As he finished undocking the ship from the port, he briefly raised his gaze towards the horizon.
"Your conviction will and has served you well, but you lack wisdom. a skip in time does not equate to a life lived." "If you remain as obdurate as you are, pushing others, your peers, and your heart away, you and everything you love will plummet into peril, including your Tapu Temple."

He scowled, the words spoken by that woman barreling unwanted into the forefront of his thoughts, as oft did since that night.

The meaning of her words was not exactly difficult to parse— but he could not understand why she'd feel the need to tell him such things.

Not that chaste my tight ass. Irritation surged through him.

In the end, he could not dismiss everything she said out of hand despite his best efforts. And her mentioning the island specifically...

"Haaaah." He breathed out heavily, bringing his hand to the bridge of his nose.

He had to admit that, if nothing else... it was perhaps best if the temple had more inhabitants, and indeed, guardians, than just Tapu Lele and himself.

Thus...

Genevieve Cromwell. (Unknowing) Elite 4 candidate. AQUA initiative member.

Tapu Bulu's avatar, and Yuina Higashi's close friend.

Only the last two really mattered to him— or rather, the only reasons he had decided to go through with it at all.

It felt awkward to reach out to someone he didn't know, specially for a subject he couldn't quite explain— but that was were Yuina came in.

His ear twitched as the sound of groaning wood reached him, his hands moving to his hips as he turned towards his companion for the oncoming voyage.

"'ello." He intoned, smiling as he tipped his hat. "Doug Sullivan. Pleasure's all mine, Ms. Cromwell."

An invitation to a voyage. Sometime after her AQUA Initiative invitation, Genny finds herself invited onto a trip. Someone she doesn't know too well, but heard of in passing; one John Sullivan . To her knowledge, he was a fellow Aqua Initiative member, and seeing Yuina Higashi . A certain melancholy came over Genny. That melancholy itself, had her sleep a lot lately.[break][break]

How long had it really been since she spoke with Yui? Ever since her short stay in the hospital, she's stayed far and away from her gang. Even further since the time in Petalburg, on the off routes. She'd taken time to get her own affairs in order. To focus on things that mattered. To take her vacation time seriously.[break][break]

She stares at her phone. She's about to send them a hello, but is jolted upwards when she's greeted by his voice. The hat tip is sweet, and good manners will keep her spirits higher. She pockets her phone, as she tries to curtsy herself.[break][break]

"Hello!" She smiles, before standing back upright, ten inches shorter than the man before her. "It's nice to finally meet you!" And it was! They hadn't interacted much at all. At best, passing ships. Which, reminds her...[break][break]

Genny yawns. Something she's done quite a lot lately. "I love this salty breeze. Just like home in Hau'oli."

- Invited out on a voyage, Genny doesn't know much about Doug! About time! She's tempted to text her friends, but is snapped out of it last second.[break]

"Likewise. I'd heard things 'bout'cha; never found the chance to say hello." He said as she yawned in his face, before snorting. "Oh. Guess it's kicked in already, huh?"

Right. That was a thing with Tapu Bulu, wasn't it?

"Unfortunately for ya, Charja-Cola went under after Zac Ramsay left." He said, letting her grapple with the death of an inside joke as he turned around hopped onto the ship, gesturing for her to follow.

"So... You're from Alola?" He asked curiously. "That's a pretty good fit for a Tapu."

"Huh?"[break][break]

Something kicked in already? Genevieve's hazel eyes inspected John quizzically, uncertainty plaguing her facial expression. She hadn't realized her own role yet. Though Charja-Cola? Was that some soda brand from before? The joke flies over head like a passerby Wingull.[break][break]

He hops onto the ship, and she follows suit, hopping aboard.[break][break]

"Yup! Technically I'm Galar-born, but my mom moved from Circhester when I was really young," she admits, one done with a little bittersweet edge to that date in Circhester. She missed him. Was he doing okay? She shakes her head. "I guess though! Bulu's been really quiet lately. He's usually at least trying to interact with me, but whenever he's out of the ball, he's lounging around, napping." It doesn't seem Genny's all too perturbed by that. The island spirit bull was important enough, and she didn't like to trouble him too much.[break][break]

As she followed behind, she pokes out to look over the ship's edge. "Where are we going, anyways?"

Her non-reaction made him feel older for even trying that joke. Truly relic from a bygone age.

"Sleepin's a favorite pastime o'theirs." He said while leaning his chin atop his palm, smile crooked. "First time I met it, t'was nappin' in the middle of a festival."

It had gotten pretty pissed when the fireworks woke it up, though. A cranky rampage made for a hell of a first impression.

As she peers over the ship's prow, he looks around. An Accelgor pokes its head over the hull, meeting his gaze and nodding before seemingly melting unto the shadowed side of the ship.

"We're goin' to Tapu Lele's Temple of Life." He said, facing towards her and away from land. Careful. "The only Tapu Temple remaining... that we know."

"That explains a lot, actually," she's laughing, knowing that Bulu can probably hear her. He's lazy, but sleep was more important. The effort it'd take to get out of the ball and bonk her head was greater than the bull spirit would allow, so he just slept. without so much as a shake to his Pokeball.[break][break]

Of course, as she looks about, she can't help but be intrigued by the idea of the spirits. Her first boyfriend, way back when, was super into them, as a lot of them had been. It's Doug's mention of the Tapu Lele's Temple, that has her swivel and turn to face him.[break][break]

"Oh?" She blinks quickly. "That... we know of?" Now there's a hole in her chest. A hole, she wonders quietly to herself, opened by the idea of them not having a home.[break][break]

"So there might be more out there?"[break][break]

Better to be on the safer side. Optimism keeps spirits up, infectious even. "Maybe I'll get some insight there too. Bulu might even talk to me." Now THAT got a shake from her belt, the Pokeball making a less-than-jovial, not-quite-so-violent shake.

- Genny seems to laugh at the idea of the island spirits being sleepy. She's needed that. When Doug mentions the only Tapu Temple they know of, she asks 'that we know of?'[break]
- Optimism set to high, she believes there might be more out there. Bulu shakes her ball from inside as she mentions she might get some insight. Bulu isn't pleased.
