The POKETCH was an overnight phenomenon in Sinnoh—everyone had to have one. Back when the digital age had just sprung from the analog, Sinnoh technological researchers and developers came together to form a tool that could do it all—place phone calls, tell the time, serve as a functional pokedex and more—and all that from a tiny screen on your wrist! Ian was part of the development group.

Although the inception of such technological advancements was not owed to him, its success was; and being a shrewd businessman and perhaps manipulative shareholder allowed him to take over the reins of the company after their greatest product eventually became overshadowed by poryphones and rotom devices.

Since then, Ian has expanded his portfolio and tapped into the electronic data transfer industry. Specifically, most pin pad systems in Sinnoh are owned and created by Ian's company—and so earns residuals on every electronic transaction made. This key shift has allowed him to maintain profits despite the dwindling sales of poketch products.
