The attempt, while meaning to level things out, was fudged when the Endeavor seemingly did… nothing… to the Greninja. It took him a split-second to realize that this was going to be an uphill battle.[break][break]

Alexei knew that his Hawlucha was teetering and very possibly on its last legs.[break][break]

“Square up! Flying Press!” he called out, allowing the Hawlucha to back away, staggering in pain, before taking another leap into the sky—but of course there was something else tied to this. Hopefully, he could be able to catch the other in what he hoped was a surprise change.[break][break]

Whether or not the Flying Press would connect, the moment the Hawlucha made impact, he called out, “Drain Punch!” and hoped for the best.[break][break]

Was it risky? Oh, definitely.[break][break]

Was it going to work? He had no idea. He hoped it would. He desperately hoped he could level the field with the next attempt…[break][break]

Hawlucha takes damage from the Shadow Sneak + Hail! Hawlucha then backs away before charging forward for another Flying Press attempt at low altitude.[break][break]

Upon impact, Hawlucha chains into a Drain Punch attack!

The hail finally begins to fade, good timing too. Despite Bubble's clones still existing, it seemed she was deemed that hiding among them was a less-effective way to combat this fighting bird. As Flying Press was called out, Ruby could only imagine it was a fighting type move. With that in mind, Ruby stayed silent and trusted her Pokemon to know what to do best. There was a reason she tried not to always call out the exact move, because then her opponent could react or respond to it before it even hit.

Bubbles once again refused to move, staring at the Hawlucha as it soared into the air and attempted to land not one, but two attacks onto them. Unfortunately, Bubbles' current ghostly nature seemed to completely negate both fighting attacks. The blows just seemed to glance off of them entirely, with Bubbles still staring, blinking in response to the combo attack.

"Now!" Ruby called out once more, grinning ear to ear. "Hit them again!" Bubbles' expression seemingly formed a simple smirk as once again the Greninja's shadow spread towards them and attempted to strike at them from behind, using Shadow Sneak once more. Perhaps another attack might deal more damage, but the protection of the Ghost Typing against the Hawlucha was proving invaluable.

notes: Hail fades. Bubbles' Ghost-Typing via Protean is immune to the fighting type moves and responds with Shadow Sneak once more.

Shit, shit, shit, shit, shit! he thought frantically as the Hawlucha let out a cry of shock, both attacks not working. Crap, crap, crap, crap! He continued in the back of his mind. Arceus, I’ll have to fix this… he went on, the look on his face becoming a deep one full of thought.[break][break]

The Hawlucha looked over to his human companion, awaiting further orders, but was instead met with a burst of red light that recalled him back into the safety of its Pokéball. “I should really fix his move set,” he admitted a few moments later. “I concede.”[break][break]

Shuffling around in the pockets of his jacket, he found the flap he was looking for. Instead of tossing it across the area, he walked over to where Ruby stood.[break][break]

“Hold out your hand.”[break][break]

Whether or not she would do so, something small and sparkling would drop into her hands, a little thing of beauty.[break][break]

A jet stream, but if tilted a certain way, it was actually a bird in flight.[break][break]

“Congratulations on winning the Skyrider Badge,” he added with a grin before ruffling her hair.

And just like that, it was over. She didn't even finish the fight with the Hawlucha before Alexei seemed to call it. If his Pokemon couldn't even hurt Bubbles, it made sense. However, it took her a few seconds to realize what was going on. She blinked, holding out her hand as the little badge suddenly fell into her hands.

Ruby was a bit in shock, before suddenly smiling incredibly widely. She had been prepared for the fight and had been hoping to win but actually doing so felt incredible. Holding the feather-like badge tightly in her hand, Ruby immediately wrapped her arms around him in a tight hug, laughing softly as she looked up at him. "Thank you! I promise, just you watch and see! I'll become the champion in no time!"

Bubbles had walked over towards her trainer, standing there with a soft expression on their face. Ruby broke the hug after a few seconds, recalling Bubbles to her Pokeball. "Might take a while, but I'll get there!"
