The rain sloughed over the Taxi, creating an odd light in contrast to the terribly dark ocean below. Frankly, it was terrifying, and Rex wondered for the hundredth time why he had ever done this. It made sense at the time, those who couldn't take the time to wait to get to Slateport City typically flew there and, with an opening, here he was, on top of an Aerodactyl, carrying a giant Taxi over the ocean. Like that wasn't enough pressure, he was distinctly aware he was carrying someone important, very important, and like a young hound, he wanted to do anything to impress him. If he did, that meant he wouldn't have to do boring jobs like this, with rainwater soaking into his clothes despite his raincoat.

A crackling lightning bolt clawed its way dangerously close, and One slanted downwards, way to close to churning waves for his comfort. Again, he reached down to pat a Pokeball on his hip, a little Buizel he was gifted for a job well done. It was not a happy day when he was considering how not to drown, but it made him feel safe...right! The passenger!

"S-shit! Sorry, sorry!" He babbled, leaning over One's side and clasping its rocky head in a bid to stay on. "One here's tough, but I never thought we'd be carrying someone like you! I mean, can't get worse than this!"

"well this certainly wasn't what i expected." cadis had called for the aid of a rocket to escort him. he didn't expect the rocket to be a low-class grunt, it was surprising to say the least. cadis wasn't too bothered by his means of transportation, but he would've preferred the ride to be a little less bumpy. "funny enough this is a great opportunity to meet the new faces, or should i say face, of rocket."

cadis couldn't exactly recall if he were apart of the new year's festival that was said to be quite the bloodshed, so he'd ask. "were you a witness to what occurred during the new year's festival?" he'd rephrase the question, "were you apart of the team that fought against the ultra beast?" cadis questioned.

A smile drifted across Rex's face, "Well then, you'll see my face better after this!" He chuckled, pushing his coat's hood higher over his head, "I'm Rex, I'm just muscle for you to throw at our enemies, we love it!" As the words left his mouth, One shrieked in agreement, somehow managing to keep the Taxi straight as it bid forward even faster. "This stuff, well, no offense, but carrying you is way more pressure than just beating something!"

A second of silence followed the leader's question, and Rex suddenly blurted out rapid words, pitched high and nervous, "Heh! W-well, you're not going to believe it, but I wasn't at the festival!" That was true, he was busy in the higher district as he tried legit sale of Pokemon. "But I would have loved to be there!" He lied. Whatever the monster was, if the best couldn't beat it without casualties, what hope did he have? He was tough against people, not monsters!

"...What are those monsters anyway, ah, more like, what are we going to do to them, I guess...don't think anyone's hearing us out here, boss." There was genuine curiosity present in his voice, and he added the last part worryingly, suddenly frightened that he had overstepped against a superior strength.

And below, the waves crashed, oblivious to the mundane above it.

he'd come to lean forward and tightly wrap his arm around the grunt's stomah. leaning in, cadis would place his ear upon rex's back. he'd then listen to his heart, and said, "you haven't earned your place to know yet." fixing his posture and casually smiling, "you're still too green." a chuckle escaped him as he teased the grunt. "you'll learn in time, you just need to earn your place." of course he'd already done so, but cadis wanted to simply test him. to see how he would move forward.

"i suppose i can tell you this much: they're creatures from another dimension." chaotic and uncontrollable, they've continuously come to be a pain in the league's side. "in a sense they're something that have been a bit advantageous for us. considering rocket's successful capture of one recently they needed to figure out what their next plan was, which would soon be discussed within an upcoming meeting. "you'll find out soon enough. we'll be moving to our new home very soon, so it's best you pack and prepare for what's to come."

Living as a Rocket, Rex liked to imagine he was great with danger, but the moment that arm went around him, that was it, he was trapped...and wasn't sure if he disliked it. "Is that so?" He drawled, making no move to break out of the contact, "I can't keep you waiting long then, you gotta have someone like me around." To have the treat of more knowledge dangled in front of him brought confidence bubbling into his voice, all but certain that if he was fighting for this "place" with other grunts like him, then there was no doubt that he was the better.

So, like aliens? Thoughts started to press in on his mind, but he stayed obediently quiet until the leader stopped talking. "Got it. I'll be there for sure, boss." A gleam entered his eyes and the jagged smile he usually wore made its triumphant return, "One, speed up, we're going home."

The water only churned harder as One tried to rise into the air, droplets tickling its claws as it screamed forward, Rex whooping in newfound excitement. No longer was he worried about the waters, of fins visible just beneath the surface, they'd be going home soon enough.

"And what do I gotta do to earn my place?" Rex returned to the one blockade he had to all this excitement, words earnest, "You know I'll do anything, I got nothing to lose except what's here." For the first time since the flight started, he looked back, the smile spread wide like a mask.

"your enthusiasm is a great start, you remind me of priam." priam had already shown promise. the potential to become the next boss, if he could excel a bit in critical thinking then he'd definitely, without a doubt, become the next boss of team rocket. "i definitely want to partner you up with priam. he's a great person to follow. he was like you, new, fresh, and strong." rex had great potential, as long as he stuck to his truth.

"though, i am curious, why did you join rocket?" he inquired with curiosity.

"Priam?" The name sounded familiar enough, though he didn't know the guy, "You're good at praise...but I'm not complaining!" His shoulders shook with a brief laugh, "He better be as good as you say!" Disappointment was not an emotion he ever wanted to feel, so all this hype better not be for a nobody.

Here was the question on his joining, a total boss question. It was coming one way or another. "Well, kid me wanted to be a punk, and old me kinda wanted to live, but didn't really want to stop what I was doing. I like fights, if that wasn't obvious...but I really don't want to be hurt, or die." A free hand pointed towards his boss, "And you're my ticket to life, I won't be beat to death in some alley as I'm with you guys!" The hand returned to his mount's head, "So that's it, I'm reliving my best years cause I'm alive because of you...so you can count on me."

"is that so..." rocket was a ticket for many to escape life or find excitement within it. cadis could only smile at their foolish ideals. "you're a strange one, rex. that's exactly what makes you rocket potential." he was no different from priam that's for sure. "i'll have to make sure you learn well as you move with rocket. if you wish to find more excitement in this life, and make sure to live long and forever, you'll do best to follow me." it was his job as the rocket boss to ensure they live up to their potentials and his expectations.

"if that is your dream, then as your leader i will make sure that we see it to fulfillment." a hand would come to place itself upon his shoulder, "and if the grim reaper himself, death, is your enemy. then he is rockets enemy for as long as you live. your life will be surely put to great use, all in exchange for your services."
