The ash that fell around her felt like confetti, celebrating her departure from the life she knew and her beginning in this chapter that couldn't be labeled. What she had lied in ruin, and what she was going to have was abstract like fog. Her Runerigus lit the way for her down the volcanic mountain, but even his enlightening presence couldn't pull her from her grim mood. She felt lost, but at least she was moving. She hoped to find whatever she was supposed to find, in this coming era of her life. [break][break]

Fact: she was native to Hoenn. Fact: she was a Ranger. Fact: psychic pokemon were always aggressive to her. [break][break]

But the Espathra in her path is stopped. The Espathra does not continue with her day nor does it attack Robin. She does a third thing: she stands unyielding in the path. Waiting? Challenging? Asking? [break][break]

She isn't sure what to make of it. [break][break]

She turns to Runerigus as if he would offer an explanation, but he stares at her with his undead eye. She turns back and the Espathra is inches from her face. Espathra's eyes are piercing. Robin knows they have the capacity to freeze prey, but she is not prey, and she is not frozen. "Why are you here?" [break][break]

The Espathra does not answer. Robin hears it all the same. Robin nods. The Espathra yields.
