His hands ran through the fur of his houndoom, the creature had insisted on being let out to play in the ice and snow that melted at its presence. The warmth of its body enough to make the now chillier than ever cave bearable. The dog pokemon seemed to be tracking something in the area though he couldn't make sense of what. They were just doing another check in with someone in the are when it ran off.

Evan had to take a more assertive hold of the pokemon as they made their way into the cave, his fox pokemon trailing beside him to keep the area from freezing them. As much as he liked exciting weather this was starting to get to be a bit much.

A shake of his head drew him back to the terrain in front of him. He had to pay attention, the last thing they needed to do was get stuck in the cave for nothing.

Neither he nor his pokemon seem terribly inclined to acknowledge the pokemon as they walk past it, navigating the cold of the cave. It waves nonetheless and they wave back more out of politeness than anything. Evan has nothing against the pokemon he just has no real interest- and neither does Barghest who is still on the trail of something.

The Delphox seems to watch it wearily, maybe because it keeps its eyes on her longer than she expects and it unnerves her a little. A pat on her shoulder seems to settle her though and she pays more attention to him than it.

The wild pokemon seems to chuckle as they walk away, and Evan smiles back at it.

they hear it before it hits, the rocks cascading from above them down to them. His fox responds before he needs to say anything, her psychic creating a would be barrier between them and the attack. His houndoom buckles down, growling at the threat but he hold up a hand to stop the pokemon, looking for the source before they make a move. He recognizes the cry from afar, the mudkip line is rather popular in the region as one of their signature pokemon.

"Mai, be a doll." the energies around her swirl and focus, seeking the target for a future sight attack, the pokemon is exactly the opposite of what he expected to find in the cave and though they can handle it fine he'd rather make quick work of it. The attack connects from afar and they approach the pokemon with caution, prepared to return the next strike if they must.

Instead Evan finds it scared and hiding behind a rock, perhaps it was just fearful of what came this way. They are strangers to the cave after all, and perhaps it is too. Neither party is really where they belong. Evan retrieves a berry from his bag, something of a peace offering and though the pokemon is hesitant at first with patience he finds it is accepted.

The pokeball is next, because perhaps what shelter he cam offer it at the stray will prove better than this cave.
