there is something about his nonchalance that strikes him. he had underestimated milo. somewhere in the boy's amber eyes, there rested some discernable piece of tragedy. of depravity. some corrupting trauma; elijah knows it well.

and he laments milo's cracked path with sucked breath. and he laments that he is leading him further.

"are you staying with anyone then?" elijah says. "it can get lonely here- or maybe being lonely is a blessing." this time, he keeps his eyes on milo, seeking reaction.

his gogoat alerts him to their four-legged intruders with devilish bleating. without breaking conversation, he points at the yamper, his fist raising two fingers like horns.

the gogoat races forth, its muscular legs driving it horns first. the yamper leaps, but the gogoat is no wild, clumsy beast. hooves clap against the steel tiling as it wrestles the dog to the floor with its horns. the shinx sparks, ready to contest the other as elijah casts a ball.

The gaunt gold of his glance reaches Elijah first; his whole face becomes like his eyes. A numbing illusion of inevitability, of grief. It assembles the tragedy piece by piece.

This is still out of step for him, but he's been wandering off the usual path already; can feel it beginning to tilt just ahead. He can only hint at the unfamiliar road it will take him down.

There is nothing to be read until he feels the query frame itself between them and Elijah meets his eyes, hunting. His voice is the same, words with an absence of color.

"No. Not lately." Milo admits. "Move too often." Shielded poorly by a tense shoulder, unpracticed apathy. He salts his tone with, "Misery loves company, doesn't it?"

Milo nods at his expectant leafeon and like the turn of the season, leaves charge the air, dagger-sharp and writhing. The razor leaf finds its mark in a violent cascade of green. He paralells Eljiah and cracks an empty capsule open against the shinx.
