And while she was still in one piece…it would be a lie to say she hadn’t gotten her ass readily handed to her. The battles had been somewhat close, but her poor skills were abundantly clear.[break][break] Maybe she hadn’t totally lost.[break][break] But it wasn’t good enough. Not to her. And it wouldn’t do the League any good if she couldn’t drive at least one Rocket into the dirt.[break][break] Irritated, she kicked at a loose rock that was maybe a bit too big to be kicked. The flare of pain in her toe was instant, and she howled her indignant rage, only to realize that she should’ve been keeping quiet. Her hands slapped over her mouth and she froze in her tracks. Her alolan ninetales, worse for wear but steadfast, cocked her head to the side as she looked at her trainer.[break][break] Furia made a slight chuffing noise–a sound of exasperation if there ever was one, and she leaned forward to nudge her cool, wet nose against Calla’s hand. A slight attempt to soothe the fury that lingered in the girl’s petite body.[break][break] Cal tried to let out a breath and she leaned against a tree, eyes falling shut as she pressed a palm to her forehead. This was pointless, wasn’t it? Some of her anger bled out and she registered the tiredness in her limbs. The frustration at not being good enough finally sliding from indignant to despairing.[break][break] She was meant to run, wasn’t she? A coward’s exit, just like Kanto.[break][break] Her hand smacked lightly against her forehead as she grit her teeth and tried to shake off the self-deprecation. Maybe she should just call out her altaria and fly out of there. Forget this ever happened and that she’d ever tried to be something more capable than her means.[break][break] But the low growl that erupted from Furia made her go still–the cold flush of dread washing through her. And it was then that she could hear the rustling coming from behind the tree she rested against. How did she miss it before? It was plain as day.
