Not due to the wily shenanigans of this region or some over-the-top villain attempting to snipe her for her transgressions but rather, due to a musclebrain and over-expectations for a situation that takes far more effort than just hope to handle.[break][break]

Still, that doesn't deter her. When has a setback deterred her for long? Even if she were to hit rock-bottom or lose a limb, she'd have to find a way to keep crawling, to keep moving onwards because that's all she has.[break][break]

"Didn't think you'd agree to come along." One hand wrapped around the strap of her backpack, the other gently brushing against the cracked walls. Her voice floats through the dim-lit corridor, mixed with several rhythms of different footsteps as they approach Volcanion's chamber. "You're not gonna get to fight him unless he's made some miraculous recovery overnight."

🗺️ SPECIAL HUNT: Althus Rex will be able to encounter a VOLCANION that can speak. You must win its trust in some way, for it is wary of humans due to an unknown reason, but perhaps related to the events that have transpired in this kingdom a long time ago.[break][break]

It guards several SOUL-HEARTS that it is attempting to repair. It will manage to repair one Soul-Hearts by chance as it transfers some of its INFINITY ENERGY to it, shortening the Volcanion's life. The Volcanion is doing this in an attempt to find the MAGEARNA it had sworn to protect a long time ago, believing itself to be the last surviving "knight" of the royal guard.[break][break]

Bringing one SOULLESS MAGEARNA to the Volcanion will allow your character(s) to open a hatch on the Magearna's chest to install the Soul-Heart in order to grant it "life", which then can be captured.[break][break]

Instead of a MAGEARNA, you may encounter and catch a STAKATAKA that has managed to displace itself here. Whether it is here from Hoenn or another location in ULTRA SPACE is unknown.

Rex speaks like a sage for a man who doesn't believe a word he's saying. Behind the duo, a Carbink follows them after being freed from slave labor. Frankly, Althus Rex didn't believe in conviction or purpose or anything of the type. He just wanted to fight long and hard and good and true, so that when he was finally dead and buried, he could say it had been a life worth living.

After all, this life was spent on borrowed time.

"I think I can beat him, actually. You could see it in his gait. Old and strong. Volcanion would be a good fight!"

The door stood before them, and Rex pushed it open with a creak.

[attr="class","eris109"]Contrary to his belief, there is a flicker of recognition for his words. But she just isn't quite sure if it's applicable to this very situation.[break][break]

"I'll think you'll just be pissing him off, more than anything." After all, Volcanion's raison d'etre seems to finding Magearna. So much so that he is willing to give up fragments of his life just to look for her. Eye resting upon Rex's hand as he pushes into the room, she takes a breath and waits for the door to be open just enough for her to slip on past him. "No fighting him. He isn't recovered."[break][break]

That, she is unwilling to budge on. And she will very well break his bones if he tries anything.[break][break]

"Volcanion!" A callout to let him know of her arrival. A rather audible sigh ringing from the back of the room as the knight prepares himself for yet another day of dealing with this damn kid again. "Rex is here too."[break][break]

Oh, that look that greets her when she rounds the corner of the Magearna pile. Weary and quite honestly, looking like an old man who's just been rudely awakened from his nap. Still, there's no way he's making any efforts to get up and walk away for such insignificant gnats.[break][break]

Not that Eris would've let him get away before she tended to him. As ocean eyes pour over her approaching figure, she has one hand pulling out a pokeball, calling upon a Corsola that waddles before the knight. And like always, Cori chirps in greeting, wiggling his stubby coral feet as he begins to create a cloud of Life Dew.[break][break]

"Is she not with you today?"[break][break]

A low, thoughtful rumble. Longing without a trace of the same frustration he had held for the Magearna when he'd given life to her all those months back.[break][break]

"She is. Just resting in her pokeball, 'cause it was a pretty long trek." Comes the reply, a hand vaguely gesturing towards his ring, to which he sighs and reluctantly offers one half. "Did you want to see her?"[break][break]

"No. That is fine."[break][break]

Bit by bit, he absorbs the healing waters, silence falling over the duo as she finds a spot to sit and makes herself comfortable.

Eris and Volcanion talk like old friends. Rex wasn't old, nor was he a friend to either. He was just a man here to train, and while the mass-produced machinery that made up this kingdom ensured a plentiful supply of foes, Rex was beginning to grow bored of them.

They were predictable.

Easy to beat.

Dull.

So while Volcanion basked in the healing waters, Rex throws a ball shaped like a Voltorb against a wall and catches it. It turns into a methodical sound, comparable to the intermittent clicking of gears and mechanical parts. Rex himself had little to offer to this court of knights.

So he threw the ball.

Again.

Again.

Again.

"ARGHHHHHHHHHHHH!" Rex finally stood up. "I can't take this anymore!"

After all, having to follow her here but not get to do much must bore him out of his mind. If the repeated bouncing of the ball doesn't prove it, then his yells most certainly do.[break][break]

Volcanion's wistfulness is marred by a distinct twitch of his lips, eyes losing that glaze as he raises a brow at the disruptive mess. On the other hand, Eris is tense, one hand on the ground as she and Reiner look to Rex.[break][break]

"Do you... wanna head out first to the clock tower? We're almost done, so Volcanion, Reiner and I can catch up with you later."

Rex grinded his teeth with anger as he shook his head furiously.

"I've been wandering around this kingdom doing errands with you all day! And the day before that! I came here for practice, but the only thing I'm practicing is the fact that several of the robots here swing at right angles! I'm stronger than any random machine here in this kingdom, and nothing can rival me!"

He pointed a finger at Volcanion.

"Except for him."

He wanted to fight the strongest entities in the region to ensure that he never grew rusty. There were too many trainers with strong Pokémon, and the ones that didn't travel with trainers had to be incredibly powerful to stay independent. This Volcanion had been here for years. Years!

The strategies Rex could adopt by fighting it...

"That's why..." From a red haze emerged a Gallade, who took up a fighting stance. "...I wanna see what he can do!"

The knight lunged forward.

[attr="class","eris109"]It is a realisation, one gained from listening to his yells as she reaches for her pokeball. As someone who has dealt with space-time anomalies, extradimensional threats, unnatural powers and fickle gods, one battle-crazed maniac certainly will not faze her.[break][break]

Pushing to her feet, her arms dip into a flash of red and draws a Doublade from its scabbard. With a step forward, she wastes no time in intercepting the strike, raising her swords as she braces herself for the blow.[break][break]

"I believe I've told you that he isn't feeling well."[break][break]

Mechanical clockwork clicks and sings, a dainty figure alighting upon the cracked concrete. Rigid and poised with eyes focused upon the man and his Gallade, her soul-heart burns lowly with a faint pink gleam.

Eris Halla is a child. That fact causes Gallade to slow the blade falling towards her neck just enough for the Doublade to intercept the attack. There's a large swath of empathy and humanity in Gallade's breast, but that does not apply to the knight's trainer.

Althus Rex, put simply, was a monster.

"Oh?" Rex's grin grew wide as Eris blocked Gallade's advance towards Volcanion. He laughed loudly, his white teeth flashing in a castle of cold steel. The fact that she had stood up at all brought him immense joy. "So you're gonna fight for him?"

Kids could be strong. Fortunate for Rex, and unfortunately for Eris, Rex didn't particularly care if someone was ten or thirty or a hundred. If they had the capacity to give him a challenge, he'd sharpen his blade against theirs and grow even further. That was his purpose.

With a whistle, Gallade pressed forward, eyes flashing as it foresaw an attack with a vision of the future.

"Fine by me!"

[attr="class","eris109"]As knights assigned a duty, Jack will not fail. An iron will stands between faltering blade and precious ward, holding strong even without Eris' aid. Pushing back to gain a bit of distance, she tosses one Doublade right at the Gallade and grasps the other with both hands.[break][break]

His commands reflect a fragment of her own, a cascading tap of her fingers around the handle breathing life into her knight. A dark red trickles down the blade, bleeding into an ominous darkness that peels and flickers at the edges. As the Gallade lunges once more, she takes one step forward and swings, a Night Slash carving through the air towards him.[break][break]

"What part of he isn't feeling well do you not understand?"
