it hadn’t been too long since he had arrived, but one thing that Giran noticed was how much the new scene had made Grue start stress eating. at this point the Sableye had gone through three weeks worth of gems in the span of one week.

it was easy enough for him to get more, but the amount couldn’t be good for the pokemon’s health. apparently spicy foods help with keeping you full for longer, so maybe some zircon or topaz will do the trick, maybe if they’re lucky they’ll find a ruby or two.

maybe they’ll find something fun to do while they’re out too, it’s been all standard boring business meets since he's been here.

When you had the money that he did, there wasn’t really any reason to work. But, fuck, was that boring. Which is why he was wandering some random mountain pass.That and he could empathize with the cracked bitch on his belt. Not really suitable for public shit—on the off-chance she went batshit—Cass spent a lot of time at home. And, sure, the rocker’s place was pretty spacious. But it wasn’t really what a Houndoom needed.

So, with the bitch at his side, he was exploring Route 112. The rocky ground was rough and warm beneath their feet. As they wove their way toward the peak of the route, they wove a circuitous path. “Keep it in your muzzle, Cass.” Ezra’s smooth tones called back the snarling Houndoom at his feet. With a glare at a nearby bush, she bounded back to him. Absolutely terrified of the dog at his master’s heels, his Rattata was leaning into the crook of his neck.

When he rounded the next bend, he finds himself staring at some weirdo. Guy looks like he could be related to them; his skin is caramel and his hair the right color. He’s even sporting the violet eyes that run on Nonna’s side of the family. A hand lifted in a wave as he took in the doofus’s finery and ghoulish pal. “What’s up, buddy?” The rocker intoned.. His voice was high-pitched, like he was talking to a toddler. [break][break]“You lost?” A hand jerked down the path behind him. “Pretty sure the twink conventions that way.”

At his side, the Houndoom glared at the Sableye. A dark tongue darted out to tease the edges of her muzzle. Dull claws dug furrows in the earth beneath her.

he had been lost in thought, leering towards the volcano that lingered before him, the Sableye left digging into the earth as he did. his mind wandered, pondering how dangerous it would be to dig into the earth closer to an active volcano. maybe he’s unearth a new hot spring, maybe he’d dig into a pocket of lava, in either case, he wasn’t exactly keen on having to deal with the repercussions of doing so. maybe he’d get lucky out here in the shallows and find what he’s looking for.

these thoughts would cross his mind, if he were lucky enough to have the time to ponder them. unfortunately, a shrill voice pierced his ears, forcing his attention in the direction it had come from, a confused expression formed on his face as this complete stranger spoke to him.

“I’m sorry, do I know you?”

he asks with an easy smile.

For a second, Ezra plans on playing a prank. Make up some conference or some shit that they met at. Maybe toss out a fake identity to see how much of a simp this twink is. But this place is hot, and he’s not in the mood to play Hitchcock. “If not, you might be the only one.” A slight exaggeration, sure. But it was true enough. Unfortunately, most people knew him from the whole almost-killing-a-reporter thing rather than his illustrious music career.

For a second, some part of him ants to shove Giran off the ledge. But this dark thought is quickly banished. Just a passing fancy. A steel hand raises to gently stroke the Rattata on his shoulder. “Thinking about tossing yourself in?” The mobster’s smile is best described as wolfish. Almost as if he knows a secret. For a moment, he stares at the crater itself. But whatever smart ass comment might come is interrupted by the two fighting types that burst from the bushes.

His brow jerks upward. “What the—how many gay peacocks are there? Arceus damned things are like cockroaches!” The Medicham barely got a passing glance. He was still confessed those little shits were just weirdos in costumes.

The dog tears her wicked eyes away from Giran to face the intruders. A hellish, bright gaze darts up to Ezra. “Go ahead.” The rocker intones. In a burst of hellfire and teeth, the hound launches itself at the Medicham. Definitely the less garish of the two, but it’s a red head—sort of. And gingers were Cassie’s worst obsession.

his closed mouth smile is forced wider as the man speaks, his attitude coming off as almost annoying if Giran has allowed it to get to him any further than surface level.

“So I don’t know you but you speak to me as if we’re familiar. You must be one of the local hicks whose sibling-parents drunk too much unfiltered ground water then. Maybe you shouldn’t be so high up, you’ll lose more brain cells than you have to spare.”

witnessing the Houndoom tear into the Medicham, the Quaquaval stops to see if the other trainer would intervene. Giran would do no such thing, watching and anticipating for the pokemon to use its type advantage to ward off the fire type, but when the time came, the pokemon only fled, living to see another day.

Giran only scoffs as he watches the Houndoom tear into the Medicham, a slight look of disgust in his half-lidded eyes.

Aww, look at that! The twink had teeth. Ezra’s own smirk grows to match Giran’s smile. It was nice to have someone claw right back. It really made the game fun. Even if he’d prefer this guy knew who he was.

“What can I say? I make friends everywhere I go.” The next insult drew a chuckle. The barbs were proof he was being paid attention to. “Pretty sure the only locals here are fucking dwarves.” As he looks Giran up and down, the musician wonders if he’s colorblind or if he fell in the thrift store bin trying to find needles.

Dual-colored eyes crawl up the mountains and cliffs around them. The whole place looks like it’s coated in stale Cheetos dust. “Which is fine if that’s what you’re into.”

As the Medicham flees, the dog snaps at its heels. Ezra wonders if her parent was something nastier than her pampered little shit exterior. Before Cassie vanishes from view, a shrill whistle calls her back. He doesn’t need to turn to see the devil dog’s hesitation. Some part of her wants to race off into the underbrush, never to be seen again. The hand in his pocket presses down on a little remote.

The Houndoom shakes her head. Digs at her ears with her paws. Then, reluctantly, makes it back to them. The other man’s look of disgust ears a slow circling finger in response. It wasn’t his fault the dog was fucking cracked. It wasn’t like he’d dropped her on her egg as a baby.

At around this time, a big stick of fluff sticks through a nearby bush. This should be fun. As a guy who liked dogs—ugly groupies rejoice--there was something charming about an Arcanine. Heck, maybe a packmate would calm Cassie down. “Come to daddy.” A snap sent the black bolt dashing off into the underbrush again. Her slim form clambers on the bigger Arcanine like a crazed Mankey.

Hellish fire erupts from her maw into the bigger dog’s face. It howls as heat licks at eyes and sensitive nose.

He lazily tosses a ball at it. “Pretty sure this is where I tell you that you have a pretty mouth.”
