A humid, lush jungle surrounds you. The heat is unbearable and the air is thick. Sweat clings to the skin like a Spidops' silk.[break][break]

Suddenly, a deafening explosion sounds behind you. A volcano has erupted. A lethal pyroclastic descends upon you and your Cyclizar, and you must race against the clock for your lives.[break][break]

Slowly, the young student is opening her eyes, one after another, unsure what she might find this time, but ... hey. She's riding something? This looks very much not like the Hoenn she's used to, much more like a version that could have existed a long, long time ago. Something that her father's friends would probably have some recreation of, with miniature figures of prehistorical Pokémon and things like that. Vespa almost thinks to herself how nice this is when she notices a different person on a Cyclizar as well, waving to the other.[break]

That's as far as she gets before the volcano erupts, and once more, survival becomes quite - extremely - paramount. Fortunately, the Cyclizar seems to know what it's supposed to do, running at a high speed - but when the paths diverge ... Cluelessly, she looks over to the other, shouting, "do you know how to escape this?! Well, this isn't real, but still sucks- I'll follow!" She really doesn't want to know what death is like. (Ironically enough, with her excessive interest in Ghosts and the occult.)

Allegra isn't sure of what she was expecting from this simulation deal, but being flung into what appeared to be ancient times wasn't it. Still, she takes her new mount and the surrounding jungle in stride despite the heat, smiling at the other person — also riding a Cyclizar — with her usual grace.

Then, an explosion sounds.

She bends forward on pure instinct, nearly touching her mount's neck as it begins running for their lives without command. Real or not, this scenario is unnerving, though Allegra supposes it's also an anomaly worth studying.

When the path diverges, the stranger looks to her for guidance. The coordinator doesn't hesitate: Though not a survivalist, she is a quick thinker — and the choice before her is easy.

"There's no hope of outrunning the debris," she shouts back, already steering her Cyclizar in the direction of the cave. Its interior might be unsafe too, but she'd rather take her chances with that than face certain death. "We must take shelter!"

She is following the other without much resistance or any throwbacks she might have had as a witty teenager (even as a part of her would have also chosen the other path - running right into a cave where they can't tell whether it wouldn't be a dead end or not also sounded a little unsafe), but ... as it turns out, maybe adults are right sometimes. "Y-yeah, I guess you had a good thought going there," Vespa only lets out after a moment, still catching her breath, even though she didn't even run, it was all the Cyclizar's work - one that she is petting now, too, with a little smile on her face. Though she isn't so sure about this whole riding business ... "Have you been in simulations before?" she wonders out loud as she unmounts the Pokémon, looking over to Allegra.[break]

And just speaking of times before ... As Vespa's curiosity leads her further in, there is a sudden sense of fear - a grimace of horror emerges from her usually carefree face as her easy steps come to a halt. "We ... let's not get further-" And she walks backwards slowly, almost coming to a run the more she stares at the Wishing Star - almost running into the ruins of lava ...

Upon entering the cave, Allegra is relieved to see that it seems safe enough. Now that she has a moment to catch her breath, the woman registers for the first time just how young her partner in this simulation is — about Vitalia's age, maybe, or at least the age Allegra remembers her youngest sister as. Despite the years and the distance, she can't help her sudden desire to protect this complete stranger.

"Thank you," she answers primly, dismounting and producing a handkerchief from her pocket; with one hand she lifts her hair, wedding band glistening in the strange light of the cave, drying her sweat with the other. "I haven't, no," she replies, now dabbing at her face and forehead, her breath evening while she goes about it. "Have you?"

Allegra pockets her kerchief and pulls out a spare to offer the stranger. Being sweaty and hot is no less gross in a simulation, though the girl herself doesn't seem to mind as she's already moving deeper in —

"What's the matter?" She asks, alarmed, going up to the other with the handkerchief still in hand. Oh, she sees the matter now. Cazzo. Yet Allegra is the adult here, the elder sister — for a moment the stranger's hair seems green in the dimness —; her composure mustn't waver. "Careful, don't go out again! Let's just stay where we are for the moment."

"Uh-hum," Vespa only replies when the other turns over the question as she instead turns her attention to the cave they find themselves in now. The Cyclizar that came with her is staying nearby, something curious in its eyes that reflect the look of many of her actual Pokémon. Speaking of, did that Misdreavus make it into the simulation this time? Hah ... she surely seemed to be attached to her in a few other situations. But before she can think further about it - before she can even accept the handkerchief that was so kindly offered to her, a chill runs down her spine upon the sight of something familiar. Eerily familiar. Uncannily familiar.[break]

"Huh? Oh ... oh - yeah, sorry, I just ... don't know," the young student mutters finding some of her senses again as she hears the other's voice. She shakes her own head in disbelief, turning away from the Wishing Star as she yet shudders. As she feels something along her spine once more, it's a more comforting cool - perhaps, the Misdreavus is finally showing up. With a lopsided smile, Vespa is finally acccepting the handkerchief with which to drench some of the sweat she hasn't noticed until now, eyes firmly away from the purple pulsating something. "Just ... something I saw in a different simulation, I guess? Why I - kinda wanted to be away. It's a wild thing, that stuff. W-I-L-D," she explains - rambles on, hands gesturing in the air to emphasise the cacophony in her own mind as she remembers, and then doesn't. At least for a few more moments, they are safe ...

Privately, Allegra thinks that this girl has the right idea; the Cyclizar, too, are avoiding contact with the pulsating, stone-like object. Despite that she doesn't turn away from it herself, as she has to face the stranger to reassure her. Except that this is no stranger but her little sister — then again, she's been gone for so long that Vitalia might as well be a stranger — she has no regrets, yet her chest squeezes with guilt and love all the same.

"No need to apologize, mia cara, it's alright." With her free hand Allegra pats the girl's shoulder, more relieved than she can say at the fact that Lia doesn't seem to resent her. She wants to embrace her sister, but it'd be too fast; too forceful. Instead she holds the kerchief out again, smiling when the girl finally takes it. "That should help you feel better."

When Vitalia goes on, though, her smile fades and her brow furrows. Her sister… doesn't speak like that, does she? It's been so long. Abruptly this face so like her own flickers and changes, the girl's eyes still green but everything else unfamiliar. In the next moment she sees her sister again, then the stranger, and then she slides her eyes shut with a small sigh.

"Yes, I see what you mean," she murmurs in the darkness, though Vitalia's face is burned into the back of her eyelids. A thought occurs to her and her eyes snap open, the sea within them roiling as she grips the girl's shoulder urgently. "Your name," is all she says. "I need to know your name."

While not quite knowing what is going, Vespa does begin to sense a little ... strange energy coming from the other. Not in the sense that she feels something harmful like the one butcher with the Slowpokes, nothing of the sort of hostility that she noticed from some of the NPCs, as this would be definitely a real person just like her. But ... actually, something rather gentle, even, though she is quite confused why a stranger would treat her like that, calling her mia cara, which, what does that mean? It sounds nice, but ... Yeah. Uh. Just playing along with it for now? "Uh ... you good yourself, though?"[break]

It feels as if the temperature in the cave is turning up higher and higher by the minute, the searing lava yet having an impact on what is going on inside, even as they avoided the catastrophe per se. The handkerchief is soaked in sweat soon enough. Over the shoulder, she feels her Misdreavus lurking, ever-adorning her usual masquerade of a snickering smile, but there is also something curious, as if she also feels something is ... wrong in this simulation. "My name? Uh - Vespa, you mean? Err, nice to meet you?"[break]

And then, the simulation breaks - shifts to the next scenario they will be going through.

Her sister definitely doesn't speak like that, a small reassurance that's bolstered when the girl's name resounds. Vespa, the coordinator echoes in her mind like a prayer. Ugh, her head is pounding — pulsating to the tempo of that cursed stone, though for all she knows it might be her imagination now too — she's drenched in sweat again, but cold this time, and there's a presence just as icy she can't see — Allegra looks away from the stone, the girl too, her gaze settling instead on a common stalagmite, on her own pale and wide-eyed face, distorted on the rock's surface but still... shameful.

Suddenly it's her mother she sees there instead, and it doesn't even seem like an hallucination; she's the spitting image of that woman, and besides, she's told herself the very words Noemi now speaks countless times: You are a Fisk. Act like it. She isn't, not anymore, but her flight itself only happened because she is her mother's daughter: self-assured and self-serving, ruthlessly calculating, never one to be controlled but to control. She has all of her mother's beauty and all of her nature too, even if tempered by compassion.

"I am fine," she replies, evenly, the glazed look in her eyes giving way to cool self-possession as she takes her kerchief out again to wipe the cold sweat away. What a disgrace. "I had a... momentary lapse of judgement. I apologize." She smiles, then adds, "My name is Allegra. It's nice to..."

She trails off as the scenario collapses and builds itself anew before her eyes. There's just enough time to make sense of the frantic villager's words before the specter itself appears, rendering her weak once more. Allegra clenches her hand around the kerchief, looking at the ghostly mare with a storm in her eyes.

Without hesitation she steps in front of Vespa to shield her bodily, though she has nothing with which to drive the mare off, nothing to hand but a drenched square of linen. Yet she has her pride, intangible but inextinguishable. Though Allegra has always strived to distance herself from her mother's legacy — she was always, unknowingly, embracing it. Now she does so fully and consciously, a perfect mirror of Noemi Fisk at her harshest and most unyielding.

"Stay back," she all but commands the girl, letting her kerchief fall to the ground as she closes the distance between herself and the beast. Its aura drains her more up close, yet this only serves to steel her resolve. "I've enough phantoms of my own," she addresses the horse directly now, halting at just the right angle to mount it, "and I haven't bent to them. I won't bend to you, either." She vaults herself onto the Spectrier in one single, graceful motion. "It's you who will bend to me, ghost."

There is a compassionate look on the young student's face as she nods, a simple "been there - done that," following her actions. "It's okay. It's just us in here. I think ... but, my point - I wouldn't tell a soul, so, uh, don't worry," she tries to be reassuring but as she watches how the scenery is undone and redone, she cannot help but wonder if there isn't something more sinister at work. Who is actually the one behind? Who is the one trying to unravel history, time and again, in all this wondrous ways that may or may not be true and false all at once?[break]

However, her attention is fully taken by the new scenario they are in now, finding her life energy draining as much as it pulsates with something anew. Something ... something that touches into the very deep part of her teenager being. Oh no. Is she a horse girl? ... Crap. She might be, as she lays eyes on the wondrous being of a mare, astride on shadows rather than hooves, commanding the energy forces that surround it quite so. Its force is enough to lower even the mischievous Misdreavus' spirit, though much like her trainer, there is more curiosity alighting them. Like pride is fostering Allegra's will not to yield and break, it's pure wonder that strives Vespa to approach despite the other's decisive words, a hand carefully reaching out to see if she can get a hold of its nostrils, a chill wind evaporating into the air.[break]

It's impressive how Allegra mounts herself onto the Spectrier when all Vespa feels is weak in her knees, though she cannot even discern anymore why or what that might be. With a look towards Allegra, mounted on the spectral appearance, she is giving her a smile nonetheless, even as she would have liked to see herself there, too. Maybe there would be room for two? Much more than that, however, different words are slipping off her mouth, "I'm going to be best friends with this horse."

Allegra reacts to the girl's compassion with only a small nod and a quivering smile, lest she show any more vulnerability than she already has. Vespa's musings on another's presence in this cave register as no more than a reference to the hallucinations, the violinist failing to realize that her partner isn't caught in the throes of them.

Quite suddenly, the world changes and she's freed — only to become ensnared by something else altogether, without even noticing as it happens. She's too caught up in the adrenaline of riding this spectral horse, in the physical effort required to stay atop it even as it fights against her weight. No matter how powerful it might be, her will can and must prevail. Their struggle for dominance is almost a duet in its ebbing and flowing, the tides changing with every passing moment, until finally the Spectrier's will is broken and it stills beneath its rider.

With this eerie ritual finished and the ghost tamed, Allegra remembers her partner's words from earlier. The young one has more courage — or else more foolhardiness — than she thought. The coordinator returns Vespa's smile at last.

"Well then, you'd better get on too," she says with a light chuckle, offering the girl a hand; the other, she runs through the Spectrier's mane as it paws the ground. "Hold on to my waist tightly, as our ghostly friend here is eager for a gallop."

Vespa steps a little back when the Spectrier begins to become unruly, trying to resist as all the time, she keeps her watchful eyes on this ... beautiful horse. It's strange how attached she suddenly feels to such a being, but its shadowy existence and darkness-engulfed being, singing of bad omens and woeful stories as she yet feels a bond attached - perhaps only lesser so, considering she isn't the one actively riding it, but there is still ... something. In observation, she believes to find deeper truths, too, a sadness in both horse and rider that reveals something of a sad story. But the young student isn't one to inquire as she instead focuses on the here and now, grinning up to Allegra, immediately nodding upon the invitation. "Thought you'd never ask!" she says, probably a little more excited than someone who can feel that this will be somewhat of their final ride. That she could have chosen to walk away, but ... now, it would be them.[break]

As the Spectrier takes off, their scenery changes rapidly, too, but she feels oddly free despite the burden of the world weighing down in this simulation. Because ... sometimes, the ending is truly just another form of a beginning, not?
