Orion feels the heat before he sees the danger; he tenses, sending a Swampert from its pokeball.

"Careful," he whispers to Schism, who grumbles in response. Orion presses a finger to his lips and they creep forward through the trees toward the little garden in the forest.

Unfortunately, stealth isn't Swampert's strong suit.

Turtonator turns as the lumbering dual-type steps on a branch, and chaos erupts. Rapid spin helps the dragon narrowly avoid an avalanche of ice and snow from the Swampert; it retaliates with a burst of flamethrower that glances off the Swampert's damp hide. It's attempt to trap its shell fail as Schism builds up a hydro pump, the strong burst of water hitting the garden intruder head on and driving it back several feet.

Iron defense prolongs the fight, but as the earth quakes and Schism throws a rock at the Turtonator, the offender seems to take the hint. It abandons the garden to flee from Swampert's assault, and Orion holds up a hand to stop his Pokemon's pursuit.

THE PACHIRISU GROOMS ITSELF, leaving excess fur on the ground. these puffs of fur, shackled with static electricity, are soon to become well-guarded hiding spots for the berries it wants to pluck. currently, it has littered the whole plot with these furry, electrified balls because it plans on stealing the entirety of your upcoming harvest![break][break]

It's a relief to see the berry trees once again thriving in the absence of snow, but that relief is short-lived when Orion approaches his garden and notices little patches of hair strewn about. Upon bending over to pick one up, it shocks him, and he pulls his hand back in surprise.

Delphi emerges from her Pokeball with a yawn, seemingly unperturbed by the ranger's unsettled expression.

With the help of his Espeon, Orion tracks the little fluffballs to the bigger fluffball that had created them, currently grooming itself and looking mighty proud of its accomplishments.

"Oi!" Orion gets its attention, and it looks up from where it had been nibbling at its claws. "This is my garden, pal, you can't just stroll up and take whatever you want!"

It chitters at him; he can't understand, but judging by the snort from his Espeon, whatever it had said amused her.

They converse for a little bit, the ranger watching on in exasperation, before Delphi takes it upon herself to utilize her psychic powers in levitating a pokeball from Orion's pocket. He blinks at her, and she drops it above his hand for him to catch.

"Right. Uh, point taken, I guess?"

Shrugging, he tosses the ball at the apparently-willing critter.

Orion feels a little guilty as he approaches the garden; he's been neglecting it more often than not, lately, juggling two jobs and a disaster of a sleep schedule. The berry trees strangely still appear perfectly healthy from afar — perhaps confirming an earlier suspicion that he was no longer than sole caretaker of the little patch of land.[break][break]

A steady thumping sound draws his attention quick, and it's not long before he spots the culprit: a Skiddo![break][break]

"Hey!" His sharp tone seems to startle the goat, who offers a disgruntled bleat as if to reprimand the ranger for the jump scare. Orion isn't sympathetic; he knows that Skiddo don't need to eat the berries, so what did this little shit think it was doing? "Those aren't for you! Go on, shoo!"[break][break]

He flaps his hands at the Skiddo, but it seems utterly unimpressed until Orion begins to close the distance with a menacing gait. He wouldn't have actually harmed the wild creature, but it didn't need to know that.[break][break]

Checking on the trees, he finds them healthy and sits down beneath one to keep guard in case the little shit came back.

"Oi!" Orion's sharp shout of warning seems to startle the bat from its newfound perch, its massive maw gaping at him as it turns toward the sound. "Listen, I respect that you're not out here attacking my Pokemon, but those berry trees were expensive."[break][break]

He knows that the Pokemon likely has zero concept of monetary value, but it can surely detect the ire in his tone. Its stance becomes more aggressive, and the ranger lifts his hands defensively.[break][break]

"Chill out, I'm not looking for a fight."[break][break]

Instead, he rifles through his supplies to find his stash of common berries — leaving out the Pecha, which he'd found most of his own poison-types disliked.[break][break]

"You can have as many of these as I've got on hand, just don't eat those ones, OK?"[break][break]

He sets the berries down and backs off to give the Golbat space.
