Rex peered down a hallway, his eyebrow arched at the obvious gas leak that had knocked out the Pokemon Ranger captain that had been assigned to him and Roze. The captain had been a braggart, but he was also the only person who knew the communication code to contact more rangers. Without him, it was up to the two volunteers to solve this issue.

How did you even deal with a gas leak? Rex was lucky that he didn't smoke, otherwise he and Roze would've likely exploded by now.

"Okay. I have an idea." Rex beamed at Roze as his Munchlax waddled forward. "Don't be mad, but this is totally gonna work. Trust me."

Trusting a random stranger? Bad idea. Still, it couldn't stop Rex from sending his Munchlax into the room with a gas leak. The big luggard waddled forward, inspecting various things before eating a moldy sandwich.

Despite Roze's injured arm, the conservationist wasn't one to hold still, yet she'd been rather stumped too, considering the situation she and Rex had found themselves in, the rather proud captain that had found himself knocked out on the floor was a problem all in itself, beyond the fact that the two would need to figure out how to solve the situation themselves, the fact that he wasn't waking up had been a rather worrying sign.[break][break]

She'd raised a brow as the volunteer seemed to send out a Munchlax to try and scout the situation, "oh, careful not to wander too far in," she'd warned, yet did little beyond that, hoping to put her trust in the trainer's own ability to understand his and his pokémon's limits, "it's rather worrisome that the captain hasn't woken up, let me just pull him a little further away and to higher ground, careful not to breathe too much of it in and keep your head high if possible, gases tend to settle," she'd further explained.[break][break]

It'd been a bit of trouble, considering she only had one arm to work with, yet with the help of her Clefairy, Allende, she'd managed to pull an adult-sized male adult man away from a potentially life threatening situation, with an extra measure of a complimentary Life Dew to help ease things.[break][break]

"What exactly is the plan?" she couldn't help but voice after her biggest concern had been addressed, turning her attention back to Rex and his Munchlax. She wasn't exactly sure how to handle gas leaks herself, more aware of their dangers from having read up on similar hazardous environmental phenomena.

"See, one time Munchlax ate this really disgusting macron made from molten plastic, Weedle poison, and moldy apples." Rex began as Munchlax waddled forward, seemingly immune to the toxic fumes. The snack the younger man described seemed revolting, but he continued on, as if this was somehow going to impress the woman standing next to him. "Really nasty stuff."

While Roze worked to rejuvenate their collapsed captain, Rex continued to blab as Munchlax encroached upon the pipe that was causing the gas leak.

"I thought he was gonna die, but the nice lady at the Pokemon Center said he'd be fine. Munchlax are just built different, I guess." Rex shrugged again. "I figured if he can eat that, what danger can a gas leak do to him?"

The logic was utterly insane and devoid of reason. Munchlax continued to march forward, kicking large swaths of rubble away with great strength hidden within the little monster's small frame.

He didn't elaborate on the 'great plan'.

She'd cringed a bit as Rex had storied out the putrid petit four, not even wanting to imagine what such a deadly dessert would even look like, let alone taste like, turning away slightly as she'd grimaced, eyebrows raised, a pained squint, a wrinkled frown, chins galore, as her face gave away just how much she didn't like the sound of this cursed confection.[break][break]

She'd almost squeezed whatever life had been left in the captain away in the grip of her hands as she'd cringed, scrambling to continue her attempt to resuscitate the poor man before she'd accidentally committed manslaughter. Whilst listening to Rex speak, she'd checked to see if everything was fine, his pulse and breathing seemed altogether good for now, though it still troubled her that he wouldn't rouse from any attempts she made.[break][break]

She'd been a little too focused on the condition of the captain, missing entirely that Rex had misconstrued just why his Munchlax was fine. In a panic she'd turned around, "wait, no, that's wrong!" She'd almost shouted with a touch too much concern, like a main character from some sort of thriller mystery series, "erm, apologies for raising my voice, but-!" There'd been urgency in her voice, conflicting with her polite decorum, "Munchlax are typically hardy in that manner because their stomachs are built for that, not the rest of their body itself!" She'd finally explained in a hurry.[break][break]

Yet, as the Munchlax continued on its way, Roze had cocked her head, puzzled, "... that's peculiar? I'm very glad he's safe but... how?"

The expression that Rex had as he opened his mouth was one that Roze would remember until the end of her days. It was spoken with such conviction that it would resonate with the facets of her soul until the end of time.

"Because he's the strongest." Rex said with a smile as Munchlax kicked another piece of rubble out of the way with minimal effort as he rushed towards the pipe. This was the power of a Pokémon that had turned its metabolism into a weapon of mass destruction. "He would never lose."

Munchlax leapt forward like a missile, launching itself towards the gaping wound expelling noxious gas into Sea Mauville. The pipe was plugged by Munchlax's rotund body.

Slowly, the poison began to dissipate like magic.

"Yeah..." Rex beamed at Roze with an insanely smug aura of pride. "I'm the best trainer in the world."

She'd stared at the Munchlax shaped plug that had fit so snugly into the tear in the piping that had caused the gas leak in the first place, blinking slowly a couple times as her Clefairy deemed it fine to wander on up with the gas dissipating, playfully jumping up and down to try to reach the strongest Munchlax of today.[break][break]

"—..." Roze had opened her mouth to speak, her brows raised, only for her to slowly close her mouth with a rather puzzled look. She'd leaned closer, her eyes squinted as she tried to process what she was seeing, her brain itself unable to quite understand what had happened and what was going on. "Huh."[break][break]

She'd decided to give up, it wasn't worth trying to wrap her mind around this cosmic entity that had partially fixed their problem, "now... that's a stop gap, but we can't exactly leave your Munchlax there..." she'd thought aloud, looking around for some way to try to resolve things, worst case they could always try their luck with her Clefairy's Metronome, actually, that'd probably easiest, she couldn't quite spot a valve within the vicinity, with some good luck, perhaps Allende would magic in an ice-type attack to freeze the pipe solid.[break][break]

With a quick, well-trained whistle, she'd relayed what she was looking for to the little pixie, a soft smile on her face as the Clefairy did a little spin before waggling her finger in that iconic Metronome movement, only, her Clefairy had began to glow, radiant light, grossly incandescent beginning to consume the little pink puffball, in a similar fashion as to how Voltorb and Electrode begin to blink as they prepare themselves for an Expl—the Clefairy had fallen face first onto the steel floor, taking a quick snooze as she began to Rest.[break][break]

"Oh dear."

Ah, Roze was a fellow gambler as well. She too tried to sup from the greatness known as Metronome, but she had failed to gamble in a way that was productive. As an experienced trainer, Rex clapped his colleague on the shoulder and clucked his tongue, shaking his head as he did so.

"Oh, silly Roze. This is what separates the great Metronomers from the poor ones. You gotta seize the moment. You gotta want it. You gotta feel the opportunity, and you gotta be willing to reach out and take it." Rex smiled as he looked from his protégé to his foot, where a Togepi waddled around. "This is the greatest Metronomer in the world!"

'toge toge!'

Togepi waggled its fingers fervently as it began to Metronome. Its Metronome turned into an Ice Beam that struck the pipe, freezing it solid.

"Eh? Eh?" Rex waggled his eyebrows. "Isn't Togepi the greatest?"

Roze had been coloured rather impressed by Rex and his Togepi, "I see," she'd simply commented, making notes in her own mind. The conservationist wasn't much knowledgeable as a trainer—her bond with her own pokémon was fairly tightly knit, considering she's trained with them enough to use signals rather than vocal commands for most things, though she's most certainly lacking when it comes to pokémon battling and the nitty gritty ins and outs of best utilising them, any extra advice was always welcomed by the raven-haired woman.[break][break]

"He's certainly an impressive Togepi," she'd said clapping her hands together with a smile, inspecting the frozen piping, "with that, that's the gas temporarily halted while we can get someone more appropriate to fix it..." she'd noted, looking back to the volunteer's Munchlax who'd still remained plugged in the hole.

Ah, right. Munchlax.

Rex had forgotten about him, if the young trainer was being honest. It didn't help that the tub of lard had plugged the hole with his preposterous girth. With a deep sigh, Rex meandered over to the pipe that Munchlax was embedded into. He nudged him, and faint chatter echoed through the pipes.

"Alright, Munchlax. You gotta get out of there." Rex grumbled as he started pulling on the Munchlax's body. "Come... on! Munchlax!"

Slowly but surely, the tubby creature slid from the pipe.

"Gimme a hand, Roze!"
