The closer she got to Petalburg and the longer he didn't answer, the more her panic, her fear mounted into a furious storm. Everything felt heavy, the last grain of sand had fallen in the hour glass and it was turning over again to start from its new anchor... Nothing could go backwards... Nothing could be undone.[break][break]
Yuina coughed again, throat raw and lungs burning with remnants of salt water as she clung to the dark blue fur of Ryu beneath her. The first time she'd taken mount to the shadow, but it was a necessity. Her welling emotions, rage, distress, dread, summoned the Arcanine to her as it always did, and in the height of it all the shadow understood.[break]
Her body ached, nearly numb with exertion at having survived the flooding crater, but she wasn't going to stop. Yuina willed the Arcanine faster with each bound, leaping through the power of his teleporting to cover the distance as fast as he could manage through heaving, icy breaths.[break][break]
In the near distance, pillars of leftover smoke still rose into the air, sand and dust covered everything in sight, and the ground was cracked, portions shattered as they neared.[break]
Everything was in shambles... destroyed... And rockets were still patrolling, looking for anything and everything that might be left...[break][break]
"Find him Ryu, hunt," Yuina urged, bidding the Arcanine forward as she stifled a cough, starting on the outskirts around the remnants of the hospital... The sprite Celebi blinked into view, flitting beside her as they started their search...[break][break]

But there was nothing to be found there. Only the dangers that came from a warzone— a structure well on its way to complete collapse, and the cruel invaders responsible for it.

And yet.

As the young woman and her pokemon advanced, searching desperately, it all, too, began to disappear. To fade.

The smell of burning rubble, blood and gore. The sounds of marching troops and alert guards. And the even the horrid sights of a captured city.

It was all fading away, behind a rich curtain of pink mist. A rich fragrance of flowers and open seas. And the familiar sound of dissonant giggling.

A figure slowly emerged from the mist.

Tapu Lele's magenta & cyan eyes met Celebi's, then Yuina's, the deity raising a hand to greet them all heartily.

Where first she was covered in dried ocean salt and the remnants of the cuts and scrapes she had weathered, Yuina quickly became marred by smoke, ash, and dust as she searched relentlessly amidst the smoldering rubble of the hospital and beyond.[break]
Her senses were shot, her focus was barely coherent, it was up to Ryu and the sprite Celebi to keep them hidden and keep them out of the line of sight of those who paraded through the ruin at their victory. The Arcanine's dark coat proved effective amongst the smoke and plumes of ash, able to keep himself hidden within the darkness, keeping Yuina in his shadow as he waited for patrolling rockets to pass. Black ice dripped from his maw, Yuina's mounting distress was fuel to his fire... But her insistence that they find any sign of Doug was more permeating than anything.[break][break]
Choking on another cough, body shuddering at the final lengths of her strength and energy getting ready to give way, Yuina was knelt on the ash covered ground after searching for who knew how long... But she wasn't going to leave, she couldn't...[break][break]
"Please...," but to nothing or no one really... No one that mattered... Was this curated on her path? When she felt everything slipping away from her, when she's realized that nothing was truly hers... Was she meant to lose it all?[break][break]
Celebi flitted close at her side on the ground, where Ryu listened carefully for their surroundings again, but the canine bristled with a low growl on his open maw as the mist began to roll in. In her own haze, in her own darkness, Yuina hadn't realized the state of it until she discordant giggling caught her attention... And then a striking set of magenta eyes staring right at her.[break][break]
"Lele," Yuina breathed, desperate, pleading... She felt relief, but only just.... Where?[break][break]
"Lele, where is he," her voice caught, nails digging fresh crescents into her palms... She couldn't even bear the weight of considering what it could mean to find her, alone, without him...

Tapu Lele just laughed.

Then swung her hand casually, as if throwing something at Yuina.

A bubbly, bouncy potato sack unceremoniously landed on Yuina Higashi, bouncing off her to sprawled out on the ground, drool dripping out of the mouth of this...

Strange, little abherration.

A cartoonish, magenta snot bubble inflated and deflated with his each breath.

It looked odd. Light refracted off its skin oddly, the shadows casted upon it sharp and clear cut, like cel-shading. Its features were round, cute and... appealing —in a very 'The illusion of life by Frank Thomas and Ollie Johnston' kind of way. It almost seemed flat, if one were to stare at it from a single angle for long.

Taking a step back, it seemed like a... living, breathing, adorable caricature of Doug.

And it was most definitely him.

Yuina had had her reservations regarding the Tapu as time went on, the closer she grew to Doug and the more she saw how the two were connected... She didn't think ill of the entity, but she and Doug had a complicated relationship in putting it lightly.[break]
Her reservations were stricken, and she was given new cause to grow disdain for the Tapu as the pink Pokémon merely laughed at her plight, her desperation. Did she not care about her own Avatar?[break][break]
In an instant though, where Yuina was knocked back on her rear as something struck her, or was thrown at her, exhausted, furious eyes stared at... Him? But... It couldn't be...[break][break]
"Wh-what...," she was at a loss for words. Was the Tapu mocking her? Amusing herself in the aftermath of war and ruin and destruction and taking joy in the fleeting energy that Yuina had left, what she was expending to try and find him.[break][break]
"What have you done to him? What's going on? Bring him back, now," Yuina questioned with mounting rage. Bring him back to me, was the implication. the demand, didn't they deserve to have each other after everything that had taken place? Didn't she deserve to have one single bit of grounding that could promise things would be alright?

Tapu Lele simply blinked at Yuina.

Then, she picked the carica-Doug, holding it over Yuina.

Then, dropped him on top of the girl again.

As ever, the deity had no words for Yuina— she had no words for her own avatar, why would that change for her?

The carica-Doug merely snored, booger-bubble inflating and deflating with each breath.

Suddenly, the sounds of movement from nearby were heard. They stood in Petalburg— still an active warzone, even if the league had retreated.

Tapu Lele hummed, before suddenly lunging towards Yuina—

Grabbing her long hair before pulling her down towards her own shadow, phasing her them both through it.

A jolt, and a moment of dark— and then the movement of stomach contents as gravity suddenly took over, and they dropped—

Landing on a soft, plush flower bed.

The smell of plant life permeated the chamber they found themselves in. A vaguely familiar smell, to be sure.

Not too far away from them, at the center of the chamber, a large cauldron was to be found.

This was the temple of life's innermost chamber— Tapu Lele's lair, so to speak.

CaricaDoug continued to sleep, now more comfortable than ever in the bed of flowers.
