Torchics weren't as fast as their Hoennian sibling. Sure, they had the ability to be faster than fast, but it started out slow. It had to build up to the high point. Their temperments weren't as destructive, but they had a penchant for combat. After all, they did evolve to gain the Fighting type. It was as much a help as it was a hindrance.

The bigger and much more prevalent issue was the Fire typing. The Torchic in front of him wasted no time in incinerating the first dead leaf of the pre-pre-autumn. It ran around the ember with glee, as if it was proud of its accomplishment. It would not do for a construction site to revel in destruction. It'd burn the entire place down with happy chirps.

But it was cute. So Grigori threw a Safari ball at it-- it could reside in his private collection of Pokemon instead.

Mudkip. Just... no. While water was critically important, there were numerous outlets from which to procure it. So much so that it was paradoxically not an issue they faced at all. Everyone brought a water type, so there was never an issue for it. Furthermore, this water type was wholely incapable of performing the necessary tasks on a worksite. Four legs were not efficient, and it did not have the speed to make for a good tool carrier.

Not to mention what they evolved into. Often times they made more of a mess than they prevented. Swampert was almost the exact opposite of what they were looking for. But he threw a poke ball at the creature that wallowed in a small puddle of mud anyway. It would make a fine friend for his Torchic.

Seriously, it was almost comedic how unhelpful the creature would be for construction efforts. Grigori didn't even know if he should review them inside his head as he stared at the creature. It chewed on grass casually, oblivious to the grunt that stood mere meters away. This would be detrimental to his efforts. It'd create messes and burn their down all their hard work.

Hard pass for the purposes of finding good work Pokémon. However, Grigori glanced down at the safari ball. Then the Numel once again.

It was cute enough. he tossed the ball towards the creature anyway. More was merrier.

Some would call this a joke, but Grigori wasn't laughing.

But he threw a ball all the same. Why?

Simple. It was a shiny variant, and those were pretty fun to have in possession. Nothing more.
