he opens the door to his office, greeting noah who had visited after telling him he'd be spending this year's halloween in slateport.

"shouldn't you be, i don't know, doing this in your city?" he nonchalantly says as a hello.

he leads him in and goes back to work, motioning noah to the back of the unit where the kitchen was so he can serve himself.

kyle continues on the last minute decorations on his office's interior after spending the entire day doing the facade. despite not doing much, kyle has surprisingly done decent given time and energy he spent for the season.

"i thought you would have gym leader duties."

the last of the cobwebs to block off the rest of the room from the entryway makes a nice veil to hide the rest from plain view, giving kyle less space to decorate without compromising the experience of those who dare peek deeper in his abode.

noah arrives in full costume. mightyena-esque furs grace his broad shoulders. make-up grants noah a daring snout and haunting eyes colored by contacts the color of a golden moon. more conspicuously, he wears no shirt, but tatters of fabric dangle from his waist.[break][break]

to bring back kyle is important, that is: a solitary oath noah has made. a lonely duty he performs despite fated futility.[break][break]

"besides, man. we gotta keep the festivities alive even in war. gotta give hope to everyone, man." noah scratches his head. "where's your costume?"

"i have to finish this first," kyle answers noah as he dusts his hands off after hanging the last of the cobwebs. "slateport kids are brutal compared to verdanturf kids. they judge you extra hard when you're the worst in the block."

kyle was the type not to get himself affected by judgement, but it was apparent that he was enjoying his part of a childhood festivity over responsibilities as an adult.

more importantly, he tries to get his eyes off of noah's costume.

"do you want to guess which one i'm dressing up as?"

kyle continues to move from one box of decorations to another, this time sticking glow-in-the-dark decor for when he dims the lights. part of him is tempted to move them to his bedroom once the season of trick-or-treating is over.

kyle is right. verdanturf is lax. though they had the luxury of lawns, nary a plastic tombstone need grace them. however, pumpkaboo from nearby farms floated about, their glowing eyes becoming guiding, albeit ominous, lamps.[break][break]

"a zombie?" a joke noah makes, but he knows only he would get it. "no, hm. a vampire?"[break][break]

noah readjusts his fur mantle. it's itchier than he had expected. nails scratch across his bare chest as thin, wispy hairs fall.[break][break]

"dusknoir body suit?"

he lands from jumping with his hands outstretched to reach a difficult to reach area, sticking the adhesive behind a star decal onto the wall. immediately, he turns to noah.

"what? no!"

he wipes the dust covered fingers on the hem of his shirt, leaving behind the box of decoration. he bought too much and overcrowding the main exhibit would only serve to make the display tacky.

"who would wear a body suit for halloween? maybe you should wear a body suit."

as the words leave his mouth, imagination runs wild. flustered, he hides the rush of red as he looks away from noah and then heads to the bedroom. he leaves the door open as an invitation to follow him to a private part of his home.

"it's a trick question. i'm just recycling my costumes from previous years."

some of them were actual costumes he had worn before, though the memories attached to them may differ from what may have been shared between him and the record of history of this world.

noah follows obediently. as the clock ticks toward the haunting hour, the gym leader grows impatient. [break][break]

some of the outfits, should the gym leader see them, are recognizable. last year's was his favorite, but if kyle chooses it, noah knows he must feign ignorance of a consecutive wear.[break][break]

"you wanna match with me, man?" noah says. "super easy. just take your shirt off. eaaaasy."

"n-no! children are coming in! i-i can't be inappropriate!"

he knows children do not mind. those that are mature enough to stare at a bare body like noah's wouldn't be out trick-or-treating, and would instead be out catching ghosts from stories that seem to be sensational in the internet.

correcting him forces his eyes on the supposed costume, or the lack of thereof.

"y-y-you should get this on!" he takes a shirt from his wardrobe and throws it to noah. "d-d-did you a-actually go here shirtless?"

the shirt he gives noah was an old black shirt he wore on the force during his training all the way back.

he could've stripped before knocking on the door, but the thought of it somehow made him more flustered than the alternative. he turns back to his closet, hiding his expression while he calms himself down.

noah catches the bundle of shirt. by instinct, the gym leader's hands are quick to work. pulling the sleeves back, bowing the squared fabric in half: rhythms of a domestic life now lost. like a precious artifact, noah sets the shirt on the corner of the bed.[break][break]

"we're just guys being dudes, man. it's slateport. people are shirtless all the time." the gym leader pats his hand down his bare torso. "it's part of the costume. is it distracting you?"[break][break]

he laughs and grabs kyle's hand. slowly, he places the nervous palm on his chest.[break][break]

"desensitize yourself, man. you know this body. you know me."

his hand touches skin. warmth floods from one source to another, accompanied by the feeling of noah's heartbeat resonating with his.

emotions were on the rise for both of them, but the reasons behind either of their heightened feelings contrast each other.

he smiles as he looks down to his feet. "it feels awkward, you know. you're carrying a lot of this relationship."

the contrast compliments rather than clash.

his hand slides down noah's physique until their hands dangle in suspension. he tries to look at noah, but tensions couldn't kill his fluster. regardless, he remains still amid the sea of red in his face.

"i... i want to know more of you." he swallows. "c-can you make it less of me and more of us? j-just until i'm comfortable! y-you look like you h-have fun doing what you do anyways, s-so i don't want to, like, stop it."

he's right.[break][break]

in noah's pursuit of the old kyle, he has shown little of himself. perhaps, there remains within him, vestiges of his original husband. fragments of what once was and what noah wants back.[break][break]

noah wraps a strong arm around kyle's waist. with an aggressive, transformative swing, the werewolf pushes him onto the bed. he peers at his lover, arms on either side of him as a forlorn yet determined frame.[break][break]

"you want to know more of me?" noah asks. "i'll let you know everything. i'll bare my heart and soul to you. whatever it takes." he breathes in, peering down with a silly little smile made even more comical by his costume. "whatever it takes."

caught by the softness of his bed's cushion, he is left discomposed in his own home. his mouth twitches for a response, but there's little to be said when pushed in a precarious position.

"i-i-it's really difficult for me to say t-t-this..."

kyle forces to push the voice out of his throat.

he feels uneasy. this was out of his comfort zone. he was supposed to be a nobody who only cares about his hobbies, working a nine to five while letting his life waste away.

kyle did nothing to deserve this. he hadn't even courted noah. yet, the greed in him is willing to take it nonetheless.

"b-but-" he swallows once more. "i c-can see h-how you had me f-falling for you."
