kat was still missing it. a key part to her masterfully crafted battle plan. or, well, a tactic she imagined that'd work well and wanted to test. it required a new partner - and relied on another she'd known for many years, hatenna.

but who knew if she'd ever find the pokemon she was looking for.

the rocket grunt traveled all the way to pacifidlog town for this sole reason. to find the perfect partner to fit into her plan - and then she might feel ready to challenge a gym leader. it wasn't confirmed, of course, but she certainly preferred to go down this route rather than attempt her first challenge without an ounce of preparation. kirlia walked by katherine's side as they paced near the water, their eyes shifting every now and then.

it's not who katherine was looking for.

in fact, seismitoad wasn't even the the type of pokemon kat was searching for. but she was far from giving up, of course. as the water-type paces peacefully within the shallow water, kat allows her gaze to linger upon it for a few seconds - but none more. instead, she urges herself to continue with her search and avoid the many distractions the wildlife seemed to offer. she could return to the city to see more of it leisurely with her new partner - but only then. "come on, kirlia. let's keep going." the emotion pokemon nodded once, picking up its pace to keep up with his trainer.

it appears as if the pokemon katherine was looking for in particular remained hard to find. the more wild pokemon she came across, the more she realized that luck wasn't playing to her side. not today at least. and as she walked past the seismitoad, all she could hope is that there will be a change. for a coin to flip and grace her with the fortune she's been wanting-- no, craving.

kirlia was not nearly as bothered by luck or fortune. fate, although very much real, bothered few pokemons if at all. they were merely happy to soak in the sun. a sigh parted through the lips of the psychic type's trainer upon noticing a swarm of woobats fly above them, kat rolling her eyes some. was the universe laughing at her? maybe.

katherine and kirlia went on and on, traveling on the wooden bridges near the water as the swarm of woobats flied above them. the water splashed at the edge of the bridge, emitting a soft sound that kat seemed to enjoy. with the various pokemon nearby who spoke to each other - it was nice to hear something that she could actually recognize. the last members of the woobats' pack seemed to pass by them, now revealing what it was that they escaped from. a darkloak. it was not the pokemon kat was searching, no, but... it shared the same type.

"kirlia, do you see him?" kat pointed high at the skies, directing the attention of the psychic type to the pokemon in question. "use psychic on him. drag him down to us." a nod, and the dancing pokemon already began to perform for their trainer. a blue outline surrounded the dragon as an invisible rush of power forced him to crash against the water. kirlia remained neutral, but kat seemed pleased with the result. the dragon, however? not so much. it angered him that his flight has been disturbed, and light charged at its maw as a beam prepared to launch.

"it's angry, kirlia. how about you teleport us away?" and as a pink light flickers and the pair reappears elsewhere, the beam is shot. it missed them narrowly. "use psychic again, kirlia. drag him across the water to us!" once more, the wild pokemon is forced to act against its will. he is dragged as kat retrieved a pokeball to throw at him, securing the capture.
