Pacifidlog was not the easiest town to navigate, and it had a fairly sensitive (but flourishing) ecosystem. In other words, the rampaging Iron Bundle was an outlier even more than usual as a paradox pokemon. [break][break]

"Extreme speed," she ordered, and Lucario obeyed, moving too fast for the human eye to track in order to knock the Iron Bundle into the water. It's ice beam struck the air as it fell. It struggled to get its bearings in the water and summoned a blizzard out of frustration, creating a film of ice on the water-bound logs she and Lucario stood on.[break][break]

If they didn't tackle the problem soon, the authorities would get here before any energy readings could be effectively gathered from the paradox pokemon.

Rose had never visited Pacifidlog before, mostly on the count of it being 90% out of water that had always freaked her out, but now that she had been sent here to retrieve a Paradox Pokemon, it had its charm in many ways. She had been positioned here to assist another Rocket member, Ameena, with retrieving something called a "Paradox Pokemon". She hadn't been too up to date with the current events in the world, but from the sound of it, they were distant ancestors of a Pokemon that was currently in the world. How strange... [break][break]

Once Ameena had used her Lucario to corner their target, Rose and her Mimikyu catching up just in time for the Iron Bundle to have frozen the ground beneath itself to continue its fight against them. "This is bad. What if it falls into the water? Do you think it will short circuit, Mrs. Abadi?" The good doctor tried to think of a good plan as to what they could really do in a situation like this. Her eyes went to some ropes and bindings that hung before the bridges and wooden platforms while scheming to herself. [break][break]

"Use those ropes to hold it down, Creepy!" The Mimikyu rushed to meet the Iron Bundle as shadowy arms grabbed at the loose ropes above them. Using Play Rough, it used one hand to pull the bindings of the rope and attempt to wrangle the Paradox. [break][break]

"It will be an easier dissection if it does short-circuit," she offered. It didn't need to live for energy readings given its otherworldly nature. There were quite a few paradox pokemon that had already been dissected by various Rocket scientists, but with those golden beasts filling Hoenn lately, it was time to re-evaluate them to see if anything about them had changed. [break][break]

The Mimikyu held it still on its ice platform. The Paradox pokemon opened its mouth to reveal a hydro pump, but Lucario ducked out of the way and charged forward to punch it in close combat. The giant's head twitched backwards. Electrical charges flickered off of its body. [break][break]

"I wish I had Musharna; despite the appearance of these pokemon, they are susceptible to yawn. It would be easier to incapacitate and transport in that scenario." Letting it drown was looking better and better in her eyes.

"B-But what if it harms it?" Rose worried, a clear triangle of thought perpendicular to Ameena's stance. Even if this Pokémon was a robot of some kind, the idea of causing it enough pain to experience the equivalent of a death sat wrong with her. She wanted to take the non-lethal route at least, and opted to try and not push this thing into the water. Ameena did mention that they wouldn't be holding this Pokémon for long, and something about dissection seriously made her despise the process, but it wasn't as if she could do anything about it past catching it. [break][break]

The other woman brought up a fantastic point about how to catch this Iron Bundle more quickly, one that Rose hadn't considered before. "Oh, Dopey knows Yawn! I'll just bring him out." She dug into her bag for Slowpoke's pokeball and called him to the field. The pink creature let out a deep growl and looked over at the Iron Bundle across from it. "Alright, big guy, use Yawn." The Slowpoke just stared at the mechanical Pokémon blankly for a moment, then two and three more. A rather alarming amount of time before he fell onto his side and lounged around. [break][break]

"What?! N-No, Dopey. Just use Yawn. We really need to catch this Pokémon." Again, the thing looked up at his owner, nothing going on behind those unmoving eyes of his. Rose groaned, pinching the bridge of her nose and exhaling. This was utterly humiliating, especially with a mind as sharp as Ameena's present. "Nevermind…Do we have another idea?" [break][break]

She turned her head to hide a smile at the Slowpoke's antics. [break][break]

Their situation wasn't truly dire, and it was humorous. Still, such amusement belied her professionalism. She coughed and cleared her throat, then re-assessed the situation now that they were without the yawn. [break][break]

"We could try tying him up or inflicting some other hinderance. Lucario does not have the means to confuse nor poison, however." She looked around their environment for something helpful, perhaps even a wild pokemon they could stimulate into a poison spore or something, but then an ice beam shot her way from the angry paradox. [break][break]

Lucario used extreme speed to knock her out of the way, the two of them sliding to a graceless stop. Ameena looked at her wrist as if to check the time. "We need to move quickly or abandon the effort; League eyes will alert them to us performing tests on the paradox pokemon."

Rose let out a soft noise at her Slowpoke's reluctance to work with them over catching this paradox pokemon. Dopey continued to just lounge about and stare blankly at her, as if he had wanted to add further to the humiliation factor near such a bright mind. Thankfully Ameena didn't appear too insulted at her lack of control over him, and instead, offered some other ways on how to dispatch the Iron Bundle here. Not a whole lot of options here, considering her own line up of pokemon and what Ameena likely had. [break][break]

"Eep!" Rose squeaked when their foe uncorked the weapon in its hand and unleashed a chilled ICE BEAM at the both of them, only to be saved by the timely intervention of her Lucario. It whisked them away out of the line of fire with use of its EXTREME SPEED. The doctor was still shaken from being directly attack, only now realizing that she had been clinging onto Ameena for dear life during the burst of speed. Once they had been set down, she'd smiled at the Lucario and offer a quick ruffle of its fur. "Th-Thank you." [break][break]

Dopey, located behind the Iron Bundle now, would looked at the other attacking pokemon while recalling his trainer's command. Somehow in that pile of mush that was the Slowpoke's brain, the order would finish processing in his mind. The Slowpoke rolled back onto his feet and waddled over to the Iron Bundle with that same blank expression before opening his mouth and using YAWN on the Iron Bundle nearby. The drowsy Slowpoke watched the other pokemon with interest, although it also likely could have been it nearly falling asleep. [break][break]

Her gaze flickered between the Iron Bundle and the Slowpoke; it finally yawned, and the move was so potent and Ameena had to suppress one herself. This Slowpoke seemed to have the same level of power as her notable Musharna when it came to putting others to sleep. The outstanding skill of her Musharna had made it a star of her own sleep research. Her mist was the base for many of Ameena's concoctions. [break][break]

Iron Bundle crumpled under its weight, falling heavily onto the logs and shaking those that they stood on. [break][break]

"Excellent. It will not be sedated for long." She and Lucario shared a look. "Can you call this in for pick-up? My radio is defunct after the blizzard."

Between the embarrassing display of her Slowpoke's napping habits and dispatching the Slowpoke without any other issues, Rose was thoroughly at a loss for how fast the thoughts inside of her partner's mind could be. The pink being laid on the ground while watching the Iron Bundle was lured asleep, leaving them with ample opportunity to finally catch this Pokémon for further analysis. Rose had her hang ups about going ahead with this plan, though feared retaliation at a perceived refusal to cooperate. She nodded at the radio duty and went to fetch the one off of her hip.[break][break]

"This is R-Rocket 1, we've got the target incapacitated. Please, ah, pick it up…" Rose called into her radio, ending it without a sign off but they would get the message. The returning call gave them an ETA of a minute or so, leaving the women with a slumbering Iron Bundle and Slowpoke. "Dr. A-Amani, not to d-discredit your methods, but do you really think they'll find anything useful with dissecting this Pokémon?" She asked, guessing over towards the sleeping metal body. "They do seem somewhat ineffective, and it would be a shame to just dispose of it for something so needless..."

Rose's question is delightful. [break][break]

"Ineffective," she echoes. "I agree." She gestures to the slumbering, paralyzed iron bundle. "If you wanted to take it for your own individual research, I would look the other way. Some Rocket scientists are simply gluttons for research material. I believe this will garner no new evidence in our collective laboratories... so you are welcome to investigate it independently." She prefers the work of individual researchers pursuing their own questions over that of the crowd of nameless scientists who check boxes and fill reports solely for the healthy Rocket paycheck. [break][break]

But Ameena's a good grunt when it's necessary. She'll prioritize scientific advancements, but not to the extent of shooting her reputation in the foot. "I can explain it away to the recovery team, if you wish to take this iron bundle away for your own purposes, and I will not give away the game." If Rose has any purpose for it in her own research, that is. "But I will not lift a finger to help you take it. The choice is yours." This is the real experiment: getting to know her fellow scientists. [break][break]

Did Rose prioritize checking boxes and hitting numbers over real scientific endeavors?
