embarking on an expedition to a land, or perhaps a whole other world even, unlike any he's ever seen or heard of before was surely not on his bucket list. and yet, here he stood at a rift opened by arceus-knows-what. he'd been designated for a task like no other: to investigate the unknown. surely, the said 'unknown' could mean several things, all of which may appear incomparable to anything he's ever experienced in hoenn to date.[break][break]

without much detail for him to go on, silverio was left with only one choice - to proceed into the aforementioned 'unknown', a knapsack loaded with just about every survival tool imaginable strapped on his back, and a full line of pokéballs wrapped around his waist as he met with the one he'd been tasked with escorting. a tough job it ought to be, especially since it'd be a long minute or two to gather his bearings.[break][break]

eyes wide open as he stepped onward, scanning the horizon. the clock tower in particular, which appeared to be scraping the skies above, would garner his attention until his appointed partner spoke. "this is a first for me." he commenced his response, mesmerized by the winding and grinding of the seemingly otherworldly mechanisms surrounding the pair.[break][break]

so the clock tower was the intended target location. at the very least, it'd been easy enough to spot from a distance. "could've been anyone else...but i guess i'm the lucky one today, it seems - might as well try and make the most of this opportunity." he'd examine the vicinity once more, then return his gaze to the girl, with an expression that spewed steeled resolve. "someone's gotta make sure we're both safe through all this, after all."[break][break]

that someone being him in this case. "ready when you are."

how much time would be invested in pursuing their delegated objective here? who could say, really, for the essence of time itself may well be in question. could time even be accurately measured in this realm? suppose that remained to be seen. should it be deemed impossible to decipher, then it would be a matter of 'when' he was on top of 'where'. nonetheless, silverio's primary task was to ensure that both he and this pinkette would live to see another day - or another expedition, perhaps.[break][break]

a few steps behind her along the twisting pavement, until...[break][break]

"what...!?" he'd be shaken up by a force never felt before, prompting awkward steps backward. already potentially threatening activity, way to keep things interesting to say the least. resigned to lopsided stance from the after shock of the sudden eruption, silv reaches for a ball and launches it in one fell motion, summoning his trusted frog ninja.[break][break]

"get in there and help 'em out!" he commanded the amphibian warrior. taking flight at the man's words, the greninja swerved through the air, spinning, looking to bounce straight on the steamlined beast, only for it to be challened by the behemoth's flamethrower as it weaved around the air. "it can't be...that's...! a pokémon of which many tales have been told.[break][break]

"that...? i've only ever heard about it, but never seen one up close. whatever it is, it means business..." meanwhile, the frog would be seared during its efforts to assist the audino, sustaining a sizable burn. in spite of this, it would keep up the fight.

quite the monster it was, seemingly unfazed by the combined efforts of the two pokémon working in tandem to combat it, with the frog ninja ultimately paying a steep price for its attempts to meet the monumental menace head-on. whatever it was, the beast seemed to be hellbent on repelling all who would dare to step foot into its mechanized domain. "...think it might be guarding the tower...?" the ranger thought aloud, then shook his head to prompt himself back into reality.[break][break]

"...whatever the case, it doesn't matter; gotta keep moving!" with that said, silverio dispatches a second pokéball, and from it, bulky raven donning a steel-like frame had emerged with wings spread far and wide. "i need you to pick 'em up, then fall out! that thing's too dangerous, so let's try to make it out quick!" adhering to the trainer's call, the corviknight swiftly swooped in to retrieve its ailing amphibian teammate and the mega-evolved audino.[break][break]

"come on!" he called for keiko. with the clock tower in sight, the man could only hope that the two can evade the divine monster's steaming wrath, with their pokémon in tow. "we should be okay, as long as we can stay out of sight from that thing..."

"then let's find out what that 'something' is."[break][break]

naturally, if any creature or person would seek to thwart anything looking to get too close for comfort, then surely it must mean there'd be something or someone that's worth risking one's own life to protect. whatever or whoever that may be must be lurking somewhere inside the tower. or at least, that's the sort of impression that the ranger seemed to have composed after what had just transpired moments ago.[break][break]

chalk this one up under the many things to write home about...[break][break]

upon approaching the locked door, the paldean called for his two pokémon - especially his burned greninja - to return to their spherical chambers. the frog ninja because it was deemed unfit to continue battling at this time, and the steely bird because it may be too large to fit through the doorway once it becomes opened. "thanks you two, get some rest." for now to say the least, for he may need them again later.[break][break]

all he could do now was wait as the girl went to work on the door, through the use of a tool he probably would've never considered himself. color him impressed. "nice work. eyes and ears open, now..." he commended her as he stepped in. up the winding steps, eyes scanning the walls, sounds of gears grinding all around ringing in his ears, some more clunky than others.[break][break]

"i get the feeling that something's not right in here..." he took note of some gears not moving, which spelled some means of a discrepancy somehow.

the tower's interior was quite the spectacle, save for the immobilized gears. it can be assumed that something must be preventing their motions, either that, or some form of component was missing. as they would soon discover, the central pillar of the tower would show a case of the latter. "it kinda makes me wonder if there's even such a thing as time here...it feels more like time is at a standstill here..."[break][break]

an intriguing notion in its own way..."those pieces have got to be somewhere, right? maybe we oughta keep an eye out for them as we make our way through." the ranger suggested. although that wasn't to be the primary focus of this operation, supposedly, finding other ways to pass the time, so to speak, may add more content for silv to report at the end of the day. nonetheless, there were still sights to be seen.[break][break]

and if any would be as unwelcoming as that behemoth from just moments prior...godspeed...
