it was the middle of the day. the sun was shining brightly up in the horizon and the rays it emitted were scorching to the skin. thankfully, the shade provided by the trees of the petalburg woods were enough to keep kyle from complaining out loud.

eyes would stray to the wristwatch of an outstretched arm, reading the time. a dissatisfied expression was on kyle's face, but he nonetheless accepts the situation as it is. he takes a whistle out and blows on it. no audible sound could be heard, but from the bushes come three lycanrocs of different forms, assembling themselves before kyle.

"you all got your stealth rocks down?" he asks. all three only kept still, making no signs of confirming nor denying the fact. it wasn't until zeke barks once that kyle leans down and gives each of them a pat on the head. he sighs heavily, wondering if his pokemon thought they were being cute by doing that.

kyle starts to wander around the petalburg woods.

an explosion sounds from the distance. kyle wastes no effort to move to the direction of the blast as soon as he hears it, three of his dogs following closely behind their trainer.

he sees a cloud of dust and dirt. broken pieces of foliage and twigs were littered among an otherwise clear patch of dirt, and along with it were pulverized stone and crushed rocks. he takes a glance at his group of lycanroc behind him. sirius' bark indicates that it was his own stealth rock trap detonated the explosion.

in the middle of the mess was a fainted pineco. he assumes it was a wild pokemon that got caught by the trap and simply reacted to it like any other distressed pineco does -- explode. his hands rub the back of his nape. this wasn't what he expected when he got his pokemon to make traps around the petalburg woods, but he supposed this works.

he lobs a pokeball at it, taking the pineco within the capsule.

the cry of a bug alerts one of his lycanroc as camus quickly turns his head to a direction opposite the one they were heading to. he looks at his trainer, waits for the subtle nod from him, and then heads to where the bug-type was.

the canine brings kyle to the injured body of the venipede, ravaged by multiple layers of stealth rocks. a bark and a wag of the tail tells the trainer that the pokemon was proud of his handiwork. he gives it a pat on the head as he proceeds to take a pokeball out of his belongings, aiming it at the venipede that struggled to move away.

he tosses it at the bug-type, enveloping it in red light as it swallows it. the ball drops on the ground, shaking a few times.

the combee was incapacitated by the time they reach it.

sirius runs ahead, trotting all over the bug-type's weakened and unconscious state, and starts to stare at it. he reaches at it with its nose, inspecting it, before turning back to kyle with a satisfied smile and a wagging tail. it's proud that it's stealth rocks did its job, and kyle was proud that he has the idea of trapping the whole area with stealth rocks so he doesn't have to battle each of them individually.

he tosses another pokeball at the combee.

the first actual challenge comes when the pinsir rushes straight through the rocks and charge right at them. kyle notices it late, though he has confidence that his pokemon will be able to take care of it easily.

zeke takes the front, eating the damage up as he puts himself in the way of the pinsir's attack. stone edges would emerge from the ground at the last moment, hitting the pinsir just before its horns manages to reach the lycanroc. it was but a split second, but the battle ends even before kyle could even get a command in.

his heart was racing, but kyle doesn't appear perturbed by the sequence of events. stealth rocks make the entire woods his lycanroc's dominion, especially with the bug-types that live within the area. there was nothing to be afraid of as long as he has his rock-types to protect him from their attacks.

kyle tosses a pokeball at it to add to his collection.

they happen upon a downed wimpod from just wandering around. its wounds were minimal, having not gone past the layer of stealth rocks that his pokemon had laid around a certain area of the forest, but it still seemed to be in pain. perhaps exaggerating it?

kyle motions for one of his pokemon to approach it. zeke points a claw at himself before coming forward as soon as it sees his trainer's nod. nearing the bug-type, he pokes it with a single claw. there was no movement from it as a result of the action. kyle wonders if it's dead or not. he hopes it wasn't the case since he needs as many specimens of bugs to win the contest.

he lobs a pokeball at the wimpod for another capture.

the red-colored rock stuck out from the scenery when compared to the rest of the green hues of the petalburg woods. it wasn't even the same color as the stealth rocks, but it was red, and with the same pattern as a pokemon kyle has.

it didn't stick its head nor its limbs out, but he knows it's a shuckle.

kyle motions for one of his lycanroc to approach it. sirius reaches for it and grabs it with his fangs, shaking its shell until the yellow parts of the shuckle come out. the quick movements done by the rock-type leaves it confused and dazed, not reacting to anything when the lycanroc eventually gently places it to the ground.

the pokeball is tossed at its unconscious body.
