Her office has felt charged lately. [break][break]

It isn't the most protected space nor the most strategic to be holed up in. In fact, she feels like a sitting ducklett. Her office at the top of AbCon was a microcosm of her public-facing identity, filled with overflowing bookshelves, framed newspaper clippings of her company's charitable actions, and display cases of gadgets her team had developed and other small idiosyncrasies to sell the image of a tech CEO with a background in unrelated scholarship, that of dreams. Someone who came from passion projects to projects to serve society as a whole.[break][break]

It used to feel like playing pretend, and now it felt like a prison of her own design. She had sat where she was sitting now to meet @tempest and discuss the dream study, and now she was here again with another of her victims. Who knew how we would react? How much he had figured out? And the optics of it... would this appear to be just another betrayal to Rocket, meeting with Matias? [break][break]

Yet again, she could not reveal her cards. She leaned against her seat and waited. He would have to set the tone. And as she felt her secretary's knock, she pulled herself together as best she could. "Let him in."

it's the least he can say to her secretary but in truth he'd done so in an attempt to improve his public image after the recent drop to abysmal levels. he's not sure if it's working or if it'll ever work, but at least he can say he's trying.[break][break]

he steps into the space without waiting for further invitation, crossing the threshold to find a seat. there, he settles in, but not before standing back up briefly to shake her hand, finally remembering his manners.[break][break]

She entered her professional persona as she rose to accept his hand shake. "Mr. Silph," she acknowledged with a polite smile. She sat back in her chair and assessed him. It was unclear if he was suffering nightmares or narcolepsy or addictive and obsessive qualities just from looking at him. There were so many possible side effects of the study that she was still trying to quantify. [break][break]

She didn't intend to waste her time or his with excessive pleasantries. She wanted to extract data from him as efficiently as possible. His own interpretation of the events could be interesting, but so far, no one had shared the nature of the initial dream, and no one had been forthcoming about any fixation on the person they dreamt with. But the ball was in his court. "What brings you in?"

She smiles. He's an interesting man. She knows most of the public stuff about him, but she's spent little time reading Rocket dossiers on big name Leaguers because she spends such a significant time behind battle lines and working behind the scenes. Still, she can only imagine the kind of horrors that come to him in his dreams after all he's been through. She wonders how his dreams have been impacted by his relationship with divinity. But that isn't polite conversation. [break][break]

"Complicated in what way?" She leans back, positive this conversation will not be brief. "I am always happy to get to the bottom of unusual dream activity, though if this is more a result of recent troubles, I must admit that I am a poor therapist." Psychology held relevance to dreams, but it was far less important than the layperson might suspect.

She isn't afraid to burn bridges when necessary. "Tell me, has your sleep been consistent since your initial contact with the divine? How sure are you that your current state is unrelated to Groudon?" Several Avatars were in her study. She would need an entirely different sleep study to isolate those variables, though. It's a shame that he's likeable, given his allegiance. [break][break]

There are few afflictions more common than the insomnia post-Kanto. Not many in Rocket had talked to her about how haunted they were from Kanto, but she could read between the lines. Carrying the weight of that for so long, though, would degrade the mind and body. She ought to offer sleep aides to the Kanto survivors... sleep aide in the experimental sense, of course. [break][break]

She offers no worthless platitude. Her service in the Galarian army gives her a better understanding. [break][break]

She braces herself on her elbows, fingers laced and chin resting on them. "That is a very interesting question, Matias. Implanting dreams is something I have learned to do. Arceus knows, I would free myself of the bad ones." Not necessarily true, but close enough. She would choose to only dream of her mum, to get closer to saving her. [break][break]

"What makes you think your dreams are not your own?" Surely, what he had witnessed with Elisabeth Fiorelli had been a dream he'd visited before. Right? "What have you been dreaming of?"

It's as if he knows how desperate she actually is to hear from her prior subject, the way he teases information. But she enjoys the chase. [break][break]

She confesses what she's shared with no one else: "I dream every single night." [break][break]

She leans back in her chair. "It is a rare condition. Everyone dreams, but few remember it upon waking. I am unable to forget. I recall a dream every night, and they vary, though I tend to revisit the same handful of scenarios." She exhales slowly. "I would label none of them as bad, even those that haunt my waking hours, because I theorize that each dream is a pocket dimension in the dream realm." Hell, why not indoctrinate him into the whole theory. What has she to lose? Perhaps, if his subconscious chews on her theory, he will get closer to experiencing it than she has because of his unusual proximity to the divine. [break][break]

"If the dream realm is a house, each pocket dimension can be accessed through a door. When you sleep, your mind walks you down those endless hallways and picks a door, and your dream is you accessing your conscious in another world. I posit that it is possible to intentionally walk through this house and choose a door to step through." Far-fetched, maybe. But in a world of gods, monsters, and time-space rifts, how far is far-fetched? Is it ever out of reach? [break][break]

She leans forward. "What doors have you been walking through, Matias?"

What a fascinating question. This was the value of putting someone outside of your field in a situation to understand your work.[break][break]

"If the infinite multiverse theory is true, no. Those doors are a result of every branching decision you have ever made. However, the doors that appear to you, I believe to be a response to your subconscious. I think we can gain the ability to manifest a door - an exact alternate reality - and enter it. It went without saying that it might never happen, that it may not happen in her lifetime, that the theory is completely wrong in its entirety.
