There is the teenager, cross-legged as she sits, her gaze fading into the blank nothingness further down the horizon. The day itself is nothing remarkable, yet she still finds herself atop the hills once more, and ... just ... contemplates. There is something strange about the sight of her near all the final resting places of many creatures, with a cheerful Grookey sitting between on her lap and hitting rhythmically against legs and ground, while a troop - the Squad - of Falinks are standing alert. With a small group of Ghost types floating around her in some fashion or another, all out of their Pokéballs (with the Hisuian Zorua disguising herself as a regular Zorua this time) as she ... simply stares into the distance.[break]

One could argue that Vespa isn't one to be very quiet very often, always having something to say, even if it's some snippy short remark or a dry and deadpan comment, but in this moment ... Silence. Until she exhales a long sigh, one that is imitated by her whole team in unison as she flops down on her back, arms and legs stretched out, the Grookey joyfully dodging all the movements. The Ghosts partially float away, partially phase out of materiality until they return once her limbs are on the ground.[break]

"Y'know, sometimes, I wonder ..." she starts, staring up to the sky - at the Misdreavus, floating closely over her face. "Life's so weird."

maisie doesn't personally know any of the pokemon buried here, and yet still she comes by now and then for a visit. she can't make it to the graves she should be visiting, after all, so she might as well pay her respects to those interred here. it's also nice just to have a quiet moment among the graves, enjoying a cigarette or two by herself before she leaves again. sometimes she gets attacked, sure, but it's never anything she can't handle easily enough.[break][break]

it's during one of her smoke breaks here that she stumbles across something new. literally stumbles, in that her foot gets caught on a plant and falls on her face, cigarette going flying. "ow..." she sits up, rubs her head, and starts rooting around, trying to find the cigarette. her hand finds something else-- a shoe. maisie looks up. there's someone sitting there.[break][break]

"...ahhh... hallo? have you seen a cig lyin' around anywhere...?"

As she breathes the strange air of this place, contemplating life as she lays on the grass, she doesn't quite notice a figure approaching, her every being dedicated to study the clouds above and intent on not perceiving anything else. That does change when she feels like she saw something coming flying into her peripheral, and then ... an actual touch. For a moment, she thought it to be one of the residual Ghosts playing a prank on her and she stills in that moment, not wanting to scare it off. But then ... Oh. An actual, human voice follows, and she finally looks towards the direction of her shoe, sits up fully as she notices the other, not bothering with what of grass stalks and dirt may be on her back right now. "Oh ... hi," she says, a bit lamely, as she looks around, wondering. "A cig? Uhh ... not really, but - maybe -" she looks at one of her Ghost pokémon. Only the Hisuian-not-Hisuian Zorua is kind enough to point out the cigarette that is laying a few foot further from Vespa, and she points at the same place that Fuyue points at.[break]

"There you go-" Vespa is just about to say when something catches her interest, accelerating her heartrate as she not only sees a Ghost type she has never seen in person before, but also ... this looks kinda odd in colouring. She should ... "Nebel, weak it a lil', and then we throw a ball!" she decides hastily as she teams up with the Lampent, disregarding whatever else there may be as she is only focused on catching the Brambleghast. The Hisuian-not-Hisuian Zorua, in the meawhile, waits idly by the cigarette until it is picked up.

maisie scrambles to her feet. "ah! thanks, kid!" she says, blithely ignoring the fact that vespa is now engaged in combat. she's dealing with her own issues, lunging for the cigarette lying on the ground... but before she can make contact, something reaches out and slaps her head hard enough to make her fall back to the ground. dazed, she looks up. there's a gothorita standing before her, glaring at her.[break][break]

annoyed, she grabs a pokeball and releases the beast within. a nickt appears, as she sits up and points. "vixen, night slash!" nobody keeps me from my unhealthy coping mechanisms! the little fox charges the gothorita, clawing at it, and the super effective hit is enough to finish the job in one. maisie throws a pokeball, and then snatches her cigarette back victoriously while the ball wiggles.[break][break]

"there!" she crows triumphantly, speaking around the cigarette in her mouth. she takes a puff. "now where was i..."

Already dividing her attention back to the stranger that appeared, she doesn't notice how her Pokémon partners are closing in on another Pokémon, with the Misdreavus sneaking away with another ball to capture a Shedinja before they all tail back to their trainer, humming and snickering and cackling and all the strange noises that Ghosts may do.[break]

"Did you find your cig?" Vespa is asking the other rather, with the Hisuian-not-Hisuian Zorua returning to her side once the situation seems to clear out a bit. Though this person is ... rather strange in the eyes of the young student, it's not like this is the first odd adult she's meeting. In fact, though many praise wisdom to age, it sometimes seems like adults grow up to be even weirder. Her father is definitely one such example. Curiosity gets the better of her, as usual, though, as she blurts out, "are you here for something specific?"

maisie turns to look at the girl, cigarette hanging almost comically out of her mouth, still giving off a trickle of smoke from the lit end. "oh, little old me?" she asks. she opens her eyes a bit further, and if vespa looks closely, she might realize she's actually being scrutinized quite sharply. as if the older woman is trying to peer right through her, taking in her looks and body language all in one go. then those amber eyes blink, and she grins, the feeling evaporating.[break][break]

"just come 'ere to pay my respects sometimes." a duosion wanders nearby, peering at the two curiously. maisie's nickit gives a sharp little yip, and the duosion jolts and floats off in a hurry. maisie crouches down and flicks the fox's nose. "that was rude, vixen," she scolds, before straightening up again. "how 'bout you? got anyone or anythin' specific you're visitin' 'ere?"

In face of seeming scrutiny, there is only blatant, misplaced confidence in return as she narrows her eyes at the older, tilting her head a little as she responds to the intense gaze with something of an intensity of her own - unwilling to bend, until confusion settles as the other doesn't seem to hold up to that moment, letting it all fly by like the smoke she exhales. "Uh ... you sure?" Vespa sounds and looks doubtful over her words, though then again, who is she to judge what people do and don't do in order to pay respects to spirits? "... Me? Uh. Not - quite," she fumbles over her words a bit as the direction is thrown back at her. She scratches the back of her head, "I guess I just like being here ...?"[break]

Which sounds odd. Very much so. But there is something curious about the Pokémon that reside here, like the Duskull that approached Fuyue and seems to be holding conversation - Vespa decides to place a Pokéball next to it, inviting it with a smile - seeing if the Duskull would like to come with them, before turning back to the stranger. "I'm Vespa. You?"

maisie's encounter isn't quite so gentle. a nearby runerigus, apparently not liking the way her nickit was acting, decides to pay the two of them a visit. it appears in a cloud of haze, looming over the little fox. vixen, to her credit, does not immediately give in despite the size difference. instead she snarls, the attack driving the runerigus back a bit but otherwise not harming it too badly. it responds with a body slam, crushing the nickit beneath its bulk. maisie sighs, and readies a pokeball to return vixen... but the nickit is not yet defeated, and instead slashes away at the runerigus, scoring super effective marks across its body. in pain, the ghost type recoils, and maisie grabs an empty pokeball and throws it.[break][break]

she turns back to vespa. "y'can call me maisie!" she chirps. "i'm a private eye, and i own a dive in lilycove." she raises an eyebrow. "dunno if you're legal to drink, though. are you eighteen or older?" just like someone who owns a bar to all but card someone outside of it. at least maisie follows some laws to the letter.

It seems that she met a quite peculiar, kind of intriguing personality out in such a strange place as this, with the spirits of the dead and Ghosts lingering around every corner. She watches with interest how the Nickit and a Runerigus are engaged in a heavy battle until the Runerigus disappears from sight. Just goes to show how every Pokémon is quite different from another, too, as Vespa thinks back to the rather timid Runerigus that is waiting for her at home ... Hm. How fascinating.[break]

"Maisie, then ... uh, does private eye mean the same as private investigators? You ... uh, this visit of yours has nothing to do with one of your cases, right? Or does it?" she's soon to ask, one after another, a contemplative thought on her face when she replies, thinking probably a second too hard on her own age than one could normally spent on that, "and yeah ... "one an' the same!" maisie cheerfully retorts. "i'm not here for one of my cases, though. i jus' like to come an' pay my respects and what-not." she inhales, and lets out a puff of smoke. it's funny how things can change, she reflects. i used to hate the smell of cigarette smoke. she makes sure to aim away from vespa, letting the whirls disappear into the open air.[break][break]

vespa catches a gothorita. a nearby spoink bounces across their paths, takes a look at them, and hurriedly bounces the other way. "this place isn't usually so busy," maisie observes. "ya seem pretty comfy 'round ghost types, too. most people aren't." maisie's never cared much either way, but taking care of dante has opened her eyes somewhat. the dreepy isn't here at the moment, or else he'd probably be curious about everyone and everything. that's really the reason she left him behind; the poor thing is no good at combat, and the pokemon here tend to be a bit aggro lately.
