stomach for re-running a gemini study. At least for now. [break][break]

Scientific curiosity rears its head. "Do you have a theory?" Those two were avatars, but the data from John Sullivan and the consequent Lele visit suggested he, too, was an Avatar.
