Her lips taste better than any liquor, her warmth better than any blanket. When their lips part, he finds his cheeks are red. Amber eyes look down, watching her, full of quiet passion. He wonders if this is how most men, taller men, feel when they look down upon a girl they care about. He suddenly feels as if, all these years, he has been missing some essential part of himself.[break]
“I know.” Says Inoue Hitoshi, and he takes another significant step forward. His boot side-steps a flower growing beneath his feet among cracked concrete. Even in a place this desolate, there is hope, promise that life will go on, that something new will come from the ruins of old, dead things.[break]
“That was my first kiss.” And he chases it with a second, longer specimen. When he pulls back from this kiss, he breathes their mingled air and scratches at his chin.[break]
“What’s…gotten into us?” The answer, he thinks, is self-evident. How little does he know.

The second time is too many, and Genny's hands push him away before it can go on too long, now an arm's length distance away. Her hazel eyes looking with both fear and acceptance. Not this way. Her face is flushed, and she takes a step back now. This was wrong, in so many ways. Hot breath on her breath, but wow she needs to take a step back.[break][break]

"Whoa, tiger." What HAD gotten into them? She has a boyfriend, she's happy with him. He's a Rocket. This wasn't right. It wasn't fair to either of them, for that matter. She doesn't do this kind of thing, but here she is.[break][break]

She clears her throat. "It's like. One second, you're talking, and then it's like... I remember something. It's on the tip of my tongue, and you're someone else. And I'm someone else. And it's crazy." She takes another step back. It's like an old song and dance, and they both know it, but she does not like that. Not fully. But what she does know...[break][break]

"Inoue. I like you. A lot. But I have a boyfriend. And I need some space to figure that out." she proclaims, placing her feet firmly on the ground, to let him know that she meant business with her words. But she does reach out a hand to his cheek, thankful that they weren's so different in height.[break][break]

"Okay?"

- Second time is not lasting too long, Genny is flustered. She notes about how it's weird that she keeps getting memories that never happened. YTF is this happening?[break]

The spell ends, and once more he feels like some clueless dog. Her touch finds his cheeks hot, flushed with a sudden rush of shame and uncertainty. A girl has never told him that she needs to sort out her feelings before. Those were conversations for others, humans with human concerns and human problems.[break]
Some part of him wonders if he deserves something so normal as this. She speaks like they’re not at war. She speaks like Molly’s blood isn’t on her hand, like their introduction to one another wasn’t Jubei cutting down a cherished partner. She speaks like they won’t have to fight tooth and nail to kill each other on the battlefield. When the forces of the Rocket and the League muster once more, there will be no time for regrets or second guessing. She’s mighty, and he’ll have to play to win if he means to survive. [break]
Those are thoughts for later. Now, Inoue Hitoshi gives Genny a slow nod. It’s his turn to take a step back, sighing and sitting down.[break]
“It’s good you’ve got a guy.” There’s sadness in his voice, his hand gesturing around them both. “Ain’t like I could give ya much of a life.” But there’s more, and he feels bidden to share it. “Just feels…feels like I’m missin’ somethin’ when I look at ya. There’s a puzzle piece missin’. I can feel it, but I can’t see it.” [break]
He manages a smile at least.[break]
“We’ll getcha outta here once night falls. Then ya can take all the time ya need to figure stuff out.”

It's not just Hitoshi whose sad. The way she just kicked him like a puppy, does not make her feel better. Quite the contrary, she looks with a pout. It's not a good feeling to lead him on the way she did, and intentional or not, she has to accept that this is how it has to be. She reaches for her arm, a sheepish rub.[break][break]

But the way he beats himself up isn't fair either. "You keep saying stuff like that, Inoue," she leans over, and grabs his chin, to point his head to her, to look him in the eyes, that pout grown into worry. Especially when he puts into words what she's trying to say.[break][break]

"I wonder if it's even true, because I don't think it is. I can feel it. Just like a missing puzzle piece." She smiles back to him, reflecting what he gives her.[break][break]

She leans down and kisses his forehead. Her cheeks are still hot.[break][break]

"Do you mind if I stay until then?" she asks sweetly. She's gonna have a story for the girlygang later. And a lot of feelings to sift through and figure out. But at least she can do that much.

“Yeah!” He says with a dog’s immediate, unconditional warmth. That same warmth still played at his cheeks. All thoughts of this war were forgotten. That was for the world above. For now, he’s happy to just have this time with her, oblivious to what the flowers could mean.[break]
“Stay as long as ya like. Not like there’s much to do.” Instead of dwelling on the past, or fixating on how nice it felt to kiss a girl, he looks up at her with sudden, intense curiosity. There is lots to do. In those moments, staring at him, she leans forward, a little extra bend as he seems to think there isn't anything to do.[break][break]

But talking to him, was something she did want.[break][break]

His question was so sweet, like discovering more to life than a war. It's cute. Her cheeks heat up. "Well, I throw a lot of myself into work as a Ranger! I used to want to be the Head Ranger. But when I'm not a Ranger..." she begins to scratch her cheek, a small laugh. She thinks of those times on the coast of Dewford, her time with the girlygang. DESIREE BLOOMS's music, and Melody Miro's both.[break][break]

"I did want to sing. I'm nowhere near good enough. Not like Desi or Melody, though. They're amazing." She's never admitted that to anyone. Not Navy, not Izzy, not her gang. At best, maybe Andrea Vaneau or Shalin Nariya knew. But she never admitted it.[break][break]

She leans back. "What about you? You're not a Rocket right now, so what do you like doing?"

“Ya got a nice voice. Betcha could sing real good!” His affirmation is as swift as it is sincere. Lying is not something Inoue Hitoshi often does. His words flow quick, accompanied by an exaggerated nod.[break]
“I ain’t, uh, really got many hobbies. Lesseeee…” His voice trails off as he palms his chin, deep in thought. “Uh, well, I like to practice swingin’ my sword! Or exercisin’ with the General or my Aniki! It’s always fun to walk Blondie’s Lycanroc in the park! I used to work security in a casino! That was a lotta fun! I’d get free food n’ drinks! All I had to do was kick folks out if they got too rowdy!” Never does he stop to think about how odd most people would find him for thinking about a job like a hobby.[break]
“Back in the day, I used to play pachinko. Nowadays I spend most of my money on Petalburg. No money left for meat or pachinko…” His stomach growls at the mention of meat. It’s been a while since he’s had a meal. There’s nothing to eat down in these tunnels except stashes of MREs.[break]
“You should sing fer me! I bet yer just as good as Melody Miro or that other girl ya mentioned! C’mon!”
