the tree nursery is quiet as the sun begins to dip below the horizon, casting long shadows between the rows of carefully tended plants. rosemary—rose to most—moves through the small, cozy space with practiced ease, her hands dirty from a day spent among the greenery. she hums softly to herself, the melody mingling with the rustle of leaves as she methodically waters the last of the seedlings.[break][break]

the scent of fresh soil and blooming flowers fill the air, a stark contrast to the cold, metallic smell that often clung to her clothes after a day at the factory. here, she feels at peace. here, she could almost forget the weight of her father’s expectations and the looming task of sealing deals with men whose intentions she didn’t want to ponder too deeply.[break][break]

she glances at the clock on the wall—a simple, round thing with a ticking second hand that always seemed to move too slowly—and realizes it is about time to close up. the nursery was supposed to have closed an hour ago, but she’d lingered, as she often did, not wanting to return to her empty apartment and the stack of paperwork waiting for her. nonetheless, it is a duty she must complete. her only resistance is a small, tiny sigh as she begins to busy herself with the closing checklist.[break][break]

as the woman is replacing a terracotta pot on a high shelf, the bell over the door's soft chime interrupts the quiet, and she startles without meaning to, losing grip of the pot. it shatters onto the floor with a loud, clangorous sound, and rosemary frowns at the shards crowded around her boots. this must be the third time in a month she's broken a planter. her boss will kill her.[break][break]

even worse, nobody is supposed to be in the shop. it's nearly an hour past closing. who could possibly be lingering at this hour?[break][break]

rosemary fumbles for a nearby broom, her figure obscured by rows of shelves lined with gardening materials. "i'm so sorry, but we're closed for the evening. if you could come back tomorrow, i'd be happy to help you then!" she calls towards the stranger, too focused on cleaning up the broken planter to bother glancing at the visitor.

It'd hardly been a challenge to sneak in. The worker was occupied, and didn't really have the best situational awareness. But she was nice enough. Not what he had in mind when he pulled recruits, but she was worth her weight in connections and they had plenty of background investors. So he moves around the rows of saplings in silence before realizing he could float. So, he does. [break][break]

Neon takes off delicately, tiny vestigial wings flapping despite holding no power in his flight. He peeks over the baby trees and grins, the LED face plate imitating his expression. "Howdy!" he greeted, resting on his stomach mid air and propping up his cheek with his fist. [break][break]

"Unfortunately, kinda busy tomorrow. We gotta talk toDAY. Or well, tonight." he said as he watched the pinkette clean. "No worries, no rush. But I think you'll like what I have to saaay~" he added with his electronic, sing song voice to try to CHANGE her mind.

rosemary startles at the sudden voice, unfamiliar and tinged with something that sets her nerves on edge. she turns, still clutching the broom in one hand, and finds herself staring at a floating... something. it takes her a moment to process what she's seeing—an unfamiliar human being with vestigial wings and a face lit by LEDs, grinning at her in a way that she finds difficult to interpret.[break][break]

"i—excuse me, but who are you?" she asks while clutching the broom handle closer to her chest, trying to keep her voice level despite the rapid beat of her heart. she hasn't dealt with such strange people all too often, but she knows better than to trust anybody who would prefer to put forward a false visage rather than a natural one.[break][break]

"what do you want to talk about that can't wait until tomorrow?" she adds, resuming her cleaning in an attempt to hide the rising anxiety in her chest. her eyes dart to the door and back to the stranger, considering her chances of making a quick escape. "certainly it's not about me specifically."[break][break]

even as she speaks, rosemary knows she's not going anywhere. not while he's floating like that. not when she's the only one here. there's an uneasy feeling in her gut that this isn't just a simple conversation, but she does her best to feign ignorance as she scoops the last of the broken pot into the dustpan and rises, keeping a safe distance between them. she hopes, desperately, that this brief contact shall not end in bloodshed.

He canted his head towards the girl, floating over the various samplings, encroaching closer and closer to the girl. It ups the tension, and it gives her time to get used to it. "I told you, I'm busy." he said with a small shrug. "Joooob offerrr." he said, his voice oscillating in electronic pitches before normalizing again. "And I promise it's way better pay than here." he added. [break][break]

"'Course it's about you!" he said dropping to the ground finally. He lets her have the height advantage, perhaps it would put her more at ease. [break][break]

"Call me Neon." he said, putting a pause on the sales pitch to introduce himself. He leaves her with her personal space, staying a good six feet away, but still stays close. He's not terribly concerned with the debris she's carrying. "I think you could be an asset to my org. And I'm interested in some of the connections you have." he explained, letting the information sink in before he continued.

better pay. a poisonous notion, lilting and gaseous, gilded with the allure of monetary gain.[break][break]

it gives rosemary the slightest impression that this 'neon' does not know her. not truly. though he claims to seek her specifically, and mentions the vague and oscillating concept of 'connections'—no doubt a reference to lovelace ballistics—any research done has failed to grasp any substance of the woman before him.[break][break]

she has no need for money. lovelace ballistics is a multi-million pokedollar corporation, and it's coffers are open to her. the shift of her body, ghostlike and haunting, through the tree nursery is not a matter of tight funds or explosive paychecks, but of spiritual nourishment, of finding peace in a land untainted by the spilled blood that defines her every waking hour.[break][break]

there is blood on her hands, bright and consanguineous. pulling on the gardening gloves allows her to forget.[break][break]

"whatever you are trying to lure me into, i have no interest," rosemary returns, quick and cold, vain in it's desperate attempt to leave no room for negotiation. "i do not work here for short-sighted gain."[break][break]

she is content to send him on his way, to bid him goodbye and hope to never see him again, but thorns prickle at the back of her head. it is her father, and his voice urges her to make lovelace ballistics a success. though it twists her expression, rosemary glances back at neon.[break][break]

she has some interest, at the very least, but not of her own accord. "...you've obviously done your research. what is your organization?"

"Mmmm really?" he asked. "I don't see anything short-sighted about making your own money." he said, resting his chin into his palm as he floated nearby. His few visible wings fluttering around him as he lazed about the environment but never quite orbiting too far from Rosemary nor taking his eyes off his prey. Before he can really elaborate further though, she caves. [break][break]

At the very least, she doesn't completely ditch him yet. "As cutthroat as any other corpo, high tech business org. Just look at me." he said, easily avoiding the question. "Now, here's what I want from Lovelace Ballistics: your intel. Your company's R&D department. Not all of them, but I have my own projects I have cooking and I would appreciate the help." SPECTRA, if they could pull off the tech, would become an invaluable fighter on the field. Maybe it wouldn't remove the need for a squad, but it would certainly keep them a competitive task force. [break][break]

"You must see how volatile Hoenn is? All the weird pokemon that show up? Paradoxes, Legendaries, Ultra Beasts...so we have a vested interest in being able to repel that." he said. Again he gives her a moment to think about it before continuing. "And I know, trade secrets and all that but we aren't in the business of selling to others. More importantly," he points to her. "I'm not going to just leave you in the lurch. You don't really care about numbers, let's leave that to the accountants." Somewhere, some poor overworked Admin Fox (howard slayte ) is about to get incredibly busy again. [break][break]

"Kantoninan socialites are far and few in between, but I can still pick out their differences. You need an in. A better one than a company that has blood stained rumors trialing after it. Anybody can pay for Lovelace Ballistics contracts, but nobody on the market has the benefits we do." He'd heard of the heiress before finding her at the nursery of course. things trickled in through the gossip chain when it came to entertainers like him. Anything Kanto touched, it hung around like a dark miasma. Rosemary, like any well trainer heiress, was charming sure but nobody can quite escape so cleanly that region's bloodshed. She needed a better foundation, and he's sure he can set that up himself. As Neon and as mint frost . He was willing to do it if it guaranteed another win for SPECTRA and for the Science Corps.
