He stood at the edge of what he presumed to be a former lake inside the cave. The water had all drained at this point, however, and he couldn't tell how long it had been since then. As her trainer stared at the expanse of untouched ground ahead of them while snacking on a granola bar, the Mawile standing beside him eventually decided to hop down off the ledge before too long.

A little startled by the action, Beck finished chewing the granola bar in his mouth before expressing his caution. "Dwen, do be careful. Have you considered how you're gonna climb back up if you need to?"

The Mawile, however, seemed to not care. She danced around on the slightly moist ground, leaving dainty footprints in her wake and trying her best to keep her large maw from leaning backward too much and leaving prints of its own. She'd been doing well with that as well... until a wild pokémon suddenly approached!

It burst out from the ground in a spin, apparently angered after being poked by Dwen's massive jaw. In the split-second that Beckett and his Mawile realized what it was, however, it exploded. The immediate area was engulfed in fire and, had he not ducked beneath the rock in front of him, Beck would have been burned by it.

The ground trembled and the cave shook, pieces of rock falling from the ceiling all over the place as the flames subsided. When it was all over, Beck arose from his cover quickly to find Dwen unharmed. A few scuffs here and there, of course, and a little smoky cough. But perfectly fine. He breathed a sigh of relief and looked for the Ferroseed. When he didn't find it, he climbed down to cautiously join Dwen in the drained lake bed below.

"See what I mean about being careful?"

After their little incident with the Ferroseed, it wasn't long after that they stumbled across a Larvitar digging around in the wet dirt for some mushrooms. Seeing as how it didn't seem to mind their presence there, Beck and Dwen were sure to give it a proper amount of space as they walked past it. When Dwen found mushrooms and made a bee-line for them, however... well, things got bad.

"Dwen, watch out!"

Beck exclaimed when he saw the Larvitar angrily charging towards her to compete for the food. When it attempted to leap onto her large black jaw with a Crunch, though, things would prove to backfire horribly for it. It was quickly snapped up by a far more powerful Crunch by the large set of jaws. The Mawile, in the meantime, seemed entirely oblivious as she snacked on the mushrooms. Her other, much ferocious, head shook the Larvitar around like a rag doll before tossing it.

Beckett simply watched, mouth agape.

It wasn't long after the incident with the Larvitar that the ground beneath Dwen's feet suddenly began to tremble. Before Beck could warn her, a Gabite exploded out from below and landed a Dual Chop on her massive jaws. After the attack proved to be ineffective, however, she was quick to retaliate by grabbing it by one of its ear-tubes and yanking it repeatedly. Her Play Rough was so painful that it caused it to yelp and screech as it struggled.

"Woah! Don't you think it's had enough, girl?" Beck nervously laughed, closing the distance between himself and the slightly hilarious scene as he drew out an empty pokéball. "Whaddya say, pal? Looking for an out? Be my partner and I'll teach you to be as strong as Dwen here!" He grinned, holding out his pokéball to the Gabite that was still very much in the Mawile's chokehold. Seeing no other escape, it eventually conceded and touched the ball with one of its claws.

Beck dropped it after it absorbed the creature. Now he would wait and see whether it would escape and run away... or whether it would accept his offer instead!
