This was something strong. He could feel it. There was a thrum of power from the knight's flesh, a rippling of heat that caused the air around Volcanion to shimmer like a radiator on a cold day. This Pokémon was different. It was distinct. If Rex fought this thing, it was very likely that he would lose.

It took all of his will to not step forward and thrash it and crush it and rip into tired flesh to end its constant search.

"Wow! So this is Volcanion?" Rex's fingers itched as his gaze met the disdainful scorn of a knight surrounded with machines for so long that it had forgotten the sensation of man. "He has a cool donut on his back!"

Steam rushed from various exhaust ports, and Rex blinked in surprise, before stepping forward, as if to challenge it. Yet to do so would go against the small lady's wishes, and thus Rex kept a lid on his overflowing desire for conflict and tamped it down to watch as Eris rummaged through her book.

"I hope you find your princess soon, Volcanion! That way, we can fight!" He shadowboxed for a moment to explain his point. "We have a gift for you, too!"

He nudged Eris forward.

"Go on! Show him what you found!"

Right. Right. Trust. He was a knucklehead through and through, but he wasn't one to break the rules. So he probably wouldn't go back on his word.[break][break]

Instead, he pushes her into the spotlight, makes her freeze up mid-way through finding the measure.[break][break]

"I- uhm-" Uncertainty begins to leak through the cracks, filling her chest drop by drop as she blinks and meets the unchanging gaze of the Volcanion. "I found a book. With music. And this one is meant to fix things so I figured -"[break][break]

Ah, she's not going to get very far trying to explain this. Reaching back into her bag, she pulls out an ocarina with a rather awkward look.[break][break]

But she'll try anyways, starting slow as she works her way through the bar, note by note until its all woven into a flowing melody.

ALTHUS X ERIS

WHEN THE MUSIC IS PLAYED, the physicality of the Volcanion seems to repair. Old plating is fastened tighter, and rust is wiped from stiff tubing. Colour returns fuller on the Pokemon's body, but the Pokemon itself does not seem "healed". The rheum of duty and toiling lines the fatigued gaze of the Steam Pokemon.

The body may heal from this melody—but the soul, should it truly be separate from the the mortal frame, can not.

This is not Rex's story to tell. It's the story of a girl trying to remind the knight that it's okay to be alive and to exist for its own purpose. There's another world where Rex is aware of the emotional struggle that this child is going through as she attempts to return life to the caretaker of the Mechanical Kingdom.

Yet her song falls upon deaf ears, and the song that 'heals' Volcanion is nothing more than a dirge on Rex's ears. It's proof that the younger man is defective and strives for something more.

"He looks a lot better!" Rex told Eris with a bright smile, although he can tell in his soul that this Pokemon's body has been repaired. There's a scent of victory that the trainer follows, and the song has not strengthened the attraction that Rex feels for this steam-powered knight.

Yet its body...

"Can I fight it now? He looks raring to go!"

Even if the body were to be repaired, leaving not a trace of wear and ruin, the heart and soul still carry wounds that rot one from the inside out. Those eyes that gaze upon her, an indescribable tangle of emotions swirling within. They are dark, haunted by the time that has all but passed them by.[break][break]

Just like hers, in the rare instances she finds her soul lost within a hazy dream.[break][break]

"I'm sorry." Her voice cracks. "I thought it would help."[break][break]

Her fingers grow white with how tightly she grips the ocarina. One step taken towards Volcanion as she places herself square between him and Rex.[break][break]

"We have to keep looking for the princess."[break][break]

This will not end until they find her.

Small lady was in the way again. She kept denying him the rush of battle that he so desperately lusted for. Volcanion was fine. It was fine. It could stop its march to skirmish on the battlefield.

The only thing stopping it was Eris.

Knock her aside. She can't stop you. By the time the fight starts, it'll be too late. It doesn't matter if she's six or ten or sixty. She's someone worth battling.

Rex blinked once and crossed his arms at Eris, before huffing and sighing. He turned away from her and began stalking towards the exit. "Whatever. Sure. Let's rebuild the kingdom and save the princess or whatever. But you..."

He pointed at Volcanion, aged and tired.

"I'll get my fight, one day."

[attr="class","eris109"]There must be so many thoughts that cross Rex's mind, a battle maniac denied all that he wishes for by her very insolence and stubbornness. There is a soft fizzing of steam and a click of gears, the creaking of a knight as he attempts to rise to meet the burning spirit of the man.[break][break]

"You're not in a good state right now." A hand placed against Volcanion's frame as if attempting to push him back down into a sitting position. "Don't push it."[break][break]

The gentle snap of a steam pipe against her hand, batting it away as she's met with a glare. For a moment she'd forgotten herself, forgotten just how much distrust still remains no matter how hard she's tried to bridge the gap. Reiner growls, but she wards him off and sharply pulls her hand to her chest.[break][break]

"Sorry."[break][break]

Oh so small and unsure of herself, her hand cradled as she takes a step back. A few more steps allow her to follow Rex towards the exit with a disgruntled Luxray in tow.[break][break]

"Isolde." When she looks back, it is not for the knight, but the princess that has been entrusted to her. "C'mon... we've gotta go."[break][break]

A poor mechanical doll, pitiful fake that Volcanion holds no shred of love for. One that looks to the knight and coos with such innocence, ignorant to the fate that her look-alike has been putting him through. When called for, she turns to follow, dainty steps clacking against dusty stone floors. But before she steps too far, she turns back, all to give the Volcanion a curtsey before finally following the duo out of the lonely room.
