water rises up to lisette's ankles. she is grateful for her rain boots. a quiet huff leaves her — she doesn't mind the rain, or the incessant floods, but she just isn't convinced that there is anything worth spying on all the way out here. [break][break]

but far be it from her to defy orders. "toxapex displaced... is there really such a thing." the brutal stars are levitated back into the ocean waves by lisette's gothitelle, out of boredom more than goodwill. lisette looks at her senior and says, "mister cillian. if there is anything you need me to do, i will do it." which is a very kind, yet very roundabout, way of saying, you look like you could use a break. not that she would dare imply he was anything less than his best, no. but death is quieter than most people believe; death is a shadow cast from the setting sun, as easy and natural as falling into twilight. he is a monument, and she, the meager ground below. she'd rather stand in his shadow than in the sun, after all. [break][break]

"If they're not in the ocean, they'll seek out whatever water they can find." Cillian answers what may well have been a rhetorical question as he watches his Illumina Sylveon toss a Toxapex into the surf. "They can turn up in water supplies and make people sick."[break][break]

He'd learned that first hand when one had contaminated the water supply for his neighborhood in Sootopolis, and the toxins in the water had knocked him sick for days.[break][break]

He blinks at Lisette when she offers aid. His first thought is I'd hope so, I'm an underboss before more critical thinking sees him analyze the real meaning behind her words. Was the concern genuine, or was she hoping for brownie points with a superior?[break][break]

"I'm all right, thank you."[break][break]

What this really means is I'm stubborn. He was exhausted. He'd been working himself to the bone keeping up with his duties in Rocket while also helping Sootopolis rebuild.[break][break]

But his PRIDE won't let him admit it.

"oh. then that would be very bad, indeed." poisoned water would kill just about anyone. lisette thinks that dying a poisoned death would be very painful, and not at all fun. she frowns somewhat. [break][break]

and his poignant answer to her unsaid question is equally worrisome. but she lets her concerns rest there. it is not her place to question even the smallest of things. if he says he is alright, she will believe it. [break][break]

though between rebuilding sootopolis and other laborious tasks, she is sure that the higher-ups of team rocket have their hands full — even moreso than the grunts. each of those rocket beasts and underbosses are like champions in their own right; lisette can hardly imagine what it would be like for any one of them to fall. so if she can remain by cillian's side, for even a moment, then she'd be happy in knowing that she got as close to the legends as she ever will. "very well. you need only say the word." in the distance past the surf there are more pokemon and more people. league or rocket? it makes all the difference in the world.
