The Safari Zone in the springtime was teeming with life. This was Atlan's first venture into the area since immigrating to Hoenn, of course, but already he doubted any of the other seasons compared to this one in sheer beauty. Wild flowers swayed in the gentle breeze as he walked down a faded dirt path that cut straight through a forested area. The air was rich with the scent of pine and fresh water from a river nearby. And Brigid, his loyal Aron, lead the way... if only to make time to stop and sniff every boulder she could find before he caught up.

"Shame we haven't done this sooner," The young lad sighed with a relaxed smile, stuffing his hands into the pockets of his brown jacket. He hadn't exactly come dressed for hiking or anything of the sort. In fact, he'd come here straight after finishing up work at the Loveless Detective Agency. The only thing different was how loose he carried his otherwise dashing tie around his neck.

A floating teacup was certainly a strange sight in the middle of the forest. Atlan had been perfectly content at admiring it from afar. Unfortunately, the second it caught sight of Brigid, it attacked. Diving behind a tree as the Shadow Ball hit the ground where Brigid used to stand and burst, he sighed. Well, he hadn't planned on catching a Sinistea today. But it would make a valuable partner.

"Brigid, Rock Tomb!" He commanded, prompting the little Aron to summon forth a grouping of rocks that were cast upon the tiny teacup without hesitation. Buried within this mound of rocks, one could hardly imagine such a small object coming out of it unscathed. But, before long, it did. Shimmying itself out of a small crevice, the now cracked Sinistea was faint.

And, after seeing this for himself, Atlas didn't waste a moment reaching for an empty ball and casting it.

There were a lot of pokémon outside of Holon that Atlan had never seen in person before. After a childhood spent watching his favorite TV shows about detectives, first responders, and other facets of law and order, however, only a handful of pokémon came to mind. The Growlithe that served beside many police officers, for one. The Chansey that accompanied paramedics, too. And, of course, the Squirtle that were often assigned as partners to firefighters. It was the latter that he had soon come across during his first safari visit.

He found it battling with another wild (and meaner-looking) Squirtle. When it was smacked down with a Rapid Spin and the larger Squirtle dove into a river nearby afterwards, Atlan approached the beaten one to check on its injuries alongside Brigid. "Geez... you look worse than the dance floor during polka on a rainy night." He lamented, digging past his jacket to reach an empty ball afterwards. Holding it up and inches away from the Squirtle's forehead, he next asked: "Wanna come with me, pal? Be my partner?"

Forests were usually abundant with all manner of Grass and Bug-type pokémon to see, but the forest here in the Safari Zone seemed different. There were several different types of small animals and bugs, of course. Dragonflies and mice, for example. But as he continued traveling through the wild area alongside his Aron, he only really recognized the buds of Oddish sticking out of the ground every so often. And the occasional skittish Grubbin perched on a tree's bark.

It was the former, however, that approached him first. Curious and rather playful, the Oddish had been sauntering through the bushes before having a small interaction with Brigid and greeting Atlan with a smile. Not familiar with Grass-type pokémon at all, the young man decided against capturing it. It seemed so content out in the wild, anyway. Why ruin that?

They came upon a swamp in the middle of the forest, surrounded by cattails and common reeds and teeming with insect life of all sorts. Atlan didn't bother to stray off the dirt path and come closer to it, however. He didn't want to get mud on his designer shoes, after all.

But he did spot a pokémon 'hiding' in the aforementioned mud: a Barboach. It was lying in wait for any prey that got close enough but, quite frankly, Atlan thought it was doing a pretty shit job of disguising itself in the mud. The grey of its flesh and its blue whiskers stuck out.

Regardless, he moved on and let it be.

"Well, aren't you the brave little explorer?" Atlan coos, scratching the Ralts beneath the chin as it happily cheers. Brigid, in the meantime, rolls her eyes and saunters past them to sniff at the boulders nearby. Her trainer regards the action with an amused smile. She was always so moody, and loved to pretend she was impervious to any feeling such as jealousy.

As cute as the Ralts was, however, it was clear she was too young to leave the forest just yet. That would become apparent when a Kirlia called at her from afar. Atlan looked up to see the older pokémon surrounded by a small group of other Ralts. She was either babysitter... older sister... or both? Before long, the Ralts he had the pleasure of meeting would scurry along to rejoin the group she had been a part of before. And, shortly afterwards, Atlan and Brigid would move along as well.

Holon certainly didn't have any Grubbin.

Now that Atlan had the chance to get up and close with one, he was entirely fascinated by them. One of the brave little insects had perched itself against the bark of a tree and, unlike the others, remained put as the trainer cautiously approached. Simply wanting a closer look and nothing more, Atlan was sure not to make any sudden movements and even went as far as holding his empty hands up.

SNAP.

... Shit.

He'd stepped on a branch and, apparently, that had been enough to set it off. The bug leapt off the tree and attempt to bite Atlan's arm with its pincers as he stumbled backwards. Even as he ran away, with Brigid quickly in tow, the aggressive little bugger continued the chase for a few minutes. By the end of it, Atlan was in an entirely different area of the safari zone.

Running for his life from the Grubbin, in the end, resulted favorably for him. He slowed to a stop when he came across a small pond... and an oddly coloured Ralts peering at its own reflection. Is this... how they usually look in Hoenn? He wondered, imagining it as some sort of variant but seeing no other distinguishing features besides its color.

Before he knew it, Brigid was scsmpering over to greet the Ralts. At least, Atlan initially thought so. And so did the Ralts, before the Aron passed her completely in favor of a pond rock right past her. Regardless, the act brought the trainer to her attention and she looked up at him... before immediately dissolving into sobs. Confused, Atlan sauntered forward and... picked her up? In an effort to comfort her, he patted her back like a baby as she cried against her shoulder.

"Uhh... are you alright? Are you lost... or something?" He audibly wondered, hoping to have Brigid bridge the communication gap a little but seeing that she was entirely invested in eating the pond rock instead. With a sigh, his blue eyes shifted back to the Ralts he was holding against his shoulder like a baby. "Wanna come with us until we find what you're looking for?"
