The battle of Petalburg has devastated the once scenic city. Displaced sand had filled every orifice, and a fair chunk of the town's buildings now lay in ruin. Rocket was determined to help what was left, doing what they could to rebuild the city into their next stronghold.

Part of this effort involved restoring power to swaths of the city that had been disconnected from the power grid. In concept, this was a straight forward fix. All they had to do was use temporary generators until the power lines could be restored. Yet right before this simple solution could be implemented, Oscar Clayton would step in. He saw this as the perfect opportunity to test his latest iteration of 'the pokepod', now in its most portable form thanks to some help from Yuan Wright.

His project was approved, delaying the restoration of power while he set up his machine. Furthermore, the method of restoring said power was so unethical that to learn of it would only further demoralize the populace. Not that Oscar cared; being a champion of progress meant that the only thing that mattered was pushing the envelope of science--for better or worse.

For his pod experiment, Oscar could think of only one pokemon that could allow for prolong usage of the pod. He would call upon Alba Evovae and the eternal floette within his care, and hopefully it would not take too much convincing to receive their aid. While Oscar awaited his guests, he would put the final touches on his portable poke pod--stationed behind a powerless suburb.

It would not take much effort to get Alba on board with Oscar’s project. Understanding the powers, mechanisms, and limitations behind the Eternal Floette for himself was one of his main priorities at the moment; that, alongside his own personal dream project. And his obligations to Rocket for the war effort… and finalising his transition into the S.P.E.C.T.R.A. Initiative…[break][break]

Suffice it to say, Clayton’s invitation was a way for him to have his cake and eat it too. Providing Infinity Energy had been the Floette’s sole purpose until recently, anyway— and he was interested to see what the mind who had created the Genesect template was like.[break][break]

The flower fairy itself heralds their arrival, darting through the air with a worried expression, towards a flowerbed that had suffered greatly in the battle. Dust and debris had choked the life out of the plants, and the diluted run-off of Elisabeth Fiorelli’s grudges had withered the petals to moth wings; delicate, and dirty brown.[break][break]

“Floette,” Alba says its name like a chiding parent trying to wrest control of a runaway child, “Leave them alone. You can do that after we’re finished, alright?”[break][break]

Alba does not effortlessly float on the breeze towards Oscar, but walks with an awkward gait, leaning on a cane for support as he goes.[break][break]

“Dr. Clayton?” Hopefully. How many other white-hairer Rocket scientists could there possibly be?

Oscar's eyes drifted toward the familiar red blur of the Eternal Floette, smiling as he heard Alba's soothing reprimands. Oscar twirled around to face his compatriot, extending a hand toward the hobbling scientist. Oscar was taken aback by his appearance, not because his limp but rather because he was far prettier than Oscar expected. It was distracting, but nothing Oscar could not work past.

Oscar smiled warmly, "You must be Alba! I am thrilled to finally put a name to a face, I've heard so much about you." Oscar folded his arms, notably not correcting Alba on labeling Oscar as a 'doctor'. Oscar did not have a doctorate, but hearing 'Dr. Clayton' filled him with such glee that he could not bear to fix the misconstrued title.

"I'm so pleased you agreed to meet with me, I have a project that you would be perfect for!" Oscar gestured toward his poke-pod, a small glass dome surrounded by countless cables and wires. "Behold the poke-pod, a portable Infinity Energy extractor. With it I plan on restoring power to this Petalburg suburb, a noble effort I should think."

Oscar leaned forward, "But first I want to check in on you. How was the journey over, comfortable I hope?"

“You’ve heard about me?” Alba quirks an eyebrow, a light smirk gracing his lips. “Good things, I hope.”[break][break]

It was quite flattering, really. His own achievements in science paled when compared to all of Oscar’s contributions. The man had created Rocket’s most popular open-source war machine project with his Genesect, after all. The RKS Simulation was impressive in its own right, of course, but Alba hadn’t been close to being the brains behind the operation of that particular miracle. He’d just been a pair of hands, and a surface to bounce off, nothing more.[break][break]

“The trip was fine, thanks. But I wouldn’t have minded a bumpier ride, if it meant I got to pick your brain.” It was the nature of a scientist to learn. That was the sacred creed all of their ilk took up when they first set on this path. Even if he had no interest in the subject, even if it bored him to tears, he couldn’t turn his gaze away from knowledge… Though he wouldn’t say the man in front of him now was boring in the slightest.[break][break]

“So, what’s the plan? Is Petalburg switching to Infinity Energy power, or are we more… kick-starting the system, or giving them enough power until there’s something more permanent?”
