what is there not to like about pink-haired mages who are half-humming and half-singing to themselves while waiting for a new spawn to appear?

ah. of course. the idea of sharing the farming area. not many people enjoyed it. katherine herself wasn't all too pleased with it, unless it involved players she knew or those capable of farming faster than her. .. and truth to be told, there weren't many of either of those types. "come on now, i have a boss to fight. i can't sit here all day." as if calling for a mob to spawn would help.

noah sneaks online to level a little bit more. he feels bad, lagging behind kyle lopez as he always did in games like this. it's not as if he found the game boring.

it's just better when played with someone else.

although he expects to level solo, he finds that a half-humming, half-singing pink-haired mage awaits the spawns in his favourite spot in fontaine. it's true. what is there not to like about her?

he hopes she has AoE spells to help clear the mobs faster, and so he sends her a party invite after a moment opening and closing menus.

"hey! wanna join up for a bit? you can totally say no, though." noah says, unsheathing his falchion. "just wanna grind out a level."

despite what katherine imagined herself that this farming session will be like, it seemed as if she had a surprise waiting for her.

"growfer..?" a quirked brow rises as kat reads his nickname out loud. she turns afterwards, a full spin is done to face the warrior in question. "ah. there you are. we... can team up, sure. you don't look like you'd need a lot of carrying," the pinkette admits, pressing yes to accept his party request.

not another moment passes before the clamperl arrives, and katherine allows her wand to twirl and spin within her hand, charging some of her artificial mana. the wind seems distorted for a brief moment, as if something wrong is happening-- and then sharp arcs of wind are directed at the newly-spawned mob.

with the party invite accepted, noah gets into position. he can't afford to look stupid in front of a stranger. there is trust he must build within the span of seconds.

trust that he is a capable gamer— when he clearly is not. he moves forth, keeping the clamperl at bay. it continues to spam defensive skills to stubbornly guard its treasures.

"easy!" noah calls back. slicing his falchion across, a FREEZE-DRY finishes the clamperl off in a startling display of icy pixels.

their loot drops in delicious excess.

"are you playing with any friends or do you just play this game solo?" noah asks. his hand idly plays with his avatar's hair, fingers curling a strand in quiet yearning.

maybe she never paid enough attention to poochyenas. katherine certainly didn't raise one, so the options to study them were limited. either way, the clamperl was easy for the pair to manage, if only because there was one mob to focus, and not several. the use of the FREEZE-DRY spell, surprises kat, her usual neutral expression replaced with one that suggests that she had been impressed.

"solo mostly. but i've made a friend or two on the game. you kind of have to, with how often we share camps. you know?" she offers a shrug, as if to excuse the fact that those friends were made on a game. it was a bit weird. or at least it felt that way, to her. a starmie draws her attention as it begins to spin, casting SPOTLIGHT on itself. "look at that. it's practically asking us to kill it."

once more, the wand of the mage is twirled and spun as the chilly air almost freezes. three sharp arcs of icy wind are directed towards the star pokemon, each carrying the intent of slashing through the mob. "..i think i just hit my goal for unicorn horns, dude. are you farming for the boss-fight too?"

"naw, i don't think i have enough brainpower to handle the rotations." noah says in between autos. the health bar above the starmie eventually widdles down to nothing.

and like the SPOTLIGHT it spawned with, the pixels burst bright before dissipating.

"i'm just leveling to catch up to my boyfriend." noah says. he picks the loot up, and their respective unicorn horns fall into their inventories. "if you're just playing alone, are you doing it just to relax? to get to the top? seems like only a few players can tackle bosses so far."

with reports of data breaches entering the news, noah wonders just how long this game will last. still, such worries do not halt the claws aiming for the top.

just as taking that damn honedge out of the stone sounded fun, but you know. something aren't meant to be. or happen. the mage accepted this by now, especially due to her experiences on the game. "a lot of fun actually. rubbing it in people's faces and everything... is there any other reason to play video games?" well, having fun for starters. but that thought hasn't crossed katherine's mind. "there are a couple of players i'd appreciate beating, i guess. so i have more incentive to try hard than most, you know?"
